Parking can get limited during peak hours but otherwise a great natural area for hiking. One of the heavier trafficked and easier hikes available in the park. Bring a camera, water and a trash bag. Southwestern scenery is abundant here.

Well maintained area for hiking and biking. Went and it was very busy which wasn’t too big of a problem. Pretty view from the top. Pretty easy trail. It’s not paved but nothing to aggressive. There was plenty of parking for the area. There could be some better signage for different trails. I saw some people biking but it wasn’t clear where those trails were.

I grew up in this area so I have been to Thunderbird Conservation Park several times. There are several trails with different types of difficulties. My favorite trail is the Sunrise trail. It is a quick hike with awesome views, my German Shepherd loves it too! The park also has several different types of amenities like picnic areas and a wildlife lookout area that not many people know about. I recommend downloading the Avem app, it will help you discover and find all the different park amenities offered at Thunderbird Conservation Park. Happy Hiking!

Did the Cholla trail and it came out to be 4.1 miles with a 646’ elevation gain. Steep and lots of rock. I took my time and even then, caught myself slipping a couple of times and that’s with trail shoes. Great views of the valley. Not many people.

One of the best mountains for hiking especially for beginners. Different trails are there with difficulty level easy to medium. Kids friendly. Pet friendly. Covered resting areas are also there. Pretty good and large parking structure. Beware of rattle snakes and always try to stick to the designated trails. No entry free and no pre registration. Carry water. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear.Open - sunrise to sunset daily.Gates are locked at sunset.

The park is still crowded with new-years-resolution people but the weather and the scenery were fantastic. We did the Arrowhead Point Loop along with a lot of people and many kids. The trail is steep and rocky a lot of the way. We did the 2.7 mile loop in about an hour and 10 minutes. A permanent (?) flag pole and flag have been installed at the top where the 360 degree views were spectacular.

Awesome place to hike. Beautiful views from the top and you will see different types of cactus here. You can see beautiful houses surrounded by water once you reach the top. There are hiking paths connected to the other mountains too. If you go to the other mountain which is on the other side of the road in the evening, you will see balloons in the sky. Arizona have awesome sunset views and especially if you are on the top of the mountain, you will enjoy it! Try to go early in the morning or in the late evenings to avoid the heat during this summer.

Great hiking spot. Variety of trails, all generally well maintained but moderately challenging. Fantastic views of the city from the trails. Restroom facilities and picnic ramadas on 59th, mostly in the valley between peaks. Parking on 59th or 67th. Wildflowers were amazing in March 2019.

Arrive around 7am for a good sunrise. Trails are pretty empty. Bring a dog and work your way to the peak. Greeted at the top by the glorious Stars and Stripes. Plaque with the pledge of allegiance is a classy touch. Sit on makeshift benches taking pics. When rested move on west towards 59th ave. You will loop around back to the parking lot completing a nice hike.

Ive been hiking here for over 7 years, Ive also had my childrens birthday parties at the picnic areas when its not to hot out. Theres restrooms near by with plenty of parking. We love coming to the trails here. We get to enjoy Arizonas beautiful desert landscapes and wildlife. Some trails go for miles and others less, there are mile markers all along the trail. When you get to the top of the peaks you can see all of Phoenix metropolitan area. Great place to hike with your dog, ride a bike, or even ride your horse. Always make sure to bring plenty of drinking water, and wear proper hiking shoes because the trails can have pretty rough terrain. Another thing to remember is during spring and summer time there is a lot more wildlife activity going on, so be aware of your surroundings.

Thunderbird Conservation Park hosts many trails of which I have covered, the Arrowhead, the Coachs whip, the Sunrise, the Cholla trails. Arrowhead and Sunrise are tailor made family trail spots. I hiked along with my wife and a 2 year old. It was a good time out and they enjoyed the hike. Cholla trail is relatively a moderate hike. I had earlier made it to the summit along with my friend. Sunrise and Coach whip trails are more of walking spots with minimal or moderate inclinations.

Want to tell people you hiked in Arizona, but dont feel like hanging off the side of a cliff or working too hard? Thunderbird is perfect for the novice hiker. This is a nice uphill walk that you can call a hike. You feel good about yourself until a toddler goes running by you on the way up. Theres a nice view from the top and its a good way to get away from craziness for an hour or so.Pro-tip: Remember where you parked. I almost had to call Thunderbird my new home after losing my car for a few minutes (but what seemed like days). I was minutes away from starting my shelter and rubbing some sticks together (as if I knew how to start a fire).

This is a beautiful park with over 15 miles of trails. The view is beautiful and the trail maps are marked pretty clearly with the levels of difficulty. There arent restrooms at the top of the park at the trail heads off of Pinnacle Peak Road, so plan ahead! However, there are small restrooms in the bottom half of the park at the main entrance. The Flatlander (1.25 miles, easy) is my favorite for a relaxed walk and chat with friends, however there are several more challenging trails for those that are looking for a full workout.

I really love this park but over the years it has gotten WAY too crowded. We couldn’t walk for 3-4 minutes without having to stop and move over for people. It normally doesn’t bother or phase me especially on a Sunday but my lord! It got a bit excessive. Probably not going to come here during the weekends. But the park itself is nicely laid out, it’s challenging in some areas and not to mention close to the freeways.

So get your Tennies or boots on and go out and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the desert landscape. No matter what level you are beginner or expert you can take the challenge on of the tall mountain or the level ground your pick. You will not be disappointed. Just be sure you bring lots of water.
