What a fun time! I expected some educational but stuffy chat about old knick knacks. Instead, we got a fantastic tour by Collin the Butler. He brought to history of the mansion to life without sensationalism. We laughed and felt empathy for the long departed past residents of the mansion. There were quite a few things I didnt know both about the Vaile Mansion and the Victorian era in general. Absolutely enjoyed it. I figured wed go once since we live here. That was worth seeing many times.

An amazing attraction! For certain a must see if you are in history, architecture, fashion or all of them! Guided tours offer insights into Mr. & Mrs. Vaile and their life and times. So interesting to see how they lived so lavish so long ago. The mansion is decorated seasonally, youll want to be sure to see it over the holidays. Every nook and cranny is adorned with something for the holidays.

A very interesting place of history. Their is a lot of history here. The house was built for Colonel Harvey Merrick Vaile and his wife, Sophia. Vaile was born in Vermont in 1831; he graduated in law from the University of Louisville and moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1859, before finally settling in Independence in 1870.

Interesting. Kind of like visiting your great great aunts house! We were excited to visit what promised to be a fun, interesting destination. Unfortunately, the volunteer staff were not open to giving us a tour, so we made our way around the house in about ten minutes. We were given some complimentary passes and I think because they didnt see cash that we were sent off on our way without the benefit of a tour. A disappointing experience. Could be a much better one.

Beautifully restored home with ceiling paintings throughout!Tour guide was simply okay, definitely not the most knowledgeable one available. I could have learned more by reading the plaques in each room. The past I would rate lowest is the exterior landscaping. Shrubs and bushes are overgrown and obscuring statues. It was disappointing to walk the grounds and see things in a shabby shape.

I had the most wonderful tour at the Vaile Mansion in Independence, Missouri! I was referred to this Home sight by Gary Sheridan the volunteer coordinator when I visited the old Courthouse on the Square. My tour guide was an exceptional woman named Sandy. Her knowledge of the home, history, stories about the ownership, the furnishings and fixtures, was so informative I felt I was a part of the past. And all for $6!!! Are you kidding me!Plus free parking, though I parked free at the square and walked to the mansion. I detoured along the walk to the Ginger Rodgers home, but it was not open until Wednesday.

Vaile Mansion is a beautiful historic home near the square in Independence MO. Restoration has been beautifully and thoughtfully done, even referring to historical documents to repaint the ceiling designs. This place is well worth a visit. Daytime only.
