Love, love, love The Civic Theater! The performances are always reasonably priced and a ton of fun. There are really no bad seats in the theater. We watched Elf the Musical which was highly energized! An absolute riot!

Looks bigger than it really is, but seats were comfortable. Hosts revolving plays ranging from children friendly to adult only. We went to Avenue Q a while back and it was a great evening. Very funny show and good performance. Right downtown so its an easy walk to several eateries or bars after a show if you want a full evening out. Depending on the show recommended dress is semiformal to nice casual.

We went for their low sensory performance of James and the Giant Peach tonight. My son is autistic and we had so much fun. The volunteers and staff did an amazing job of making everyone comfortable. I cant wait to go back.

The seating and theater is a bit dated but still nice, however it does get really cold. I recommend layering up during the winter. The shows are beautiful with amazing talents. Definitely worth a trip.

A very quaint, vaudeville style theatre. You can tell they have put quite a bit of work into the restoration and upkeep of this historic theater. They even have old photos up of previous productions that have been on stage there. Overall, very clean but the rows of seats are a bit tight together.

Nice theater. Nice lobby. Typical G.R. folks. Saw Newsys (sp?). Acoustics could be updated but its a community theater so you get what you get.

The classes here are great! The instructor I have is fun and understanding, but will respectfully push your comfort zone in a way that causes significant growth.

I drive from Muskegon & have seen 2 shows here (My Fair Lady & Elf the Musical), and both were enjoyable. Ticket prices are reasonable with great stage views, and parking is accessible. Great costumes, set design, performers and vocals! #Kudos

While the theatre is beautiful and historic the show that I was in attendance at was not at all as advertised and there has been no desire to make amends for the false advertising.

A high quality community theatre. Every show is outstanding. The experiences offered to area youth provide valuable growth and exposure to the industry and professionals.

Our son takes classes and attends summer camp 2 yrs now. We love the education classes. He is 6 yrs old now and contines to love going. Classes fill up fast so you need to register once it opens up. Great staff!

I expected no less than the fantastic show we enjoyed. It was also fun showing the boys the photos of old shows including one that Im in from my days when I volunteered.

Attended The Little Mermaid performance. First time in this theater (new to City). Did not know what to expect. The performance, a musical really, was SUPERB! Very high caliber. There was a live orchestra. The restored, well maintained theater was very nice. The volunteers were courteous and helpful. This was a family event with many kids in attendance with their parents. They were dressed up and well behaved. I was concerned there for a minute. Neednt have been. Parking was easy. Just around the corner. Looking forward to the next performance. Did I mention that tickets were reasonably priced?

Im a little on the tall side so I would have liked a little more leg room, but overall the theatre is amazing

Love going to shows here! Make sure to get there early for better parking and in case you have any issues with your tickets if you are picking them up. Nearly every show my tickets had not been properly printed or set aside.

Smaller, local theater right downtown. Lots of parking (paid) close by. Shows I have attended have been good-very energetic, good voices and good stage settings. Price is very reasonable too.

Wonderful venue for seeing some true talent. This theater keeps getting better! Seats and sound are all great! If you havent been here in a while then you havent experienced it in its grandness. Great place for your next date!

I really like this theatre. I always sit in the balcony, but never feel to far away, and I can always see the whole stage. The casting and acting were great, as are the variety of shows they perform. The whole facility is very clean and well kept, even though its an old building with a lot a history. The volunteers are friendly and helpful as well.

The Little Mermaid play was put together beautifully. The actors were awesome and sounded fantastic with every song. My whole Family loved it and we all went home with smiles on our face. Even turned our 12 year old, who didnt even want to go in the first place. Watching her smile through the whole play was magical. Definitely a must see!!

Saw the newsies some time ago. The performance was amazing, and the seating was very comfortable. I have no reason to rate it anything but a good expierence. The only catch, is I hadnt anything to rate it as a phenomenal one either.

Very nice little theater that put on good quality performances especially when most actors are volunteers. Seats are more comfortable than other theatres Ive been to. Because of its size there really isnt a bad seat in the house.

Attended the performance of Little Women. It was very well done. The costumes added a nice touch. The cast all did a great job in creating their characters. Thanks for another relaxing evening at the theater!

Great place to get a taste of community theaters twist of Broadway plays. Its an intimate venue with seats anywhere in the theatre you can have a great view. The local talent pool runs deep in the greater Grand Rapids area.

We have had a wonderful experience here with our kiddo. She has loved kidsplay and the staff has been phenomenal with the children and in providing help during a reconstruction time as well. I also love that the meters are free on the weekends. Only thing I think they should add is a diaper changing station or table or something to help out when a waiting parent needs to change a dirty diaper. I have had to use a sitting bench in an empty hall and its a little silly that there is a family bathroom but no space for a baby to get changed.

