You can view the different instruments used to administer vaccines, medicines, surgeries and more.Theres also a really cool collection of vintage eyewear on the second floor! Would def recommend if youre into the sciences or just seeing how fd it was to go to the doctors during this time period (did I mention metal catheters and brain drills?) Go check it out!

After a road trip from the east to the west coast this was absolutely our favorite tour. We stopped in during a downpour in 19 and the docent had incredible energy (let alone flare) which captivated a thoroughly packed audience. There are plenty of devices with absurd historical uses which will keep you thinking/talking about long after you leave. Dont miss out and dont forget to tip (especially since admission is so cheap).

We had our wedding at the Pharmacy Museum in October 2019. Not only is the courtyard absolutely amazing, but the staff was beyond incredible. I have a lot of favorites about this place, but I loved that we could pick all of our own vendors and really tailor the wedding to our personality and choices. Another thing we loved was having access to the entire downstairs for us and all of our guests, and we really got to make it our own; and what a beautiful background for a wedding! The wedding party also has access to the upstairs area, which is another little gem for photos. If youre looking at spots for a uniquely special and very New Orleans style wedding, look no further!

I am highly impressed by the management and services provided by the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum. We had our wedding and reception here in February 2020. Since we live out of State, we booked this venue online without ever seeing it in person. Needless to say, I was super nervous about our decision in the beginning! However, after our very first call with the Pharmacy management, our minds were immediately put at ease. Stephanie, Liz, and the entire staff are so friendly, responsive, and downright organized! They sent me everything I asked for – including multiple photos, videos, a recommended vendor list, and a detailed floorplan. They were on top of anything we needed and made sure that our wedding went off without a hitch.I was slightly concerned about the transition of the space from the ceremony to the reception but even that went seamlessly. With the help of our wedding coordinator’s team, the guests were moved into the museum immediately after the ceremony to grab a drink and explore the exhibits while the space was flipped for the reception. It really was perfect. From the moment we saw the venue in person we were in love. The courtyard is truly magical. It has a special historic look as well as elegant and personal. We really didn’t even need to bring in any decorations because of all the natural beauty in the space. My husband and I are extremely happy with how everything turned out and we have heard nothing but nice things from our guests about the museum. I highly encourage future brides to check this place out, you will not regret it!

My cousins who are both pharmacists requested me to take them here. They both like the places and spent about an hour here walking around and read the history. However, I was not into the medicine history and I could have done with the place in less than 10 minutes. It has a lot of nice things to see but nothing is so cool that I would tell people to come and see it. I can read the history online so honestly why do I need to pay $5 to read something that is available online and on YouTube. If you are a pharmacist, you will probably like it. We passed by the windows of this museum a few dozen times on my visit to the New Orleans French Quarter over Thanksgiving week. Each Time I thought to myself, This looks like a neat place to check out. But each time we had somewhere else that we were supposed to be doing. On our last day, we took a cemetery tour in the morning. After the tour, our guide recommended the Pharmacy Museum as a good addition to the graveyard. We didnt have to be to the airport until 2, so we went straight there. And I am glad that we did!It is quite frightening what people considered as medicine back in the day. It didnt take us long to go through it. and it was only 5$. well worth the price of admission.

I may be biased as a nurse because I already have an interest in the medical field, but this place was great. Its only a $5 entry fee and there is an amazing collection of not only historical pharmacy items but all types of medical devices. This place is two stories packed with so much to look at. Each display case has information cards explaining the history and uses of the items. You could spend hours in here trying to read it all. The site itself has the history of being the very first licensed medical practice. Definitely worth the $5. They offer a standing tour on the main floor and talk about the history and treatments and snake oils of the past. I didnt stay for the whole talk because the room was very crowded and didnt actually include a tour so to speak. Just standing wherever you can fit in and listening for 45min to an hour. The display cases do leave something to be desired, many items are on shelves low to ground and it made it difficult to take in the whole exhibit. Also, some of the info cards are in small print and multiple paragraphs long, so you had to be close to read it and then end up occupying real estate that other people were trying to see as well in a busy spot.Definitely worth it though. If youre looking for an inexpensive and intriguing place, this museum is it.

As a massive fan of the Sawbones Podcast, when I saw this museum on the map preparing for a conference trip to NOLA, I Knew it was the one stop I absolutely had to make and I had to bring my friend who had introduced me to the medical history podcast. We ran about this tiny museum overjoyed seeing all the patent medicines and crazy cures we’d heard about on a beloved podcast. I highly recommend this adventure for anyone visiting NOLA and if you’re coming with kiddos I’d probably say plan ahead. It will likely be much more fun for kids over age 8-10 who can read the signs and info but also there is so much PACKED in a small space this is not a read everything museum, it’s more of a “find something you think is Crazy and cool, read about. And then excitedly tell you siblings about this crazy thing people did!” If you’re coming from far away and have a flight/ car ride I’d even try use some time to share some more visual-accessible medical history with younger kids like videos about how sodas started out as medicines or old patent medicine songs (ie the Hadacol boogie). Encourage kids to think about times they’ve been sick and what kinds of things parents/doctors gave them to help, then try explore the museum and find out how doctors in the 1920s would have treated that same sickness. I think this museum could be a quick in and out especially with tweens/teens if you try to approach it like a normal museum but with a little primer to medical history on your journey into town it can really show the absolute madness of medical history as well as how far we’ve come in our treatment of children our development of vaccines, and how women are treated in medicine (the obstetric exhibit Blew my mind!!! And all girls 13+ should have an opportunity to really absorb it).
