This is an amazing interactive museum that brings WWII up close and personal. The dog tags you get in the beginning to follow a soldiers story is brilliant! Plan 1 or 2 whole days if you really like to read and take time in all the exhibits. The American Cafe and 2 gift shops make this such a memorable experience. FANTASTIC learning experience for kids.

A must see if you visit New Orleans. The thought, creativity and planning that went into this amazing, top-notch complex is mind-blowing. During COVID, the museum offers timed entries and complementary touch-screen wands for the interactive displays. At no time did I feel uncomfortable by crowds. This is no ordinary museum with old clothes and relics behind glass display cases (although there are several). The designers went to great lengths to reconstruct a home in the 1940s or to make you feel as though you are in a snow storm during the Battle of the Bulge. My child loved the 5 airplanes suspended in air. The 50-minute movie, Beyond all Boundaries, narrated by Tom Hanks is a 4-D presentation that is a must-see. The most profound thing that stuck out in my mind was how reverent and silent all participants were during their time in the museum. There are friendly staff members located throughout the facility that are willing to help you or explain an exhibit to you. Private tours are available and a parking garage is located across the street. I recommend staying at the Higgins Hotel across the street as they sometimes offer package deals. All-in-all the experience was moving, beautifully and tastefully done and is a lasting tribute to the men and women who fought to preserve the liberty and freedom we all cherish.

The museum is a must if your going to NOLA. The hours are 9 to 5, we went from 12 to 5 and still didnt see everything. Be sure to include the movie. The Canteen closes at 2 if you want to eat, the food is great. You must wear a mask at all times. Parking for the 5 hours was $20 right next to the museum. It covers 3 buildings and 2 to 4 floors each. You will enjoy it.

I am a WW2 buff. My father repaired airplanes north of London during the war. Ive read numerous books about the war and watched many a movie. I was excited to go through the museum. This museum is incredible! The layout, the WW2 content, videos, photos, items from the war are very very impressive. All fronts of the war are addressed. There are 5 sections (3 buildings). I added a lot of new information to my already vast knowledge.I was told that they are adding a new building which will address the liberation/post war time.Make your reservations on line. You will pick a specific day and time to arrive. Be sure to pay the extra $7 for the 4D movie. Spectacular!!!As we toured during covid, we wore masks. The main restaurant was open. Nice bathrooms throughout the buildings. Elevators are available for those who cannot navigate stairs. Wonderful large gift shop, that also sells a few cold beverages and candy/snacks.Allow plenty of time. We spent 4 hours in the museum and easily could have spent more.Wonderful, knowledgeable volunteers are throughout the exhibits to answer questions.Leaving this museum gave me a new appreciation for the huge sacrifice of multiple thousands to maintain our freedom.NOTE:. Its chilly in these buildings so bring a sweater or jacket.

Remarkable history lessons. Im so glad I went. We took 2 days to see everything which was not quite enough time because one exhibit was closed....the European portion. I had never truly realized how world wide this war was. I came to see how incredibly dedicated everyone was in winning this war. The citizens as well as the military were all in and accomplished unbelievable feats of production, engineering, manufacturing, at every level and beyond. The women played a much larger role in the success of the war than I had realized. I was told that in a few years there will be another section added. It will focus on the liberation. I will definitely return to see that portion of the museum as well. We came to New Orleans specifically to see the museum. So glad we did.

OKAY, well employees are extremely polite and to the point of exceptional! Does not make up for EVERYTHING that it is..... INCLUDING over priced entry or food in the restaurant. If you really care about history the price ?...THIS would NOT be so expensive if history mattered.. and it takes almost a full day because more COVID signs are posted vs directional signs. We went back and forth attempting to find our way through the museum. Tons of neat things and awesome set ups but If ya cared about history maybe a 10 dollar entry would be appropriate and normal priced food.... Because of the high price Ill personally never be back! once lesson learned! 2nd time wont occur in this lifetime! $13.99 for a patty melt with discussing seasoned fries .Dunno even what was on it but try Salt vs whatever that was. Unless it was free Id never go again.

Dont sell it short. It really deserves the time.Cost of entry was 18$ per with military discount and masks were required while inside. The museum opened as the D-Day Museum, on June 6, 2000, the 56th anniversary of D-Day, focusing on the amphibious invasion of Normandy. As the Higgins boats, vital to amphibious operations, were designed, built, and tested in New Orleans by Higgins Industries, the city was the natural home for such a project. Furthermore, New Orleans was the home of historian and author Stephen Ambrose, who spearheaded the effort to build the museum. Ambrose also wrote a book entitled D-Day in 1994, which describes the planning and execution of Operation Neptune, which was launched on June 6, 1944.

It is impossible to finish everything in a day. The tickets are reasonable for a museum of this size. You are basically getting entrance to a multi museum. There is a short simulated train ride where you are assigned a world war hero and you follow that person’s story throughout the museum. It is kind of scavenger hunt. You can also access the information you gathered from your home computer. There are also several museum shops with a good selection of items for purchase.
