A fixture in the Manhattan experimental theatre scene, with great interdisciplinary resident artists and rental companies/sublet series. Their facilities and equipment are particularly good as a smaller venue in both the smaller downstairs space and the larger upstairs space. Their programming of original works and puppetry are particularly noteworthy and memorable.

We’ve seen a few shows here and the customer service has been great. The venue is small and intimate so you’re guaranteed a great seat. Highly recommend.

Basil Twist is a world class puppeteer, and the artists and works that his remarkable theater curates are equally remarkable. Without exception they celebrate the art and craft of puppetry at a world class level. Truly a jewel in the crown of New Yorks art scene. Just avoid the hot chocolate at the bar

We’ve been to HERE several times, and always come away thinking that it is the epitome of the amazing quality, passion, authenticity, and (often) fun that is available in NYC if you hunt for it and pay attention. Grateful HERE exists.

I work on Broadway, so being able to see an off-Broadway show is amazing to me. I saw the Golden Girls Musical Parody: Pride Edition here, and it was amazing! The staff was really personable, friendly, and just easy to talk to. Not too expensive, either! Loved the style inside as well (fyi: nude photos)

Anyone who goes to New York to see real art should not spend his money on Broadway musicals, but visit this theater. There was an excellent performance of the piece american fables that was very easy to understand for the non-native english speaker. After that you could talk with the actors and the director in the cozy bar area to the lowest beer prices in this city. In any case go!

I went to see my friend in a spectacular rendition of Tender Napalm. She was spectacular and HERE Theater was a joy!

I loved the play, The Black History Museum.

We had a great experience as part of the summer sublet series and I’d definitely recommend!

Its was absolutely incredible and a recommendation for all who have the slightest curiosity. Went by myself and met people there that shared the same interests. A 10 out of 10. Thank this place for still being around and open.

Often home to interesting / innovative shows but its risky. I am surprised that this space hasnt become home to more successful productions. Years ago I saw an Obie winning play at HERE and it was home to the original Symphonie Fantastic (which I can not lie - I hated) but which was a tremendous success.In recent years I have not been drawn to productions but tonight I went to see a production of Tender Naplam - a really hard script - but great actors.Also the cafe could be significantly better. The whole place seemed very under funded / under staffed tonight.Maybe they should seek out a partnership with a place like the TANK that seems to have more to put on than their tiny space can hold?Fyi there is a TERRIBLE staircase - impossible for older theater crowd - make sure to ask for the elevator - they have one - its just not obvious - staff escort you to a different building entrance.

They have a bar and snacks right in their lobby so you can hangout until the show starts. Box office staff very helpful. Stadium seating setup inside so I had a good view of the show.

Had the incredible privilege of seeing the Apple Boys at HERE. The blackbox is intimate yet comfortable and the talent was sensational.

Nice intimate black box theater. There may be a couple of performance spaces there; the downstairs one I was in is rather wide and not too deep, so all seats feel close to the stage.

Its here I saw Basil Twists Symphonies Fantastique. Awesome experience seeing underwater puppetry works. The place is not that big but it is enough for a show like this to be performed there...

Small, intimate theater with decent sound and lighting. Limited seating and selections at the bar. We saw a one-off show that the performers had just improvised and it was terrible, with a lot of pointless and self-congratulatory moments. Totally a waste of time and money.

I was unaware of HERE until I had the pleasure of checking out a dance performance. I thought the space was very nice, and hanging out in the cafe while waiting for the show to start was a nice touch. I suppose it is the performances that bring the place to life, but all in all I liked the feel of HERE.

Its a beautiful place people around just doing there Owen thing enjoying life not fighting it and I can sit here all day and no worries great place for family and friends to enjoy a good workout walking the hills

Love this essential Downtown performance venue. It has several performance spaces, and offers amazing work developed there and works by resident companies and artists.

Great place for emerging play write productions ! And affordable way to get your theater fix. Very spare but has that old school, downtown theater vibe.
