Beautiful spot of heaven outside Huntsville. Picnic areas, hiking and riding trails, scenic views over the land below. Cabins and camping sites. A great day stop as well. Not too busy in the fall with spectaular grand views of the fall change. Entry fee assessed at the front gate. 2 seniors and 2 veterans was a whopping 4 bucks.

Beautiful trails, plenty of levels of hiking difficulty depending on your level of ability, good campgrounds. Primitive campgrounds were easy to access and set up in (but come prepared that most are a good walk from any restroom facilities) and had reasonable access to the two nearest trails (which then interconnected with many others). Saw lots of wildlife: birds, butterflies, deer, and so on. The NA Japanese Garden was lovely and would likely make a beautiful place for a wedding. The overlooks had great views. There were plenty of quiet places to sit and enjoy nature and I loved my camping trip here!Only negatives I experienced were some broken glass in the campsite and a little trash on the trails, and that the firewood sold there seems to be kept in a unit exposed to the environment and so the firewood I purchased was damp and wouldnt light.

We drove in after a long day on the road. There are two approaches to the park... If youre pulling a trailer make sure you take the one without all the hairpin turns. Itll be easier! Great park. Very organized. Welcoming camp host. This photo is the overlook to the city. Pretty cool camping and looking down on a city.

Just got back from our camping trip at Monte Sano.... I cant say enough good things about this Park and camp ground. It is one of the most pristine parks I have been to. The grounds are very well kept. It has been so nice to get away and truly enjoy nature to its fullest. Thank you to the staff that keep this Park working and looking so nice. Sincerely, A Happy Camper! ️

This is an outstanding camp ground. The site I was on was almost perfectly level, I didnt even mess with leveling blocks. Make sure you hit the Home Depot down the road to get some heat treated firewood to bring with you though - the wood there is damp and expensive. Beautiful area with plenty of hiking and even a mountain bike trail (I didnt get a chance to use either but they were pretty popular based in the cars parked in the areas of the trail heads). I highly recommend this area.

Beautiful park with many things to do. As a word of caution for anyone attempting the 2 hour Holloway trail, please make sure to bring plenty of water, food, and cell phone battery. More people than you think attempt to do the trail with none of those and they are often found exhausted, completely dehydrated, and suffering from / about to suffer from heat injuries / strokes within the middle of the trail. It isn’t that difficult of a trail and can be completed by almost anyone but many people don’t realize how much fluids and energy you are losing on a 2 hour hike. Bring the necessary supplies. Always be prepared. Even the easiest of trails can become nightmares if you are unprepared and unpredictable storms hit out of nowhere. Don’t be that person who passes out in the middle, needs to have 911 called for them, and have the rescue crew go all the way into the trail to save you or have a helicopter crew pick you up.

Monte Sano State Park is a good Alabama state park. We used water and electric site for our camper. There are not very many full hookup sites. All of the sights are good; wooded with plenty of shade. Bath house was nice and clean. There are very nice trails to hike. The Japanese garden is great. My family really enjoyed our stay. There are plenty of attractions in the area, especially if you like caves.

During our visit to US space and rocket center we decided to drive through this park and we had no expectations. It was February winter time, but still the park was so beautiful. There is $5 per adult and $2 for kids ages 5 - 12, but its all worth it. The park is huge, very scenic and very well maintained.Super friendly people around the park, lots and lots of hiking trails, lot of view points, lots to see around within driving distance. There are campground, cabins, museum, observatory areas, amazing spot for bird watching, then there is Japanese garden. The restrooms clean and well maintained.Very happy with our visit and sure to come back!

Fantastic camping area! Sites were very clean and the restroom/shower/laundry building was spotless! The added electrical and water at the site really came in handy. The site was large and accommodated our 2 room tent without issue. We only stayed one night, but the check in and check out process was smooth. We will definitely be planning another (longer) excursion.

A great place to go hiking either by yourself or with a group of people. $5 per person to enter. They have trails with varying degrees of difficulty. I saw many people walking and hiking but I also saw a good number of people mountain biking. I went in the fall before the leaves fell and it was difficult to see out on the horizon but the view under the tree canopy was still worth it. There are rock shelves and look out points.

