I absolutely love studying at The Barrow Group. I am in my third year studying here (now online of course). I love the positive teaching method. I love feeling encouraged and as if what I do has value. As we grow in our studies, we are encouraged to evaluate our own work. For whatever reason, I find this the most challenging. The Barrow Group focuses on truth, my truth, at least that is my take away. Overall, there is such a spirit of support and encouragement, and that is what I need and what keeps me coming back.

Best acting Ive EVER seen on a New York stage. Period.Barrow teaches acting that is so real that, as an audience, it feels less like watching a play, and more like being a fly on the wall, eavesdropping on someone elses life.I took my first class over 5 years ago and never looked elsewhere since. Barrow Group is my artistic home, and I cant thank them enough for the life altering experiences Ive had since joining this wonderful, supportive community.

An extraordinary theatre company and school. I had studied for many years with some of the best and most highly regarded teachers in the acting community but it wasnt until I found the Barrow Group that I felt I became a good actor. Seth Barrish has created an astoundingly simple approach to the work that makes acting fun again. And truthful and real. He and his co-artistic director Lee Brock have created a wonderful home for some of the most passionate and talented artists I have ever had the privilege of working with. I couldnt recommend them more highly!

The Barrow Group has pushed me creatively, while always being a warm, welcoming and positive place to be. The tools and philosophy they teach here have been invaluable to me as an actor, and I have learned to be okay with being myself. Not only that, but Ive made wonderful friends and met great people that Ive collaborated with on projects outside of class. Love it!

The barrow group theatre company is an excellent forum for kids to develop their social skills and interact with like minded individuals. The teachers, the staff go above and beyond for the students to help them and their parents. Will be forever gratefu for the opportunities you have given my twins Emily & James. Thank you!

I wished RON did not give the same direction and feedback every time to everyone. It felt cookie cutter and automated to me.Also, his answer to most things are thats just how the business is!!. He says it so much it appears as if hes trying to impress or convince us all that he has more experience than anybody else or is a big part of show business.no i cant lower the blinding lights thats hurting your eyes, because thats just how the business is.No man, YOU chose not to lower them, not the business. Own it and dont blame the business.Bearing discomfort if nothing can be done is one thing. However, having someone bear discomfort when you can stop it is sadistic and cruel man.Outside of that, class was fun.

A very Off-Off-Broadway theatre that shows a range of interesting productions. Clean, accessible, welcoming space on the small side. We saw a play (comedy) by the Yangtze Repertory Theatre.

I am starting my fourth class tomorrow. Obviously, I love this place. The teachers are friendly, down to earth, and REALLY know their stuff. It really is amazing, the learning curve, and how much you do learn during just one class, let alone three. The teaching methods are so great, it makes you almost feel like what you have learned should have been common sense. Ive attended one of their shows (so far), and it was really an inspiring experience, with just superb acting. Whenever people ask me about my experience here, I cannot recommend The Barrow Group enough.

Tbg is my home. I found my voice as an actor and writer here. I synthesized a way to take all my other training and experience and channel that into natural, believable and spontaneous action that is effortless and fun. My best actor friends were found here in this supportive and accepting environment.

I cannot say enough great things about The Barrow Group. The Apprenticeship program with Seth Barrish and Lee Brock offered practical experience and expert study under wonderful, supportive, attentive teachers. My experience in New York City has been enriched by The Barrow Group classes and programming. I am so grateful!

Took one on one classes and teacher was very unorganized and impossible to get in contact with to schedule our one on ones and always seemed like his mind was somewhere else. I got the impression that he didnt care to be there or care about the fact that I was paying good money to be there and learn. Would not ever recommend.Update: The school reached out and apologized for the experience and offered 2 complimentary sessions with a coach of my choosing. I chose Shannon and was thrilled with my choice and would recommend her to anyone.

The absolute best instruction Ive ever received. Where other studios made my performance aesthetic predictable and calculated, TBG taught me to avoid heavy-handedness that just distracts from the story. I will be forever grateful for this community of mentors!

The Barrow Group has superb acting training with techniques and tools that are approachable and fun. But what makes TBG stand out for me is the community it has built. In the sometimes cutthroat world of the entertainment industry, TBG has a community of supportive actors, writers, teachers and directors who not only encourage you to succeed, but also help you get there.

Hello! I live in WV , have never been to a theater production. Im texting to try to donate a monk stole , mink hat , skins , and a mink cape that belonged to my grandmother . It was the thing back in the 50s . Want nothing to do with them . Cant sell them. Thought maybe a theater group could use them for a period theater production. (Mink stole, not monk stole) will gladly donate .

Ive been acting since childhood but I never took any formal acting classes. I searched the web extensively before finding this place and choosing to take a beginners class. I was a little intimidated at first, this being my first acting class and all, but within minutes of being in class my nerves disappeared. The Barrow Group Theater is relatively easy to find. It is a six story building made up of multiple acting studios and equipped with useful props. The elevators are a little funky in that they take really weird routes and stop on every floor despite the fact that nobody has pressed each floors button. But I cant really complain since it gave all of the people in the elevators something to laugh and talk about. The teachers at TBG are really helpful and are all very experienced in their fields. Youre in good hands here at TBG because everyone supports each other and by the end of your classes you do bond with your fellow classmates and create connections with these people as well as your teacher(s). All in all I couldnt have asked for a better first time experience in an acting class. I recommend them highly no matter what your level of experience or your age as my class was filled with people from ages 19-50.

As an actor that got out of a professional BFA training program the Barrow Group was unbelievably refreshing. The simplicity and ease that they teach is incredible and has restored a love for acting that was lost for me in the rigors of acting in NYC.

My experience at the Barrow Group has truly helped me not to give up as an actor. After moving to NYC in 2009, my very talented friend recommended that I take classes at The Barrow Group. I trusted his recommendation because he was very knowledgable about the class options in the city. I am so thankful that I found the Barrow Group!! I really missed my theatre community from Graduate School and the Barrow Group became my NYC home base. I have taken four classes with Lee Brock and I have learned so much from her. She helped me go back to the beginning...back to those years before all of the training...Lee helped me go back to the Story. She helped me to focus on what truly matters...telling the story! The teaching style of the Barrow Group is extremely accessible to actors. You can get a feel for the teachings style by reading Seth Barrishs book An Actors Companion: 99 Bit of Craft. It is so wonderful!!-Brandy

Im not one for writing reviews normally but i had to say something about this life changing school. I had given up as an actor when i came to find TBG and was gently encouraged by a very good friend to give the school a try. I joined as an apprentice and have never looked back. I now have a legit agent and im freelancing with Abrams for commercial and vo work. TBG takes you back to the way acting should be. The basics, the play the fun and exploration that comes when you let go and truly give in to the natural spontaneity and impulse that is innately who we are at our core as actors. TBG feels like a home and a safe place to explore and play :)
