Good movie theater and comfortable seats; however, a bit pricey. Taking a family out will cost you. Its good to go there and then out to eat in the shopping center.

This movie house is located inside the mall and was very nice and huge inside. It was newly built, and the place was very tidy and comfortable. The chairs were the best! It was super cozy! It was definitely our new favorite cinema in town! We will be watching our favorites here! And dont forget to have your popcorn and fries first!

It was very nice to find such a cinema. It shows old films and new ones just from European festivals. I watched the movie “the Lighthouse” there on the premiere and I really liked the quality of the picture and sound. For festival cinema this is very important. Excellent cinema - I recommend to all lovers of good cinema

When all of the big chain movie theaters have let you down, look no further than Angelica Film. Easy to get to and their popcorn is incredible. The lineup process is a bit obnoxious but it’s kind of a relic of the past which everyone tolerates.

I love movies and I’ve been to a lot of theaters in NYC. The Angelica has a lot of things going for it: a cafe with lots of interesting food and drink options, a unique lineup of films, reserved seating, proximity to subway stations and popular restaurants. However, there are a few things they could improve: the decor of the cafe and lobby (it’s not that big of a deal but it doesn’t quite seem to go together, which is surprising), better seats in the individual screening rooms. Most luxury cinemas in the city have recliner seats or something to elevate the experience. They could even just update one or two screening rooms.

From storys I have heard, you should go to this Theater if you want to try watching a movie, with a subway passing by every 10 minutes and loudly disrrupting the expierience...

One of my favorite movie theaters in Manhattan, by far, because of the incredible seating and cafe upstairs. You can wait to meet someone for a meeting, or before a date, perhaps. Great coffee and snacks upstairs paired with classic movie theater treats downstairs with the screens. Projections are always flawless but the screening rooms are small.

Lovely place to see independent films and documentaries. It is kept tidy but the cinema chairs are not as quiet as good as the ones at the Landmark. the chairs are a bit smaller and they dont recline. With that said, I like the spacious seating area by the consession stand and the atmosphere in general. I would come back to see a film there

For warm, beautiful crafted films, Angelika is the place. Currently a Jane Austen series with fresh faces and a sense of humor. Portrait of a Lady on Fire is an exquisite film, not to miss.

A one of a kind experience. The charm of the cafe and its staff is a great way to start off any film. The traditional style theater makes you feel like you are watching the film the way it was intended to be screened. I will be returning. A new go to for me.

Such a lovely community movie theater. Great vibe and shows an excellent mix of indy and more mainstream films - if something is showing here I assume it will be a good movie.

Ri
Review №21

Great place to catch independent movies not playing in mainstream theatres. Tickets can be bought online and redeemed at the theater using QR code in your email or purchased in person. Its got a cafe in the lobby for coffee and baked goods, and your usual sugary drinks and popcorn concession stands downstairs in front of the theatres. The theater I was in was narrow but long with an aisle down the middle and seats on either side. The seats were all level to the ground meaning if someone taller than you sits in front of you youre probably going to have to change seats. All in all, a great venue for a different kind of movie night experience.

I dont go here nearly as much as I probably should. The selection of films is good and I just came back from seeing the latest Almodóvar film, Dolor y Gloria. Our favorite movie house in New York. Always has a wonderful menu of independent movies. It is, for us at least, an iconic cinema theater. This time we watched If Only Beale Street Could Talk, based on the James Baldwin classic. What is wonderful to see is just how busy the place is and how diverse the demographic is. And a really nice coffee bar. We recommend highly.

Do not see a movie with subtitles here. The bottom of the screen is blocked by the person ahead of you. In my case, it was also blocked to the left & right because there were tall people ahead, and folks in front of me were leaning. I chose not to leave B/c I didn’t want to disturb the person with whom I came. I complained to the manager. She was not sympathetic.

A little tricky getting tickets online. Lots of indie and small-budget films here that aren’t available elsewhere in the area. Cheap popcorn. Very long theater (think lots of rows). Old seats, not plush recliners but it’s alright, I’ve been getting spoiled lately anyways. Bathroom is a little grunge-y. Easy to get to.

They show the art house indie movies that you cant see in your local multiplex - I gotta give em that. 5 stars! However, the theaters are getting old, you can make out the rumbling of the subway underground, some of the theaters are two long and narrow for the size of the screen, and one does, at times, feel like one is being headed about like so much cattle.Still, did I mention, they show good movies that you cant find in most theaters. So I keep coming back.

They have a great selection of movies but that’s about it. The food and drinks are overpriced and the seats aren’t comfortable. The way it’s built is somewhat not modern, so even an average person will block some of the screen if they sit in front of you.Don’t go unless you have to.

Fantastic movie house that features independent and foreign movies. Also includes a wide cafe area to meet and talk with people before and after the film. The seats arent the most comfortable, but the quality of their selection makes up for it. Have gone 5 times in the past year. The theaters are cozy and intimate and audiences are often very respectful of the films. The pre-roll is also very considerate mainly featuring upcoming trailers for movies that will be shown at the Angelika. If you have Working Advantage or Plum Benefits through your job its worth checking out their Movie discount section.

Angelika will always be my most favorite spot to see an indie or foreign film in NYC. I love the vintage vibe of an older theater. Its a nice break from the modern theaters with stadium seating or recliners. Occasionally I will go to a film screening here that FOX Searchlight hosts and its usually a packed house, but staff works hard to keep everything under control. The cafe is a spot to stop off at if you dont feel like eating a whole meal before your movie. Never had a bad experience here in the near 20 years I have been going to Angelika. Tickets purchasable in advance. Love it here and will continue to visit even if I ever moved away!

My favorite movie theater in the city. Not only does it play all of the great indie films, but it’s very laid back. No thrills, no bells and whistles—just a good old fashioned movie theater.Only criticism: the cafe prices are ridiculous. I loooved Angelika! I went to go see The Lighthouse directed by Robert Eggers and starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe. I went with a friend, reserving seats in advance. The theater was packed! And it wasnt just the same kind of person - it was an electic group of people that made up the audience. It was so spacious in the theater as well, for an arthouse theater! And my favorite element of the cinema is the cafe at the front. I got the cheesecake and it was luscious. I ended up staying chatting with my friend until the closing time of the center. I felt comfortable, relaxed, and at peace.

Dated but one of my fave places for a movie bc I’m into films that typically only play in “select cities”, and the Angelika is a NYC staple for their selection of indie and limited run films. Also, the coffee is a fab grown up treat and interesting twist on the movie going experience. Great location, a block from major subways. I mean Prince St and all so it’s great for a night out, even a date night, with plenty of places for dinner around here after a thought provoking film.
