Nice forest. Has multiple types of trees. Rains a bit. Its outside so thats a plus. Plenty of fiddle heads if that is your thing. The prison was a let down though.

Beautiful place.... it was raining while we visited but it was especially pretty due to the raindrops everywhere and it wasnt too hot. Great plants, so many different kinds.... will go back!

Its a really nice stretch of highway. There is a couple hikes. And you also probably would like to gas out before you go on the long haul up towards Kona.

Great for catching a sunrise or sunset. Bring a towel and extra outerwear. Weather has its own mind and agenda. Bring a chair or picnic blanket too!

Beautiful, very long hike with some rough terrain.

Beautiful! Steep tree covered walls separate seven scenic valleys. I love the north valley (Pololu) in particular. Parking by the looks is sparse and the are no restrooms at the Pololu valley lookout. The trail into Pololu is steep and a bit muddy but short and clearly marked. This is worth a visit even if you only see the valleys from the lookout... They are unlike any other place on the Big Island.

Great place to get away from the hustle of city life.

Great for hiking, hunting & communing with Mother Nature.

If you cant visit Hakalau forest NEAR, this is a place to see Iiwii and apapaane. If lucky you may see more native birds.