This place is a great intimate theater! Took my mom to see My Fair Lady for her 73rd birthday. She said it was the best play shes ever seen in her entire life! And it was! Would definitely consider seeing another play there.

Just saw Mama Mia! It was amazing - they always do a great job, but this was by far my favorite!! We are lucky to have such high quality and reasonable entertainment!! Thank you to the Civic Theater and ALL the volunteers!

First time going to the theater, my sister took all her nephews (brothers & sister in-law) to go see a production of James and the Giant Peach. It was very well done, I would love to go back and see another production that they do.

Newsies was a great performance! Those actors were fabulous and some so young, great dancers a fun night.

Torreographer Thomas did an amazing job choreographing for Mamma Mia!! The show was sold out!! I have been attending shows since I was in high school back in the early 80s and have never been disappointed!! However, Mr. Torrey has been bringing it these days!!

It is a large but small theater. There is not a bad seat in the house. There are two spots for people who have large wheelchairs. I had one of them. There is a ramp to get to the bathrooms. The bathrooms are wheelchair accessible. Yea!

Ive been going to the Civic to see plays for over 20 years now. They always have great plays and the actors do a fine job.

Its great as a place to learn Im sure, I enjoy the performances well enough, they just arent as good as other performances Ive seen. If you want a really professional show, I would look somewhere else but overall I still enjoy watching the performances here

I absolutely love this theater. The productions here are almost always top-notch. Especially considering it is a community theater...not equity. Their talent pool is amazing ranging from performers and production staff all the way to stage crew and musicians. Staff has always been positive and helpful.

A live play beats a movie any night, hands down. The Civic is always a great place to be! Murder mysteries are not my personal fave but it was fun nonetheless.

Very friendly staff, and amazing that it Its all volunteers. Great local landmark that it kid friendly, with a great selection of plays, covering the very wide spectrum of genres out there, while still having namesyou can recognize. 10/10 from me.

Ive been drug to a couple of shows by my wife at the Civic. Both times I was dreading going, it just didnt seem like something Id enjoy. Ill admit, I had a great time, both times, the shows were very entertaining! Guys, if youre in the same boat I was, not sure about going to a place like this, do it, youll enjoy yourselves!

The talent his places pools is amazing. I only hope one day they will get paid for their work. Go see any show, and I promise even if they show is not your style, you wont be disappointed by the talent. Not to mention this theatre is an overall experience, it really is quite beautiful. Go treat yoself!

Great old venue (1903) with modern updates like an elevator and such. Wonderful productions. Amazing to see the talent the community has to offer.

Over a decade of shows seen here. Are all the shows themselves 5 star? No, of course not; however, they are many times such as the current My Fair Lady production. More importantly, this is a fantastic venue, replete with history and a great location with so many great dinner spots encircling it that you will be hard-pressed to pick one. The staff is friendly, the pricing is truly a value for the experience. Most shows begin at 7:30 P.M. with some weekend matinee options and productions usually run through at least a few weekends with Thursday through Sunday options at least. They also do amazing summer programs for kids and teens that are booked early and completely so if interested, look into it now. Adult acting classes are available as well. They also--little known--have terrific and unique packages for businesses a clubs that allow you to rent a very nice space with their catering or your own and you can combine it all in a package that includes tickets for you and your guests; great way to entertain clients or have a company outing or holiday party!

This is a relatively small venue, so every seat is good. I have seen quite a few shows here And they have all been excellent, including drama, comedy and musicals alike.

OMG, love, love this place! We participate in the school, have volunteered and gone there to watch shows! Its definitely to notch, we recently went to a Broadway show in NYC and its pretty darn comparable! The sets costumes and talent in these shows are great!

This is my most favorite theater in GR! The staff/volunteers are always kind and helpful. Ive about 6 shows here within a couple years. I love the shows they bring...Shrek, Sister Act,Akeelah and the Bee, Christmas Story and more. The casts usually pretty great and there are some real powerhouse singers that grace the stage. Parking is really easy. Either pay or park at a meter for me and get my steps in. I think its great for girls night out, kids night out and date nights. Next year Ill be a season holder for sure. Cant wait to see Steel Magnolias!

It was really professional even though there were many young people in the show!! The workers there were super helpful and I loved it there!

A great environment to watch the fine arts. Seating and spacing is comfortable and given the size, you feel close to the actors on stage.

Grand Rapids Civic Theater has some of the best talent in the United States. Its one of the largest voluntary theaters in the country and it puts on the best shows in the country.
