The Shed has great shows. Always. The show are well curated and the pieces are properly displayed. I recommend allocating more time than a standard gallery. Artwork there is always engaging and has an extra layer of philosophy that you may need to spend sometime reading , watching, listening... I’ve seen 4 shows so far and all are very memorable shows to me.

The structure is really interesting, if not a bit cavernous. Have a drink on the first level in the swanky lounge. Programming is really hit or miss, but that’s performance art, isn’t it? Membership has its privileges - consider signing up for the email list at least. There are free ticketed performances offered but you have to know to look out for them. Take the alpine elevator if you take the 7 train - that’s my extra little tip.

Amazing! A unique copper sculpture which doubles as a viewing platform and wonderful place to climb and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. The views over the Hudson River are spectacular, and the perspectives down to the center and up to the buildings above make some wonderful photos. its free but you have to give a ticket which are issued on the side and the tickets are for a certain time slot sometimes as long as an hour or two later. Thats not a problem if you just take a walk down The High Line Park and come back.

What an extraordinary performance venue. And if half of the performances are as good as “A Quiet Evening of Dance”, then this place is going to be incredible.Aside from all the modern and expected amenities of a hall, and the beautiful art that surrounds it, and the exceptional staff, there’s one more thing that sets this place apart—you can bring your drinks in to the show!Enjoy

This place is absolutely beautiful. A great addition to Hudson yards on the West side. Make sure you buy your tickets online ahead of time (they are free but you need to just RSVP tickets to walk around inside). The sunset is on the west side too, so you can get some great photos of the sunset if you go at the right time.

The Shed is a newly opened (April 5, 2019)Gallery for contemporary art. The building, along with its location along the high line is spectacular. The exhibition rooms are spaceous and ideal for showcasing artworks of many categories. The Shed specializes in comissioning work from contemporary artists. So a visit here will also bring you up to date to some of whats going on. I was lucky to see the huge Agnes Denes exhibition, featuring both older work and two commisioned installations. Inspiring!

Free art installations/exhibits worth checking out. Requirement is to get tickets, but no charge. Head up the escalators to view various art spaces on different floors. Beautiful place both inside and outside! I was attending Dragon Spring Phoenix Rise musical and it was really good. The theatre is not very big and the stage is rather small but well-equipped. There were fire and water effects on the scene, actors were coming up and down from the ceiling on the straps. Sitting so close, on the other hand, has its advantage of being able to see actors’ faces and emotions. There is also a bar-restaurant at the very lower level. Didn’t not visit it and cannot say if it is good but looks very cosy.

The Shed was awesome! The Open Call exhibits were great pieces of art with meaningful messaging behind them. They also have a great book selection in their store right next to the bar where you can grab a drink and meal. The area outside of The Shed is great as well with The Vessel right in your view. The Hudson Yards shopping mall is right behind it and they have all the great stores such as Zara, Neiman Marcus, Sephora, etc. as well as places to catch a meal.

The Shed is a nice venue with quite a bit of potential. Im not sure of the current state of it in terms of a final vision, but its got lots of open space, good for any variety of shows, installations, exhibits, etc.. I didnt spend too much time here - just an hour or so for the Reich Richter Part exhibit, but I thought it was really nicely done. The ticket cost wasnt crazy and it was the perfect setting for both the music and the artwork.Although Im a little sad I didnt get to see Bjork here, Id be happy to come back whenever something fun pops in.

They have some charge once the daily free quota is filled (prob by 6/7 pm).The views from the top are spectacular and the modern architecture is very unique and appealing. You can see the Hudson river, New Jersey, Trains arriving in the Hudson Yard, and more. There is an upscale mall next to it which would soon have an observatory. OLDISH MONEY, NYC STYLE,is behind this dazzling arts complex in dark interior colors that is part of the generally meh-meh Hudson Yards megaproject on mid-Manhattan’s west side, to judge from the brag listings on The Shed’s ground floor. (Look up for details near the welcome book stall.) Many of the non-government benefactors are 20th-century wealthy, with money made over decades in media, finance, tobacco and lodging; it’s not Astor-era cash. That said, The Shed has a rumpled roof very unlike NYC’s older arts institutions and a silhouette nearly feline, which is playfully apt for an enterprise dedicated to disruptive art and performances. The theatres and exhibitions venues are stacked along West Thirtieth Street and are reached by escalators smartly positioned for cityscape views. (Please see video.) There is also a handsome bar and cafe, most directly reached from Thirtieth Street, rather than the Hudson Yards plaza.LOO REVIEW: Sparkling men’s rooms that are tiled and lit subtlety and with many stalls on a theater level, ready for those intermission crowds.

