Perfect scenic little drive to East Texas, on Highway 146 between Liberty and Livingston. Frequent wildlife sightings, beautiful pine trees in different stages of growth, open fields with freshly bailed hay. Much more relaxing than battling I-59! The foliage is just now slipping into its brilliant fall colors in the last few weeks.

Ill have to come back when this place is open to give it a proper review. The knobby knee trails at the liberty municipal park were very interesting today. Go there to see my review.

This was a memiriable day, gathering for a friend s memorial. Catching up with friends from our past(1988 ) back in the day

The Federal Government should not own this land. They do not maintain the road or parking lots satisfactorily. They do not police the place and taking of game as they are paid to do. If a person gets stuck in the mud on their way in there, none of the towing company will help them more than 100 feet off the main highway. If they would maintain the road, all could be forgiven.

This refuge is predominantly heavily wooded wilderness, both bottom land along the Trinity River and pine forests. There are a number of trails. This refuge is foot traffic only. Its a wonderful quiet place.

Heat wave not withstanding, an unusual wildlife refuge. Our visit was prompted by moth night out but we wanted more and chose to walk some trails in the unit next to Liberty Municipal Park. Saw one feral hog and lots of spiders. Breezes near the pond made the heat more tolerable, deeper into the woods was more still and hotter. These woods are in bottomland so best walked after a dry spell.

We took our grandchildren to the moth night, the discussion was very informative the atmosphere was relaxed and the speaker was really well spoken which is important to me. My grandchildren had a wonderful time asking questions and getting answers. We had a beautiful time!
