If you have time to take the free tour here, do it! The tour was just me, my husband, and the guide! (There was supposed to be 2 more people but they no-showed, rude!!) The tour was super informative, fun, and you get to try a few different spirits. It was 2 hours long. Absolutely beautiful building. ALL the employees we talked to there were great. We were in NOLA for 5 days and this was one of our top 3 things we did.

This was a great find in NOLA. The free 90 minute guided tour was exceptional. They take sanitation very seriously and will provide masks and gloves if needed. Our tour guide, Jim, was funny and provided interesting stories and factoids.

We had a truly outstanding tour of the Sazerac House distillery/interactive museum today. It was very covid-19 conscious without detracting from the experience - temperature check, gloves provided, masks required, sanitized stylus for interactive screens, social distancing between groups, timed entrances with good pacing, and more. It all felt so smartly planned and natural. Our guide, Jim, was a former radio presenter with an amazing voice and full of great jokes. He clearly had a passion for history, mixology, and spirits with a gift for passing that passion on to his audience. Being interactive, there were many delicious cocktails to try, views of their active micro-distillery operating in the same building, and great touch-screen style exhibits with details about the Sazerac House brands alcohols, tasting notes, history, recipes (with option to text the recipe info to you for later!), and even 4 virtual bartenders from around the city who will teach you how to mix a cocktail, some history about it, and even pose for a selfie with you. My expectations were blown away and I cant wait to come back next time were in town. Highly recommend.

One of the best experiences in New Orleans by far. This place is beautifully designed and conveniently located right on Canal street. The tour is beyond excellent, I still can’t believe it’s all free. Top notch covid safety protocol with temperature check, sanitizer stations everywhere and gloves provided. Our guide Kristine was amazing, very welcoming and super knowledgeable. Jim at the front was also really hospitable and engaging. Tour is full of detailed history and highly interactive.Complimentary tastings along the tour include classic cocktails, rye whiskey that’s distilled and bottled in house and also aromatic bitters that are distilled on site. The gift shop has awesome merchandise and cocktail aficionado gems that you simply won’t find anywhere else.Overall, a really memorable experience that everyone should enjoy. Highest quality all around.

It was a fun and interactive experience. The Sazerac house has changed some things due to covid. For one you have to schedule a tour time online, totally free though. Also, they no longer let you walk around by yourself everything is tour guided. Luckily our guide was super excited about everything and clearly enjoyed doing it. Also for all legal drinkers they give you tastes of different cocktails along the way. It may strike some as a little touristy, but it can be quite educational too for spirit novices.

Time well spent in The Big Easy. They are extremely cautious and safe, masks are required as well as gloves (provided). Jim knows what he’s talking about when it comes to Rye Whiskey and cocktails in general. One of our tour mates asked an excellent question and senior team member came out to answer the question with plenty of history and facts to back it up. Next time we’re in town we will retake the tour again.

I work at an attraction, so I look at things a little differently than an average tourist. I really liked what The Sazerac House did to depict the history of their spirits and the process of distilling. Book long ahead of your trip to get the day/time youd like for your tour. I liked that it is a self-guided tour. Sometimes, you just want to find things on your own. But there are plenty of well-educated, very enthusiastic staff there to tell you more about everything. Its a pretty big place to explore. Im not typically one for buying souvenirs but they have great merch and also other wonderful items that are hard to pass up. Also, its generally just really attractive in here. Men and women alike will enjoy the space. There are a few liquor samples but also they had lemonade in lieu of this for the non-drinkers. Great thinking!

We loved the interactive tour, though it was a bit redundant. The screens we touched basically reiterated what the tour guide had already explained. But I understand that this is probably done because some people have better auditory/receptive skills than reading skills. The cocktail and rye whiskey samples we got to try were great. Learning about the history of the Sazerac cognac company, the distillation process and all of the brands theyve since acquired was pretty neat. Ill definitely visit again to purchase the rare rum from Guyana thats available in their gift shop.

