I was hesitant to play here after seeing some of the bad reviews but quickly realized how petty some people are. We found a nice deal to play in the afternoon and absolutely loved the course. The staff was extremely nice and the course was in great shape; challenging as well! If you want to play a great course for the right price Id highly recommend.

Played last week. Course is nice. Lunch was great. Problem was at the desk. I felt Emily was rude and condescending. Needs better people skills for that job and should learn to be more respectful to seniors. Wont play again if she is at the desk. Some locals have told me they were treated the same.

This was my first time at the course and the experience was really great! The girl in the pro shop was so welcoming and sweet! She informed my dad about the different programs they have and made sure we knew that we get free lunch with our round. The bag drop men were accommodating and cared that we had a good time. The golf carts all have signs inside that remind everyone that golf is about having fun, learning, & no pressure! Seasoned golfers and beginners would both be welcomed with open arms here.

The bunkers have little to no sand. The cart paths are so horrible nobody uses them! When we commented to the manager, a young man calling himself the manager, he said, Well, you dont have to come back if you dont like it.! Really? Not a great way to run a business. The MEMBERS of that club are greeted with pleasantries in the pro shop, but the rest of us barely get a word of welcome. There are many times when there are no tees, there are never towels in the cart, sometimes they have no golf carts when we show up, three times the cart battery went dead out on the course, once we had a flat tire, so no wonder they cannot keep staff or increase membership. The grill is great, the fairways are fine, greens are very nice, but everything else makes it difficult to enjoy the experience. Both managers are very young, one male one female, and have zero business sense, seldom smile, and just dont care if your experience is positive. This is the least expensive golf course on the Island, but you get what you pay for! Dont bother.

Worst course on the island. Tee boxes are so dry you cant get your tee in the ground, greens are terrible, had to hit off mats on the driving range, they let some group out in front of us backing up our start time,, pace of play is five plus hours, no beverage cart on a 95+ degree day, what water is available tastes like ditch water and the staff is miserable. I would be too if I had to work at this place.Terrible place to play golf. Would be better to give the course back to nature. Its almost there already. I wouldnt play it again if you paid me.

I would like to share my story as to why I joined Bear Creek Golf course and they are like family to me. Over a year ago I was flying in and out of HHI looking at houses for me and my wife to buy and call HHI our home. Being an avid golfer choosing the right golf course to become a member was very important to me. Living in HHI Plantation I narrowed down my choices to the four wonderful golf courses within the HHI Plantation. Each course with their own unique character of golf holes. I choose Bear Creek because ever time me and my wife were in town after looking at homes the staff at Bear Creek treated us like family and made my decision very easy to call Bear Creek my home golf course. I want to say thank you to Nick, Emily, Tom, Julie, Demetrius, Gavin, Decker, Kiki, Joc, Conner, Chris and the rest of staff you are wonderful! I’ve seen the 1st class level of service this group provides to their guest. The food and atmosphere are awesome! They actually bring your food out to you on the golf course when you order it at the turn. I’ve never seen this type of service before and it made me smile. I’ve sat at the bar and heard the compliments from visiting guess “NO NOT MEMBERS” say how awesome they were treated and how they were impressed with the golf course and service. To my adopted family of BEAR CREEK KEEP UP THE GREAT JOB AND I THANK YOU ALL!

This private club in Hilton Head Plantation offers a challenging Rees Jones design (his first). The course is always in excellent shape and the greens are the best in the area. Five sets of tees allow players of all abilities to enjoy the course.Singles and couples, residents and non-residents of all ages are welcomed. Members come from the area and across the country and globe (Hilton Head Plantation residency is not required). Many organized events and informal playing groups mean there are opportunities for anyone to fit right in. An active social calendar allows members to meet fellow members and develop friendships. The no tee time and no tipping policies give members and their guests the ultimate in flexibility. Definitely worth checking out.

Nice course layout that will require you to think your way around your round. Greens were still recovering from aeration so putts were jumping and not rolling true. We should have been notified of this when making our tee time, but it wasnt a round killer. This is a Reese Jones design and as such has 76 bunkers on the course as that is his signature design feature. The disturbing thing however is that the bunkers were in dire need of maintenance. If you have a course that one of the primary features are the bunkers, attention to keeping them groomed should be a priority and not an afterthought. They looked as if they hadnt been raked in a month. The least that they could do is run the sand pro through them. Loved the layout and will give them another chance because of that, but theyll need to step up on the bunkers to see me again afterwards.

The course was an average shape for the time of year we visited which was May 2018. We booked a tee time and when we arrived there was a group ahead of us enjoying a pre-wedding stag. The starter let them go off apparently as a group of seven they were in front of us most of the day and we waited on every hole for a very long time. We called for a Marshall on two occasions he came out and told them they had to split up, he drove away they went back together as a group. We paid good money to enjoy a round of golf only to have a group of delinquent disrespectful young punks in front of us. However I blamed the golf course and the marshals after two warnings they should’ve said pick up your clubs get in your cart go back to the clubhouse you’re done. We went back at the end of the day and complained and after a confrontation and haggling they offered us a free round on the subsequent day. We were unable to take advantage of that because we were leaving the next day. We will never return. DO NOT support this unprofessionally run golf course.