The Maze at the Shed in the Hudson Yards was a performance that tells the history of the African American experience in America without uttering a word. The movements of the performers were crisp, evocative, and built a raw energy that was sustained by the brilliant structure of the show. Not to mention the fact that they had a live band, which added another layer of experience to the performance, and then you have the significance of the interplay between light and shadow to further broaden the visual experience. If you dont see The Maze then youre robbing yourself of one lifes cultural treats.

Amazing new futuristic venue at the Hudson Yards. Relatively intimate main venue (the McCourt) has nicely banked seats for good views. Friendly efficient staff. Cedrics in the lobby is a fun no-tipping bar/eatery - get there early, gets crowded near showtime. Tips - hail your ride from the rear plaza entrance. Going to a music show with overhead video? - take a cap with a good visor to give you the option of blocking the screen. The stunning musical rendition of the Requiem I experienced last night was wrecked by the appallingly inept, overbearing and irrelevant accompanying video.

It was fun to go to a play here, was able to get last minute tickets, afterward sitting at a communal table in the bar downstairs one of the actors from the play sat down right beside. He (Ben Whishaw) is one of my favourite actors so that was very exciting for me. However, even if it is architecturally interesting (free space à la Cedric Price Fun Palace), the project is rather disappointing given the budget and the stakes for a major new cultural centre for New York City. Doesnt help things much that you have to walk past horrible window displays in Hudson Yards. And overall just grim that the newest addition to the pantheon of NYC cultural institutions is excreted out of a condo tower.

The building is pretty spectacular, but this place doesn’t seem well run. I stood for a few minutes just inside the entrance waiting for some friends to arrive, and I noticed that they were having everyone who entered throw the food and liquids they had from other places in the garbage. And I mean they searched peoples bags and were taking out the food and water. Not only did it feel like they were intimidating their visitors, but it felt super unethical to me to have people throw away food and water. When I asked whether they thought this was really the right thing to do, the guy just smirked at me like I was something he scraped off his shoe. The crazy thing is, once the people at the door have searched your bag and taken your water, the first thing you see inside is a drinks stand.Once inside, instead of being able to go to your seat, as you would in a normal theater 10 mins before the show, they have everyone wait in the lobby. But instead of organizing a rational line, they let things run themselves. Meanwhile, ever the watchful gaze of a crazy number of security guards everywhere, whose sole purpose seems to be to try to be as intimidating as possible.Isn’t this a cultural venue?? It felt like the headquarters of an evil corporation to me. Nothing cultural about it.

Ross maintained that he accepts views on the Right and the Left and doesnt wish to take sides. I therefore am waiting for him to conduct a fundraiser or two for Democratic Candidates.Until that happens, I requested a return of my membership money which I had wished to send to the Democratic Candidate of my choice.Alas Membership funds would not be reinbursed!I wont be attending any performance there until Ross walks his talk and gives support to Democrats whose ideas he likes. What a shame.

This is a disappointing place to see a performance. Just getting into the hall is a chore that requires you to line up in a overly long queue which snakes through a dark and chaotic lobby, just for a chance to ride an escalator up to the main level of the theater. This is a lengthy, unpleasant, and poorly managed procedure. It is unclear why The Shed seems to have so much more trouble seating patrons than any other venue in the city.Once you are in your seat things get no better. The seats are uncomfortable and resemble nothing so much as an airplane jump seat. Also, the upper tier of seats sits upon movable metal risers, meaning every footstep echoes loudly throughout the concert hall during the performance. A concert hall which has all the aesthetic charm of a mid-sized cities convention center. On the plus side, The Sheds exterior is architecturally interesting, and it is pretty close to the 7 train.
