Nice little park, can get busy at times. There are a bunch of life jackets to use if you forget yours. The walk around the lake isnt too long and well worn. Today there was a paddle board rental outfit with decent prices.A nice place to spend some time with the family outside without having to go to far from home.

Great place to take the family out for the day and even get some fishing in. Located right in the heart of Helena, it is not out of the way at all and certainly worth a trip even just to hang out for lunch. The view is really nice especially for being right in town that you would never even know.

We spend a lot of time here in the summer because its close. My boys love to bass fish here. The beach however is overrun by geese. The droppings are everywhere making it very hard to lay out a towel. They need to be dealt with. Even in Seattle when they had this problem they would spray the eggs so they wouldnt hatch to try to persuade them to not come back.

We visited from out of state and spent a Sunday afternoon at the lake. There is a daily $6 fee for non-residents. When we first arrived it wasnt very crowded and we enjoyed a picnic and swimming. Later in the afternoon if became quite crowded and people were using kayaks, rafts, canoes, large inflatables and paddle boards in the same area my young son was swimming. There were some people who became a little rambunctious with throwing each other, and their kids, around. If you have kids you definitely need to be very watchful when it becomes busy but overall we enjoyed our time.

Dogs are not allowed between April-October (read: any of the months when it isnt freezing). This information wasnt made readily available on their parks website, which led to a lot of wasted driving. It is fine for places to not allow pets, but make that knowledge available without them having to come to the site to find out.The area looked otherwise lovely, although crowded. It was very easy to find.

Ive enjoyed this place all my life. Theres an excellent trail for walking or jogging. The fishing isnt what it used to be, due to increased pressure, but its still a fun place to teach your children to fish. Please be careful! In the winter, ice thickness is inconsistent in the large pond due to the seven natural springs feeding it. The beach drops off abruptly and people have drowned here both summer and winter.I am a little frustrated though, by careless dog owners. Despite the free bags, there is a lot of dog waste near the trail. Park rules also require leashes at all times, but both days I went this weekend, unleashed dogs ran up on my leashed dog. Today the owner was nowhere in sight and the little red heeler was aggressive towards my mutt. But if theyd fought and my dog won, my dog could be labeled as vicious. The park doesnt allow dogs between April 15 and October 15 already, due to irresponsible owners ignoring the rules.

Spring Meadow Lake State Park is the crown jewel among all the local parks. It is close to town, so people who cant go too far afield on their own (kids, for instance) can get there on foot or by bicycle. The lake itself is also a gem - it is usually clear and it is always deep, cold, spring-fed and full of fish that everybody and anybody can try to catch.Helena is blessed with abundant parks and lots of nearby venues for outdoor fun, but compared to any other urban parks and fishing spots anywhere, Helenas Spring Meadow Lake State Park cannot be beat.

Spring Meadow is a great place for a walk, picnic, or both. More of a large pond then lake, has walking trail all the way around, with picnic tables and benches. Beware, dogs are allowed Oct-Apr, only; poopy bags provided or bring your own. Out of state license (other than MT), must pay a day use fee. Theres a pavillion to reserve for large gatherings and a fishing dock; dont forget your fishing license. Love to walk here, 3 trips around the pond makes for a good walk.

An old gravel mine turned in to a lake by hitting springs, this lake is a great alternative to trying to cram in to the crowded pools. Fishing is tough given the amount of chaos at the lake, but swimming, kayaking, or floating around are perfect activities for this small man made lake