We paid $79 and received a voucher for lunch and a drink - nice touch. Arrival was good - the cart attendants were friendly, as was the starter. We got to tee off early and played the front 9 in 1:45min. Great! Come to the turn? The wheels fell off. The club house/bar/restaurant was not open at 10:30am. We werent looking for lunch; just a drink and a snack. Oh well. We move to the 10th tee and suddenly there are 4 groups out in front of us we had not seen. Whatever, we thought. We played the front quickly so let it be. Finally, after 3 holes, we ran into a grounds crew member. He told us they let those playing 9 start on the back. What?! It made sense now - we literally waited on every single shot we took on the back 9. It was ridiculous. I played three other courses on HHI this week and never had this issue. We dont mind playing a 4-4:15 hour round. But, waiting on every single shot? Thats no good. The course itself was in nice shape, sans the bunkers. For as many as they have, they need to put some sand in them. The final comment? The folks that you could tell were members of this formerly private club, gave the outsiders the stink eye. Seems to me they would want our money in effort to keep them from becoming Rose Hill. Overall, nice layout, a nice staff, but some of the practices need some fine tuning....

We had the first tee time of the day. The bag boy clearly did not want to be there based on his attitude. The pro shop was still closed 20 minutes after they were supposed to be open. His response was they are kind of lazy on Sunday’s. The driving range looked like a disaster zone. The kid that worked in the pro shop waltzed up to open it two minutes before our tee time. There were three groups waiting to pay and go out. And when we said we were waiting for him his response was, “why?” The course was in decent shape. Then when we were done, I was waiting for the bag boy to clean the clubs and he never came. I finally asked him if they cleaned the clubs and he answered with an attitude that he was busy. At that point I took my own clubs off the cart, put the tip money back in my pocket, and left. All in all the course was in decent shape but the unprofessional and snooty staff just turned my whole experience into a bad one. I agree with a prior reviewer that there are way too many beautiful courses in the area to go here and be treated that way. Won’t return.

Not the easiest course on the island but a great treat! For the price, avoiding Bear Creek Golf Club would be a mistake. Able to get on at 8 AM on a holiday weekend with a great pace of play at about 4 hours. Greens are fast so be sure you hit the practice greens and enjoy the free range balls before the round. Fun layout and allows you to use every club in the bag and really think about your shot selection. Course was in great shape, will continue to visit when I am in town.

Course appeared to be beautiful but we were so mistreated by the bag boy and tee time starter that we left before playing. Snobby and unfriendly to say the least. The food also wasnt worth the money. There are far too many places to play golf on the island for the staff to act as if they could care less that you chose there. Well never return.

My wife and I have been coming to Hilton Head for many years and have played most of the golf courses in the area.Bear Creek was formerly a private members club, but under new ownership substantial investment has already been made and plans are already in place to make further improvements to what is already a first class golf course with 18 well designed holes and the best greens on the island. We purchased a two month full membership package which has proved to be excellent value giving us unlimited use of the course, driving range, restaurant, the opportunity to play in competitions and attend organised events.Management and all staff are extremely professional and courteous making the whole experience very enjoyable. We will definitely return in 2017.

The Golf Course was in great shape! The fairways and tee boxes were in great condition, the greens were elevated and and ran at a pretty quick pace. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The only concern we had was when a kid in a house on the course ran out and stole one of our golf balls. However, we called the Pro Shop right after it happened and they took care of the situation and actually gave us three balls from their own pro shop. Would definitely play again and recommend as one of the best on HHI.

Great staff and classy little club. Fairways were perfect. Great pace of play and good traditional layout through the pines. Lots of housing but most is set back in the trees and does not affect play. 16-18 is a very nice finish. Would recommend and I look forward to playing again.

I love the fact that there are no tee times. I just show up and wait from 0-10 minutes to tee off. Most rounds for a foursome take 3.5-4 hours which is great for me. The course and especially the greens are in great shape.

What a joy. The best greens around Hilton Head...fast and smooth. Call the Golf shop and a visitor might be able to get on. This was Rees Jones first private course design. He renovated it in 2005 and it is great from back tees and forward tees.

The flip side of no tee times is that, if you do want a game or great fellowship, simply show up at one of the usual times like 8:30 or noon, toss your ball in the hat, and play. If the weather or your aching back is not up to expectation, dont come. Further, Ive never seen a course wherein every green is so well protected, many for nearly the entire 360 degrees. All are elevated and water is in play on 12 holes---what a nifty test of your whole game. Chuck Duvall MD

My two sons and I played Bear Creek in August and thoroughly enjoyed the layout of this course; lots of doglegs and interesting approach shots. Big hitters should leave the drive in their bag on a number of holes. For the time of season, the course was in reasonably good condition. Two critiques: no course maps on scorecards. Fortunately, I used my Golfshot app and that revealed water on a number of holes that were not visable to the eye. Second, the greens were fairly uneventful.Great customer service and Kirk in the pro shop was extremely helpful and friendly. This is a private club that allows public play and we were received a warm welcome and felt right at home.

While the greens were very, very fast and putted smoothly, they were almost dead in many spots. Much of the greens were more black than green with very little grass. The course could benefit from additional maintenance.

The guy that took our tee time was ridiculously rude. We had a couple of questions prior to the round and his response was, well clearly you just dont understand what I was saying on the phone. The round of golf was okay, except the ranger clearly didnt care about a slow playing 5some that was holding up play (yes, 5somes are allowed here apparently). And unfortunately, the service after the round was horrible. The girls are very friendly but dont have a clue about serving and bartending. Being a former bartender, maybe Im being a little critical, but basic cleanliness and service edicate was neglected.Overall, cant imagine coming back here, way too many courses on and off the island that offer a better experience. Hope everyone has a better time than we did.
