What a fascinating place! The inmate art was just incredible. Seeing real murder weapons and daily items from jail life was something my 10 year old loved. And old sparky was a great conversation starter about all sorts of aspects of capital punishment and justice. My kid and I stood and talked about it for about 20 minutes, history, morality, how would that feel, etc. It was something I did not expect a 10 year old to really be into. The gentleman at the counter was very kind and we had the museum to ourselves, since covid is keeping crowds down a lot of places. Mask is required if you visit. Enjoy seeing life on the inside.

A very interesting museum to visit for roughly 3 hours driving from Dallas area. Make sure to leave early to get there on time, they open from 12-5 on Sunday and we only had 30 minutes to see everything. It is not a huge place but there are so many things you can see/read when you are visiting. A pretty fun road trip to get out of Dallas area for sure.

The ladies were so nice. It was closing time but they let us look at there gift shop. The people in jail make leather covers for bibles. I should get one for my boyfriend. It sad that people chose crime and then have to do time. I wish they had better role models in there lives growing up to teach them how to be gentlemen.

There were a LOT of really interesting exhibits ranging the entire history of Texas prisons, lots of really detailed information. Many of the items included stories about them. Admission is very reasonable at $7 for adults and $4 for kids 17 and under. The ladies working there were very friendly and helpful and werent in the least bit daunted by the large group of teenagers I brought with me. I would definitely recommend!

This place was so cool! There is a lot of reading to do so definitely go really early! The exhibits are amazing and you can tell that there was a lot of work put into them. The place closes at 5pm and if you work in the prison system you get in free. Kids are 0-17 years of age and cost $4 to get in. Adults 18+ cost $7. There is a gift shop with many different things to choose from. It ranges from coffee mugs to t-shirts to leather works and even has some things made by actual prisoners. The prices were moderate to me with some things being reasonable and some being over priced but all in all it was an amazing sight! Hope to come back soon!ALSO DID I MENTION THAT THEY HAVE THE ELECTRIC CHAIR, OLD SPARKY !!! You cant touch or go near it but there is a whole write up on it and it is out for viewing only. This was the highlight of the experience for me! 100% thoroughly enjoyed this and would recommend to anyone!

I think everyone should come see this prison museum. It teaches a lot if your willing to learn and read about . Parents should talk to their children about disciple and self control. Consequences are very serious. Should visit. Just pray for your children and your generation to find Gods will in their lives at an early age. Disobeying brings destruction to life. Its very sad.

Interested in the history of Texas prisons? This is an engaging, quick glimpse at the clothing, industry, contraband, and living conditions of prisoners since the mid 1800s. Plan to spend about an hour reading the placards and viewing historical artifacts, including Old Sparky. Kids love entering the mock prison cell and closing the sliding bars and riding on a wooden horse made by a prisoner in the 1970s. Easy on-and-off the freeway. Good value.

I was an inmate at Young Medical Facility. A TX PRISON so I had a unique POV here. To take the day trip here was my GFs idea. . Still cool exhibits with past officer and offender uniforms, another of the Texas Dealth Penalty present (lethal injection) and past...ths actual OLD SPARKY electric chair. Also exhibits of commissary items (out of date. They change but still similar)One of contraband weapons and tattoo guns, drugs and gonna do.One of inmate art with extreme creativity and talent. A rose made od toilet tissue and soap carvings and traditional inmate art. Only the best stuff. Also a sample cell that had a real desk with the same Hot Pot and clock radio TDC commissary currently sells.Complaint: I wish they focused more kn inmate life because we lived there... It wasnt a JOB it was our life. They also left out my unit altogether and focused on violent male units.Still a cool museum and I think it was only five bucks. The whole town had crazy stuff... Huntsville is a prison town. Tried to visit the infamous walls unit which has killed almost 200 people since 1984.
