Tallest statue to a war hero in the world, and for great reason. This may not seem like much of an attraction but there is so much to learn here that every Texan should experience. They staff ops so friendly and they love to educate. My kids actually ignored their phones for an your and learned something important. Go here, you will not regret standing in the shadow of greatness.

Not as impressive as I thought it should be. The area is so small you look up his legs. Its impressive that we have it. Its the tallest hero statue in the world. It just needs a better setting!

Its a statue of Sam Houston. Enough said. They also have some picnic tables, a bathroom, and a gift shop that sells ice cream bars and museum quality gifts.

Sam Houston is literally Larger than Life in this fantastic 50 foot statue they have dedicated to him on the side of the road in the Sam Houston Forest just north of the city of Houston I got out of the car walked around and was delighted to see a visitor center hidden in the forest behind the statue. You may have a hard time getting off the freeway right now (I parked on the side of the road) because theyve closed the exit but Im sure once it is open again they will enjoy many visitors. I would only suggest a sign close to the Statue to indicate how to approach the visitor center... or even a rest stop for freeway visitors would be good.

Close your eyes or turn away if you’re driving by this statue at night (or during the day), it will scare the life out you! I dread driving to Houston for the sole reason that I have to pass this 50 foot monstrosity. On the Northern end of Texas near the Oklahoma border, you will find the President Eisenhower monument, it’s nothing scary like this.

Nice wooded historical area doubles as a rest stop. It can be tricky to find but the visitors center is literally right behind the statue - its just hidden by the trees. If you pass it just use the next exit and use the 2 way access road on the same side of I- 45. Gift shop has many trinkets and some replicas of historical documents, including Texas Declaration of Independence and Republic of Texas currency.

When in the lower half of Texas, theres a road marker that will tell you when youre near the city of Houston, and its none other than a over 70 foot tall statue of Sam Houston. It is a sight to see and want to take a picture of. The grounds around it are good to take a small stroll around. When youre close by, take the chance to see it up close yourself.

I loved coming face-to-face with Sam Houston. The statue is wonderful as well as the visitors center and the gift shop. (We hit the gift shop pretty hard and would have left with more if I could have!) Great postcards! They have the regular ones that can be found at some Walmarts. But they also have some of Sam which are harder to find.

Thank goodness for old Sam Houston, My family thoroughly enjoyed themselves, such a scenic area and there is a whole museum & gift shop there too, kids can play a giant game of checkers & people were loving it, it was like a rest area that had a great giant statue as well, the entrance to the statue takes you through a cool little facility that has been made to be a landmark headquarters with restrooms & everything you need besides food, Pack your own lunch theres some picnic tables in the shade & a little miniature ampitheatre, I will try to make this stop a family tradition, & & lets pray that hopefully this statue wont be tore down for any stupid reasons!
