I live on this island, and this is my absolute favorite spot. Only place on the island you can see Mauna Kea with a huge body of water underneath it. Simply stunning views. Also has immediate access to Banyan Drive (80+ banyans) & the largest Japanese Gardens in the U.S.

A great little island that jets out from near Liliuokalani Park and Gardens. Plenty of facilities, places to picnic, open green, great jumping spots and nice swimming and fishing spots all around. If you’re lucky, on a clear day, a sensational view of Mauna Kea to the north.

Mokuloa or Coconut island, Island of Life, or Healing Ilsland. Ancient Hawaiian lore says that if your swim around the island three times you will be healed of whatever ails you. Warriors would come here to cleanse their hearts. Local legend says the the Hawaiian God Maui hooked the island Maui with his giant hook and tried to drag it here. A piece of it broke off and thats what we are standing on today.

We ALWAYS have a good time here. Great place to bring the kiddos. Amazingly scenic view. Nice, calm beach area to float around in. Great place to throw up a tent and hang out all day. Theres a giant field to run in or play frisbee or throw a ball. Probably not big enough for kites, but a decent sized grassy area nonetheless. There are clean public bathrooms. A pavillion you can rent our for parties. Ample space to have an impromptu party for free. Someone had a hammock up today. Lots of tanning space. And again, the views are breathtaking. Also fishing. Not much parking, so you may have to walk a little ways from the park.

Extremely well maintained and beautiful. Breathtaking views of the bay and the mountains. Also a great place to swim without worrying about right water, as it is sheltered by the breakwater. There is a stone tower that the locals dive from.

Great teragami inlet to island conservatory. State park, carefully kept to an isolated cove of island fish and wildlife preserve. A modern bridge brinks the island to the isolation and privacy ventured there. Beautifully kept.

Lovely well maintained park with grass, covered areas, restrooms and showers and swimming. It can get pretty crowded on weekends and during events. Popular place for birthdays and parties. If you want one of the covered areas you need to reserve it through the parks department. Do yourself a favor and look up the history of this island before you go there.

Beautiful beach but.... those trees gatta go, good for shade but sucks if your walking barefoot which mostly everyone does, it hurts, and its uncomfortable to sit on if you have no chairs, other than that really good beach, oh must go early for parking.. parking lot is to small for a popular beach like that.

Almost 300 years ago a small group of Christians were sent here by Gods great grace, through two hawaiian converts. And boy did it take deep root. Thank you Jesus for your kindness to us. Yes, there were explotations by some, but welcome to the human race. But knowing Jesus, and his love you can or should know the difference. My Dear mother bought me here to Moku Ola 66 years ago. And as I come here after being gone for 62 years, I have nothing but choked up tears of gratitude to God for the wonderful memories of this place. My precious mother raised 3 children by herself, making 4 dollars an hour after 24 years with one company. She never accepted welfare and eas home with us ever evening. She worked till she wss 87. And went to be with Jesus at almost 93. Soo, I have nothing but praise and gratitute at 70 years old.

My favorite weekend getaway spot, while living in Hawaii. Great place to meditate. I couldnt visit Hilo side of the Big Island, and not visit Coconut Island. This is a great spot to relax, barbecue, walk, yoga, or release your inner child by diving off one of the platforms into the water.Another thing i loved about Hilo side are the sound of Coqui frogs, which I miss a lot! The sound of the Coqui frog gives me peace, and that overall feeling of being in Hilo, Hawaii.I have had the pleasure of visiting Coconut Island during Hilo To Volcano Ultra Marathon, Hilo Marathon, and a birthday weekend getaway from Oahu. This small island is what it is, and if you enjoy peace, it is actually that with Liliuokalani Park and Gardens outside to give you extra things to catch your eye outside of Coconut Island.Enjoy!
