Very nice people to worship with. Beautiful church. Lovely music and singing voices done by all ages. The Priests are one of a kind.

This is a welcoming parish. Services and Masses are beautiful and meaningful. Sermons are practical and enlightening. If you are looking for a Church to call yours, St. Joes in Hilo is it.

Just happened to drive past, after seeing the church with open doors I just had to stop. My wife and I went inside, what a beautiful house of our lord inside and out. I took several pictures. I am glad we stopped.

Excellent service in praise of God. Visitors were acknowledged and given a shell necklace. Very welcomed.

Its a Catholic church. We were downstairs using their kitchen area for a Celebration of Life luncheon. Homeless people came to eat and church workers didnt have a problem. It didnt bother me because my purpose was to help a friend who provided the luncheon for her uncle that passed. And my friend is a person with a huge heart so she had no problem feeding whoever came so who am I to complain! Plus there was more than enough food.

Beautiful painted exterior, warm friendly people, excellent priests and lay assistants. You will have a good overall worship experience here at Saint Joseph Church.

Very friendly the church staffs the priest and also church members. Most especially they allow us to do our mojulock youth group to participate for litergy and more stuffs to do at church. All these happening in our dear lords plan to his people.

Wonderful Holy Hour service (I was not expecting; I was just going to stay to wait out the rain, and stayed for the whole service).

Spiritual food longtime! Now heres a historical piece of downtown hilo!! This church along with across the street hilo church just breathe generations of families!! These structures have married, carried, held obituaries just to say the least!- I have to get that 90 percent of hilo went to these churches!! Footnote: Sunday early listen to the ringing of the bells!! Awesome!

The façade, windows, statues, and stations of the cross are all beautiful and well suited in a catholic church. However, the fact that everything is whitewashed, even the ceiling and above the old altar, sharply contrasts with, and depressingly degrades all the loveliness that is in Christian art. Whitewashing may be a appropriate for a 16th Century French Calvinist church, where it was purposely done to make it look non-catholic, but protestant iconoclasm should not be embraced and celebrated in a catholic church. Of course one may be forgiven for thinking this is not a catholic church at all, as some tragically faithless soul has sadly removed the tabernacle from the sanctuary, and hid it off to the left, therefore replacing our Lord with a potted plant (see photos). Even the cruciform is not safe, being lit from behind by a green neon light, similar to ones found in drinking establishments, rather than by a votive lamp; but of course the lamp would look out of place, since it would be representing the presence of the divine in the form of a potted plant. This church used to be very beautiful, but iconoclasm (or whatever sad word you choose) has utterly destroyed its spirit to the point where it has become a post-catholic parish in a formerly catholic church. Hopefully, members of the parish community can find a way to restore St. Josephs so that it will a catholic church once more.
