I have worked with Cindy for about 6 years. I dont work at her location but I have worked alongside her and she has helped me with many of my wildlife rescues since I mainly focus on domesticated animals. Shes very driven and if you cant get her on the phone its because she is busy but I promise you she will always call you back... Shes very super nice and 100% about the animals and there well-being

Cindy, Andy, and a limited staff personally care for the birds here on Big Talbot. They get over 300 emails, texts, and calls per day!!! You must bring the bird to them, or to the nearest Vets office, first, if the bird is in need of immediate care. Sometimes the Vet can perform a necessary life saving procedure and then will refer the bird to BEAKS. This is an amazing bird emergency and care, plus recovery sanctuary. Take A1A into Big Talbot Island and turn down Houston Avenue, drive over 1 mile down the dirt road, to find the gated entrance.

Two Mourning Dove chicks were found in their nest while a diseased Water Oak was removed from our yard. I called and left a message and was called back within minutes by a sweet lady who told me to place them in a box and bring them to the sanctuary. Wonderful and caring staff!

Very helpful with assisting me. A large hawk flew into my window breaking it and doing harm to itself. My first instinct was to put it out of its misery but I picked up the phone and called BEAKS. Glad I did. They took possession of the bird and are giving him the treatment and attention he deserves.

Took a few times to get a answer but sweet woman answered. There are three drop cages outside the gate. So don’t hesitate to leave your injured birds in the cages if they don’t answer or aren’t open!! They accept all hurt birds which is AWESOME. Need more people like B.E.A.K.S in Jacksonville area.

I would leave no stars if possible. Found a injured baby bird and was referred to call BEAKS and no one has answered or tried to return any calls, weve left voicemails and even tried text and got no where with it. What good is this place for unless you catch them at their convenience?

I am sure Cindy, Andy, and their understaffed facility cares a lot about birds and the wildlife which is great good for them! I love wildlife and I would do anything to protect them I would take injured birds here definitely. But I dont recommend working here though. In fact, I thought it was a perfect opportunity to do an internship there for school especially since I am majoring in Anthrozoology and minoring in psychology. But it did not end up so well. They dont care about their staffs work condition they dont wear proper gloves to put on to do the dishes with about 10 percent (the whole bottle) of cologne and they cover it up with water. Also they have a man fighting rooster that lives on the premises which is great but not so good if you dont want to get kicked by the rooster and all they say is You deal with it, we all get kicked by him. And I am over here thinking WOW thanks so much for the advice! When I started working there my first few days were Great Andy and I discussed with that they do husbandry work meaning cleaning dishes, enclosures, and feeding out and watering. Since it is more of a rehab facility for injured birds. So since I was a anthrozoology student I was hoping I could do half and half cleaning. Like cleaning dishes and enclosures and hopefully if I finish by 11am I could leave some room to help one of my co-workers move birds to one enclosure to the next, or help them release a bird or anything that involved reacting with an animal. But it didnt work out like that all they had me do is doing dishes and just that at first I was kinda complaining about it yes, but then I did my best to try to get it done and they just rushed me. But anyways long story short..They are disrespectful, and they dont care about you especially when you walk on their premises. The only thing I recommend you doing is dropping off the injured bird and leaving.

VERY NASTY WOMAN WITH A BAD ATTITUDE. I cannot believe this person!! I am disabled and found an injured crow in the middle of the road near Beaver St and Chaffee Rd. I wanted to know what I could do and she was very nasty and told me I can ONLY take it to a certain vet off of Ft. Caroline Rd, or bring it to her. When I TRIED to explain my circumstances and asked how I could just care for the bird until I could make arrangements, I was told BRING HIM TO THAT VET! Then she yelled at me that Crows are protected migratory birds and it would be illegal for me to try to care of it at all that I need to either take it to that vet or put it back where I found it (back in the street to get hit by a car!). Then she proceeded to tell me ALL Her personal problems with lack of funding and time while yelling at me the whole time and then hung up on me. I would not want this person caring for a cockroach!! I will NEVER contact them again, My family and I will continue to care for animals we find, but I will NEVER refer anyone to B.E.A.K.S. in Jacksonville, FL again!! If I could rate this with No stars I would but I am required to give at least 1.

Cindy was amazing! My husband hit a wild bird with a golf ball by accident. Our vet recommended BEAK and Cindy took him in on Sunday night without hesitation. She truly is a Godsend. She said the birds wing was broken so he won’t fly again but he will live there safely for the rest of his life. We are so lucky to have found BEAK!

You’re useless. At least the baby bird made to the kennel but I’m not sure if they got it till next morning ...

Thank goodness for the amazing staff there at B.E.A.K.S! My sister and I stumbled upon an injured duck yesterday evening and wouldn’t be able to make it there until after they closed. Fortunately, we were able to get ahold of them before they closed and they said they would stay there until we arrived with the duck. They were so incredibly caring and I know that the duck is in great hands! Thank you all for what you do there! You’re all amazing! ~Ayren

Way back in the sticks, but theyre one if the only rehabbers in town. Orphaned/injured birds is what they do, nothing too big or too small. Theyre a small operation, so if you have the means to help, please do! Because of that, phone calls often go to voicemail, but they will get back with you eventually.

To be fair, it is a wonderful idea and Cindy loves those animals. They are stressed, strained, under funded, and over worked!! If this is the case, allow volunteers, allow people to help you help the animals. This is my major issue- how do you know the animals you leave there are being cared for? They generally dont let people on the premises. You should check to see if the animals are there and their condition AFTER you drop them off! To my knowledge, the birds get very minimal medical care and do not get treated for major injuries. I dropped off several baby ducks to be cared for or humanely euthenized, but when I returned, they were all gone! I got the idea from something they said that those birds were fed, and probably fed alive, to the larger birds of prey! I cant tell you the HORROR and ANGER I felt knowing that I may have delivered those little birds to be torn apart by other birds! BEAKS does do some good, there is no doubt, but leaves much to be desired. I encourage everyone to discuss opening the facility to others. I believe they are so underfunded, they dont want to draw attention to things that may not be up to standard and risk shutting down, but without support, the animals suffer. PLEASE, do not drop off badly injured animals!!!!! It would be best to pay a small amount to have them euthenized in a veternarians office than to have them suffer for days or even weeks locked in a cage before dying!! Some veternarians will euthenoze badly injured wildlife at no cost to you! Donate when ypu drop off, dont take these organizations for granted, they exist on donation and 20.00 or 30.00 to have peace of mind should be nothing to most Americans, who typically dont help anyone with a dime of their money, but who expect help and funding when something happens to them.

Thank you B.E.A.K.S. for all you do! I found an injured mourning dove in my backyard, and Cindy met me later that same day to take him back to B.E.A.K.S. She could immediately tell he had something stuck in his throat and was starving to death because he couldnt eat. I called a few days later, and he was eating and doing better! This bird would have died without B.E.A.K.S. For those who dont know, B.E.A.K.S. is totally run by volunteers. So appreciative they give their time and resources to save these birds!!