Fantastic place when in NOLA.! You wont be disappointed. Its free! Must be over 21 to get in. Ive been to many museums and attractions. Studying how they present their information. The Sazerac House is way up there! The augmented reality they use is top notch. One of the favorite attributes was the ability to text yourself the recipe of a drink. Also available is the tastings of alcohol. The prices of the bottles after the tour were not out of line with normal for top shelf.Every staff member was very friendly and informative. They did a fantastic job with this place. EXCELLENT _FREE_ TOUR! As a New Orleans local I visited at the suggestion of a friend and had a blast. Its much more than just a distillery tour--the 19th-century building is a museum of all things related to New Orleans cocktails. There are interactive exhibits, artifacts/ephemera, cocktail/booze samples, and the staff members are fantastic. I was lucky to have Jim as a tour leader--he knows his stuff, hes got jokes, and he made sure all of us in the tour group followed all social distancing and health guidelines. The entire operation goes above and beyond to ensure everyones safety. All visitors are provided with gloves and a stylus for the touch screens on interactive exhibits. Whether youre a local or a visitor, I highly recommend this FREE tour!PS: Before this tour I had never heard of Legendre Ojén, a Spanish liqueur that was a New Orleans staple until it went out of production some years ago. Now Sazerac has brought it back to life and Jim has some cool stories about it!

This was such a great experience. The tour really has something for everyone: history, alcohol and food science, a beautiful building, New Orleans lore, working stills, and a gift shop that you’ll be tempted to clean out. My fiancé and I were the only people on our tour, and our tour guide John completely tailored the tour for us. John let me do my thing (taking lots of pictures and reading every card) while telling my fiancé some interesting stories and facts. We visited during Covid, but felt completely safe-Every safety measure was available and implemented. And this tour is completely free, so if you don’t like it just leave. But I really doubt you will.

Wonderful, delicious, and educational experience in this one of a kind museum and distillery! I learned so much about the history of coffee, commerce, cocktails, and New Orleans itself as it fit into the backdrop of the overall history of the United States. Upon entering, you get your ID checked, and receive a wrist bracelet if over 21. They will scan this bracelet before you get your free drink samples. Then an elevator takes you up to the top floor. Each floor has interactive displays, historical artifacts, info about the ingredients and manufacture of different spirits associated with New Orleans, and a tasting station with sample cocktails. One the best is a bank of 4 screens with recorded videos of bartenders making drinks if choosing. If only more education was taught this way! The spirits wall is equally impressive, showing all the labels under the Sazerac brand. Must visit. And it’s all FREE!

TLDR: JIM is amazing and so is this place!!! Health and safety regulations are on point! 12/10 will recommend!!So to start, this place is a must-see if you appreciate a great cocktail and history lesson. I am a craft-cocktail bartender and still learned so much about the origin and history of my favorite classic and NOLA original, the Sazerac. But even more than the information itself, it was the staff that really made the experience. We were greeted by an amazing door-gentleman, Julius, who set the tone for the great time we were about to have. Faith from the gift shop made a point to start up a great conversation with me about a common interest, Doctor Who (shout out to my phone case). Jimmy in the distillery took us on a behind the scenes tour of how their distillation process works and was so patient with all of our questions. And Matt Ray, one of the managers, stopped and took his time to chat and hang out with us on our tour for a bit, and was such a great company and conversationalist. (Thanks for the Sazerac coins btw, I was ecstatic about that!) But it was my man JIM that really did it for us! Jim was our tour guide, and he really went above and beyond expectations! He is a hilarious guy who always has a joke ready (no matter how cheesy!), and you could really tell how passionate he was about his craft. While I’m sure everyone there is absolutely amazing, I am so glad I had the pleasure of going on the tour with Jim. I have been to New Orleans more times than I can count, and this is one of my favorite things that I have done here. So thank you to everyone that I had the pleasure of interacting with today, and a huge shoutout to Jim - would LOVE to be a part of one of your infamous cocktail parties!! I will definitely be back!! -Kat

I came in with zero expectations and really wasnt expecting much especially given how the ground-floor / lobby is basically empty space + a gift shop. True, this place is designed to get you to buy things, but it is a free experience with tastings, which is what drew me in.I was very pleasantly surprised with how detailed and interactive the upper floors were. A great museum and experience that explores the history of cocktails in a more relaxed environment than you would get on Bourbon Street. A nice departure from the New Orleans norm, this free experience really sets itself apart from most of the other attractions in the area. If you enjoy a good beverage, or are genuinely curious of the history of cocktails/bitters and more, its worth a stop!