I should rate as a 1 star so no one else will go, but I have to admit that this place has become one of our favorite go to places for RV camping. Top notch camp store and friendly folks. Verizon coverage gets a 1-2 star, but that makes it nice to unplug. Incredible trails and views, which I would say, makes it one of the better gems in North AL.

Monte Sano offers a number of trails that vary in length, difficulty, and views. Some trails allow bikes as well. We love to go for a hike here with our dogs and try out different trails. This is a beautiful park and well worth visiting. I do caution that the roads into the park are narrow, steep and curvy but doable. One VERY important warning. If you are pulling a camper. Follow the directions on their website, NOT your GPS. Your GPS tends to lead you up the backside of the mountain which is not allowed for anything other than the smallest of campers. It has one switch back turn that is so sharp youd need borh lanes to get around. Most sites are 30 amp with water (no sewer). 95% of the sites are easy to park on. Enjoy!

Beautiful state park. Not my favorite, but a good place to visit. Went for the arts and crafts fair today, it was amazing!! They had over 150 booths set up with everything from fiber, wood, steel, jewelry, painting, photography and so much more. There were so many one of a kind items here! The port-a-potties were cleaner than the restrooms, I recommend using those. There were a LOT of people in attendance and only three or four stalls in the latrines, its easy to see how they can get dirty quick.Food options were slim but decent. There was a BBQ truck, a truck with a variety of food and a gyro truck. Plus all the sweet stuff. There was a huge playground and activities for the kids. Pets were allowed on leash. There werent too many places to sit, I recommend bringing your own chair. But it was an amazingly great time!!!!

My girlfriend and I recently went to visit this state park in Alabama while on vacation to visit her father. Our original plan was to simply check out the view of Huntsville from the peak, however we opened the geochache website and discovered that there was one hidden with in the park. We spent nearly an hour hunting this down until we finally found it. :) It was an excellent adventure and a fun way to see the park.

I have always enjoyed hiking and Monte Sano definitely is an amazing place to visit, see and experience. Facilities are clean, grounds are well kept. The staff are kind and helpful. The scenery is the best stuff of God. We loved Monte Sano so much we were married at the lodge 6 years ago. Our family loves it and so does our, now, 3 year-old. This is the place we think of when we think of special events, bringing our camper, taking special event photos and being the closest we can get to God, on Earth. Any entrance fee is used for upkeep of the property and is more than worth it. $5 per adult, $3 for students, $2 for children 4 and over (I believe.) There are public bathrooms on premises and the camp grounds are well taken care of. Please throw your trash in the garbage cans and be kind to the people working the entrance. They are not there by force but by choice to help. They do not get enough thanks for all that they volunteer to do!

Definitely want to go back and see and hike more of the trails when I have more time.. it is definitely beautiful and I cant wait to get back to it. Some of the most beautiful scenery Ive seen in awhile, trails full of luscious greens to vibrant colors of miss on downed trees, to mini cliffs that you can scale up, there is something for each and everyone to do at this park. My Great Dane, my girlfriend and I went to the hikers parking lot area for our hike. I was pleased with it. The trails aren’t so bad, but you do need to watch out for branches and loose roots, you can easily trip over them and hurt yourself. The trails are peaceful, only thing that truly bothered me was just the fact that you had to stop and yield to the bikers coming through pretty often. So at times it’s almost too much. But besides that, the views are amazing. It’s peaceful. I had fun.

This was our first time at a campground with a truck but it was inexpensive with beautiful surroundings and nice bathhouses. You’d have thought we landed in a spaceship based on some of the reactions we got as we drove in. One guy even said, “Hey, that’s not a camper,” as we drove by. We had some trouble with our newer 30 amp power cord and their old style boxes so the park staff loaned us a cord. They also made sure we knew which way to come in with our tall truck so we wouldn’t have clearance problems. We’ll be back.

There was a group of young adults blaring music on this beautiful hiking trail. I didnt say thing... but it did make me sad. I love hearing the wilderness and those people were playing their music too loud. Also when they were leaving they blared it through their car speakers v e r y.
