Man, we were two young lads from Brighton, England in 1995 when we went to the ABC. What prompted me to write this was the mention of English Neil - that has to be the same Neil who let us stay at his place in India Street, Brooklyn. Such great memories. By all accounts Neil relocated to the west coast fruit farming or something similar. I managed to sneak a jam on the drums in the ABC - Ill post a.pic later.

Played a show there in a “crusty/punk/metal” band on July 2, 1992. Went up from Philadelphia with a brother band of a similar genre. A different time, my friends.....young and old, who are on the fast fringes of society, a different time. Not the largest venue, crowd, or tightest we ever played, however it is definitely one of the best days of my life, and at least by our last # the crowd had grown from about 10 to 20 people. (including our 5 mates from the band we traveled with). Philly will always be home, but there ain’t no place like “Downtown Manhattan“! I hope “English Neil”, who booked us is doing well.Long live Johnny Thunders! (And Arthur Kane, Jerry Nolan, Billy Murcia, all of the first lineup of the Ramones, [Marky rules as well],Stiv Bators, Jimmy Carroll, and all of my other friends and influences ....(damn, I’m old!)Edited: R.I.P Walter Lure.

Historic is the best word for it. This is a really punk, no frills spot that feels like the LES of old new york. I used to go for the screen printing which was a rare luxury (free!)
