Hands down one of the most interesting experiences one can have in NYC. This tiny jazz club from the prohibition era is the place where many great artists have shared their craft and this is still true today. It is small, it is hidden, it is unpretentious. And that’s all great!

Very unique way to experience jazz music. Cant get much closer to the artists than this. Music is fantastic and storytelling interesting and fun. It was my third time here and definitely not the last one.

An extremely cozy and nice venue where they play jazz! I have never been to such authentic places like that! If you are in NYC don’t lose a moment to have that experience! Jazz in Harlem! Where else could it be so delicious? It’s closely located to the metro station, so you won’t get lost. Bill’s place is very small and that what makes you feel at home. I liked its old-fashioned interior, adorable music instruments, and the performance itself, indeed. I was listening to the music just in front of the band. I saw them playing their instruments so passionately that I wanted to join them! Guys are very dedicated to what they do and play music wholeheartedly. You will feel that when see them yourselves. One more advantage of Bill’s place is that you can see the true Harlem. Late in the evening, the neighborhood is all about its real self. Random people walking along the streets, policemen are up not to let anything bad happen there. I didn’t feel scarred, vice versa, I liked the ambience of one the interesting and unconventional or maybe conventional areas in NYC that’s is to be visited.

A great experience. It is a bit loud since it is small, so I would highly suggest eat plugs. But the Bebop flies here. Definitely worth the price. Its sort casual. Its almost like sitting in on a rehearsal, except its a show. These guys really fly good together.

To truly get the feel of the Harlem Renaissance, hit up Bill’s Place. This speakeasy is in the heart of Harlem and was opened by musician Bill Saxton in 2006. Located on the bottom floor of a brownstone that traces its roots back to the Prohibition era, Bill’s Place is a snug, elbow-touching space and the perfect venue to watch world-class jazz.

If you go to NY and want to experience and feel part of jazz history, you dont want to miss this hidden gem. Its in a brownstone in the middle of Harlem, which is where the owner, Bill, lives (hence Bills place). You want to be there at least 20 minutes before show time, so you can grab on of the 10 or so seats right in front of the stage, otherwise youll have to seat on the side room, where you obviously can stil see and hear the performers, but in my opinion you wont experience it the same way.The show was 90 minutes filled with amazing jazz music. The musicians are all very accomplished and they each tour the world with their music on their own, so getting to experience them so up close and personal is truly a treat. Their eneefy and chemistry was phenomenal. Mind you, this is the place where Billie Holiday was discovered, so truly a piece of jazz history. It was good for my soul, if I could give it 10 stars, I would.(Oh, and another great thing is that you can bring your own wine, as they dont serve alcohol, but they allow you to bring your own, I mean, does it get any better?)

Ive been coming here for about 10 years. Ive never seen a bad show. Bill Saxton is thre only consistent, pianist, bass and drummers vary, but always good or great. It is a small place so reservations suggested, but not necessary. If you want the best seats be sure to arrive st least 30 minutes before the show. It is BYOB, no drinks or food served. Admission is now $30 cash only.

The band gets 4 stars for a great find on a Sunday early afternoon! They were so darn cute and I enjoyed them very much. The bartender brought the review down because he was messing drinks up, but hopefully it was just because the poor guy was stressed out or something. Were all hum An here. I would definitely return and recommend. Its old school, but its a good time and its tip based. The bands definitely earn their keep!!!

Visiting Bills is like stepping into a time capsule back to the years of prohibition. It was 1920 when this tiny, intimate venue was established, right on 133rd Street in Harlem, which was called Swing Street due to the abundance of speakeasys in that particular street.Bill Saxton took over the place more than 10 years ago and keeps up with the tradition. Fridays and Saturdays only youll be his guest in this cozy ground floor venue, and when I say venue, I practically mean a long stretched room not larger than a normal living room in NYC. It hosts about 20-25 people, the jazz band, and Bill on the saxophone. They play two sets an evening, starting at 8pm and 10pm. Its recommend you reserve a seat before getting there. Cover is $20 pp, and its BYOB.A unique, intimate, and great live jazz experience in Harlem. Highly recommended!

I dont give many five stars, and Bills Place is deserving of it. The venue, pretty much just an old apartment in Harlem, is intimate and full of history. Bill Saxton is a great hard bop style saxaphonist and you tell hes influenced by Benny Gholson and the other tenors of the time. The best plus: its cheap and you can bring your own drinks. What more can you want?

Set in an apartment dripping with history (one of the few Harlem speakeasies, one where Billy Holiday used to sill), this BYO venue serves up amazing jazz, helmed by Bill himself and flanked by all sorts of up-and-comers. The stage is less than 10 feet away from you, so you can literally feel the vibration of the music in your body.

My friend invited me to Bills Place and I told her I wasnt a huge fan of jazz but I am so happy I came. She informed me it was BYOB so I bought a small wine bottle and truly enjoyed the performances for the night which lasted almost 2 hours. You defintely should make reservations because seating is limited but the seating that you get is up close and personal. The staff are very friendly and interacts with the crowd throughout the night. Some of the sets were low key and others were rocking and body shaking grooves. I had a great time and it was truly a positive and unique experience in Harlem.
