This is a wonderful beach for families with young children. No big waves crashing down, except by the sea wall. Plus if the tide is high you can swim there, otherwise too shallow, but perfect for the kiddos and the elders!

Wow such a wonderful beach for snorkeling and families with young kids. Shallow water so clean and clear.. We spotted so many turtles and fish here on a sunny Monday morning. Great location and good amount of parking is available. Also have public bathrooms and picnic tables. this is probably our favorite beaches on Hilo side. Highly recommend.

I have been going to this park since I was a child, bringing my children here was natural.. we love this beach, its fully friendly and the wall separating the beach from the open ocean makes me feel a bit more confident in letting my kids swim here. I give it four s because as a mother I still have worries for anywhere other then my house.

One of the clearest waters. Great for small kids because wall blocks the waves. During low tide theres lots of tide pools with opihi and hermit crabs and small fish. Near the shore sand is soft, but toward the Rock wall, the sand is full of rocks and coral.

Its quiet and really good. The water are calm and shallow for kids and beginners to enjoy. Theres not as much sea life to see compared.to other beaches, bit if you snorkel on close to the rocks and breakwater then you will see some. Bring water to hydrate, because the facilities are sparse. There are toilets and changing rooms and a playground for kids. Its easy to get into the water because the have laid down steps.

My favorite Hilo beach. Great place to take a picnic lunch, lots of parking, showers, easy entry into the water. Really good place to take children as its sheltered from the surf. Last time we visited, saw six turtles resting in the water! Go at high tide though- low tide is too shallow to swim around.

Great beach for small kids and families. Plenty of rooms are available for family activities like table and grill area. Grassy area behind beach is good spot for ball games and picnics . Sand-bottomod shallow cove is protected by a boulder breakwater. One of the safest swimming beaches on the Big Island. However, the pool is not as children-friendly as it has a rockier and deeper bottom and tiny Sea creatures.

Beautiful Hawaiian beach perfect for kids. Huge rock wall blocks off incoming surf. Great spot for anyone looking to experience the island beaches. Noticed coral death towards the far right of beach... Also spotted a beautiful honu in the cove as well. Truly magical location. Pics do no justice as it was rainy that day.

This is a great beach area for families. There is a section that is very shallow for young children still learning to swim, and it slowly gets deeper as you go further out. There are picnic amenities here as well as public bathrooms. Parking is on site and is usually not an issue. The beach is clean and attracts both locals and tourists. If you have kids, I would recommend this beach.

Three primary park areas offer easy access to large wading pools. A substantial breakwater keeps the wave action under control making this a good spot for keiki (kids). Numerous grills, pavilions, and toilet facilities make this park a favorite with locals and knowledgeable tourists. Come early for a parking spot.

It is okay, but I would recommend arriving early on the weekends, as this beach fills up fast. Parking can be tricky, and it wasnt as lush as Carlsmith beach a half mile away. Great for taking the littles to, to swim. When we went though, swimming was not encouraged due to the abundance of Jelly fish.

Big Island styling. Love this beach. Has a bathroom ample shower for rinsing off and intricate ecosystem beneath the water. Only drawback is the urchins & people fishing where youre trying to swim.I hope, with the pride & help of locals,we can keep it pristine. Please dont let this become another Oahu type beach, where the ocean smells like coconut tanning oil & the beach has to close down due to contamination.

This beach is designed for Keiki (young children) and old folks but is great for all. On low tide the water is ankle to knee deep. On high tide the water comes up to your chest. They gave a row of rocks that block the waves but still let the fresh water in at medium to high tide. A perfect spot for babies, children and seniors. They have facilities for changing and rest rooms. Showers on the beach and usually a shaved ice truck.
