So beautiful! 100% must see.Its a large area consisting of grass, pond, historic monuments and glimpses of the ocean. There is a large golden statue near the center, a Vietnam memorial nearby and snake like bridges connecting land masses separated by water. Its truly gorgeous. Many different splendid trees and moderately wild animals roaming. (If you have kids this might be an awesome place to let them run and exert that extra energy)Very relaxing atmosphere. Parking is plentiful and its all free!

Very pretty park with many cool things: fun bridges, Lots of friendly ducks and geese, fishing, nice pavilions for parties, etc. My only complaint is that usually you have to be wary of the vagrants. But thats basically an issue with most of the downtown Hilo .

“Da Park,as Wailoa River State Park is often referred to by the local regulars, is a place where one can find a quiet spot, perfect for a little alone time and inflection. But Wailoa Park is also a very social place where one can go and get caught in a colorful & enjoyable conversation. The beauty of Wailoa Park is diverse. Flora & fauna abound, and the river itself is always shining and active.I will give one word of warning, be careful of who you approach, as Wailoa River State Park is often a refuge for local people who don’t want to interact with just anyone. Aloha.

It is a pretty park for picnics. The county of Hawaii parks department rents the pavilions for weddings, birthdays and such too. I enjoy the view and the area. Easy access, & usually lots of available parking. Its an area that looks like a pond, but its near where the river goes into the ocean. Their are ducks, feral cats, & wild pigs in the area.

Good park to gather with friends or family for occasional event. It has the view and pavilion to rent out if needed. However, every once in a while you can spot homeless people hanging out here. Not the cleanest park in town but certainly not bad if I must say. Definitely can be more clean.

One of the largest and most beautiful, spacious city parks Ive seen. Part of this is due to the 1964 earthquake that wiped out downtown. They decided not to rebuild and instead made this park.

Beautiful quiet park with arching bridges, lots of ducks you can feed, a tsunami memorial you can visit, small to large pavilions, benches near the water, banyan trees to climb, and lots of grassy areas to play, sit or lie down on. There are a couple public restrooms at two of the larger pavillions. Some of the facilities are run down and some areas are very muddy and almost bog-like. There is almost always a lot of open parking spaces. Some people fish there and go out on the water with dingies. For the first time ever, I saw a sea turtle in the waters there and Ive been visiting this park since I was a little kid (Im 42 now).

Use to be a nice spot to relax near the ocean. My friend and I used to go for picnic lunch two to three times a week. But, as more and more homeless moved into the park, it became disgusting and dangerous. Have not been recently there except for organized functions. The homeless issue doesnt seem to be that bad. However, I would not go past sunset.

Was a hop skip and a jump from our hotel. Opportunities to swim and snorkel. Theres a diving platform kids love to jump off. Many fish and sea creatures are visible when snorkeling. Low tide is easier swimming conditions. Be wary of the sharp lava rocks under the water. Aqua socks are a good idea, gloves too if you tend to use your hands to steady yourself.

This is a nice place to spend some time during the day. The gazebos large and small are starting to show their age, but everything is functioning. The park in general is beautiful, a great place for family activities. Biggest negative is that it tends to be a gathering place for vagrants, and the police dont even make an effort to disperse their numbers. Do not go at dusk or later; as with many places, the safety disappears with the sunlight.
