This was a great little stop. They have a post office, church, cabin, and farm house. Live animals are fun, and the gift shop had a bunch of really great and interesting things to check out.

Sweet spot to see how the Ingalls lived on the prairie. Nice farmhouse gift shop. Recreated log house in the correctly researched location. Pas original hand dug well. A post office and school were great also. I enjoyed a conversation with Rhonda in the bookstore about the Ingalls travels and their family relationships.

This is a neat little place. The entrance is hard to find as its hidden behind a line vehicles in their parking lot on the far north end of the property. Its good for family and a good history of the Ingalls familys journey across the plains. Seems to be a busy little place, with employees dressed in period clothing. A nice little pit stop in the middle of nowhere. Worth stopping at.

This is a must see, short stop! If you have ever read Little House on the Prairie than you must stop and see the property. It is a replica of the original, but really brings Lauras experiences to life. There is a cute gift shop and restrooms available. Glad we stop to see this piece of history!

I think that if anyone has read the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, one ought to visit this place. Its easy to get to, and has decent parking. Its a collection of buildings from the area, none of which have anything to do with Laura and her family. They do have a replica of the type of house she and her family may have lived in, but there is nothing in the signage, etc. that suggests how the museums curators made their decisions. In the end, if you want fiction, an image of Lauras stories, then this is a good place to go. It may revise the images you get from the pilot TV series, for example. The area is not grasslands, it is bright green and forested. If you want history and broader contexts, this is not the place for you. I wish the museum had more about the region.

If you grew up watching Little House on the Prairie TV series or enjoyed reading the books, then this is a must see place. This place is pretty special. We haf the opportunity on the way home from Oklahoma to stop by and see the Little House (it actually is not the real little house but it is a replica of what it looked like). When we went there was no one there due to the fact that the visiting times were off season (it begins April 1st). However you can still walk the grounds and see the attractions from the outside, but you cannot go inside any of the things there since it is all locked. So they have the cabin from little house, they have an old post office from the time period and the school house. In fact if you go there and look at what they look like, and watch the television show the schoolhouse and the post office look very similar to the likeness of the schoolhouse and the post office on the tv show. There are other things there as well. There are quotes from the book by Laura Ingalls Wilder. There is an old time plow and an outhouse. There are also picnic benches and beside Little House there is a barn with farm animals. Even in the off season it really is a special place. We will go back there in the Spring or the Summer and spend some time there for sure. If you have some time while you are traveling, or if you live in the area and have not attended it would be a good place to go and learn about the history of this place. It would also be good to take the children for a field trip about American history and literature. I recommend it

This is a lovely little museum off the beaten path near Independence, Kansas. It sit as close as possible to the historic site where Laura Ingalls Wilders lived as a child, from which she drew inspiration for her book The Little House on the Prairie. A replica of the Ingalls log cabin sits on the property. The site also features a school and post office which were moved to the site for preservation purposes, plus it has a gift shop. Admission is $3 for adults and I think $1for children. Well worth the trip!

This is a neat little place. If you know anything about Little House on The Prairie, youll enjoy this.Only thing is that the log cabin wasnt finished, which shouldnt be a big deal except they barely had the walls up and had been working on it for two weeks. Dont know what would take them that long or why it needed rebuilt again.

Costs 3 dollars for adults and 1 dollar for children. They did not have furniture in the little house yet. The little how is what they think it would look like. For 3 dollars a person I was hoping for more. The only thing that was original was the well but you cant see down it or see a picture of what it would look like. They put cement on top for safety reasons. I feel like a plixyglass would be better than cement. The gifted shop was nice as well as the lady working in it.

TJ
Review №83

Beautiful little plot of land in southern Kansas, on the approximate spot where the Ingalls family set up their claim in disputed Osage territory. Theres a great reproduction of the log cabin Pa (and Ma) built, a period-specific one-room school house, a local post office that wasnt functioning during the Kansas books, but shortly after; as well as the actual preserved hand-dug well Pa and a neighbor nearly died digging. The self-tour is well marked with interesting signage, and theres a donation box to help keep the place spiffy. Its not as involved and engaging as the working Homestead or the city historical sites in Nebraska, but if your family is a Little House fan, its a great stop if youre anywhere near the area.

This is a charming Little museum on the prairie (pun intended). It is very informative, and located on the land which Laura Ingalls Wilder and her family actually lived. Several buildings, many quality artifacts, some livestock, and very reasonably priced. $3 for adults. Show up in the cool of the day because only the Farmhouse/gift shop is air conditioned. Dog friendly, restrooms available.
