Whats not to love about the Cloisters.Peaceful beautiful place located in Fort Tryon Park. Specializing in medieval art and architecture . Truly enjoyable even if your not into medieval art there is something for everyone including the gardens you can take in the scenery and stunning viewd of the Hudson River. Worth the visit .Of course in the spring when everything is starting to bloom is wonderful...but all seasons are worth taking in at the Cloisters.

Ive visited several times over the years, though I have seen it many more times, at least the tower, from the water in one of my kayaks or paddle boards. First, it was just my wife and I, then bringing our daughter to the medieval fair a few years, and weve brought visiting relatives as well. The site itself has a pretty fascinating history, having had a mansion atop the hill for many years from the late 1800s into the early 20th century, when portions of several European cloisters were brought here to be the foundation for what is here today.

One of my favorite places to visit, you don’t even feel like you’re in NYC! Feels like you’ve transported to Europe! The museum itself is gorgeous, I especially love the gardens. You can spend a few hours just sitting in the gardens, and it’s so relaxing and soothing. Great collection of Medieval Art. Everything about this place is just fantastic! Best time to visit is in the spring and summer, to see the flowers blooming in the gardens.

Great collection of medieval art. This is not everybodys cup of tea, but the wonderfully detailed carvings, sculptures, tapestries, stained glass and Decorative Arts are really amazing. Take a moment to see how amazingly detailed they are. Works of great artistic skill, effort and patience. There are also some lovely little gardens, and great views of the Hudson River. More terrific views and forest trails are at hand in Fort Tryon Park, where the museum is located. The medieval architecture is pretty cool too. Much of it brought over from monestaries in Europe.

The cloister is amazing. Its not only about the cloister but also outside of it and around the place . If you go inside you will find lots of things which is made before 500-800 hundreds years ago . One secret is you can pay any amount you want for go inside but if you ask them or check online it say 25 dollars which is really not true. So guys if you are interested about history or arts you should go there. I grantee you you will like it.

Beautiful, filled with neat stuff arranged as it would have been. Informative plaques next to the items. Might give preservationists the vapors though, since a lot of stuff has finger marks on it or had modern(well, Carnegie-era) replacement parts added.

One of the most interesting art museums on Planet Earth for sure. I spent a good 4 hours here with a friend and we needed probably 3 more hours to have ingested it even more slowly and intensively. The Medieval art pieces in this museums collection will blow your mind. The architecture, imported from Europe piece by piece and reassembled by master stonemasons, is just plain astounding. Enjoy being surrounded by history in its purest form, as art and architecture.

This museum is a tiny replica of a few monasteries in France mashed together. The majority of art is religious in nature but thats the middle ages for you. There are also some interesting gardens. I didnt actually see any suits of armor but there are several rooms filled with unicorn tapestries. The main problem I had was that it was very crowded when I went. But you couldnt blame people because it is free for most of us.

What a beautifully done rendition of a medieval monastery! Can spend hours in here but I think a bit overwhelming for one visit. The museum pieces are definitely unique, from restored church naves and doors to the sculptures and priestly vestments. Being medieval the religious component is primary here.

What can I say about this location is that its a hidden gem of North Manhattan. When accidentally found this place during my yearly December hike through the city, I thought I was transported to Medieval Europe. My trek started by leaving the subway station near Gorman park and headed west to the Hudson Cliffs. When arriving, the George Washington Bridge awaited me. What was left of the trees on both sides of the Hudson were all painted in different colors. Its one of those sights that you never would forget. Tree after tree painted in golden yellows and brilliant reds surrounding the white bridge. From that point I traveled north through Fort Tryon Park and stopped at the lookout next to the monument on the highest point of the park. I continued going north on Margaret Corbin Dr. crossing over Ft. Tryon Tunnel and that is when I first saw the Cloisters. Such a beautiful place during the winter. A medieval castle in the center of a multi-colored forest. Being in that place at that time was worth the long hike. When I entered they were playing church music in the chapel and you can really hear the acoustics of the room. You can also walk along the hallways admiring all the different art that is on display. Its such a great place to visit and I do recommended taking a hike through the park to visit it. Dont mess the opportunity to truly admire the location.
