I love this place . This is a real movietheatre . Very old style . Cozy.

Many times I passed by this theater and thought to myself skip it, looks old, they play the Rocky Horror Picture Show. But today (late November 2018) I tried it and now kick myself for not visiting earlier. The theater was busy (weekend after Thanksgiving) and the ticket line moved fast and so did the concession line. The prices were the same as the big chain theaters. The seats were new and comfortable, but not powered or fully reclining which I dont prefer. The service at the ticket booth was courteous and so was the concession stand. I walked here so not sure about parking but I am disappointed in myself that I didnt try it earlier! If my review and or photos were helpful please give a thumbs up

Good location, with comfortable seats. Each theatre is pretty small so get there early to get the best seats. Price was reasonable for the tickets. Drinks and popcorn were overpriced so wouldnt bother with these

Great cinema for an evening movie going experience with some great restaurants close by. They show first and second run films and the parking is very easy. The location is a little dated so you will not be getting more updated amenities like stadium or reserved seating. #classicgateway

I love this theater. It has a vintage vibe, its very welcoming. They show a mix of new, old, and indie movies, so chances are they will have something you like. The prices are fair, comparable to other theaters. I would highly recommend.

I love the Old School theater look. It was so nice to see a place hold its original look. Only issue i had with the place is that the seats were almost level to each other which made it so ppl were in my way.

Saw Rocky Horror Picture Show - love the movie and the actors were good, but there were only a few people in the audience

I grew up in Ft Laud. I went to this theater as a teenager and most my life. I still live in broward county. I drive by there and instantly it brings me back to my youth. Man how time flys. Almost brings a tear to my eye. I would take all my dates here after dinner. This was a goto spot. Just like Castle Park Amusement and Grand Prix Race o Rama. Those were the days. Im 52 now. Thank god for this theater and the Elbow Room. This is Ft. Lauderdale !!!

Best movie theater in town

I love this old movie theatre, the experience is unique and the personnel very friendly.

This is the most interesting and historic place to see a movie. I love the board they have to leave your comments on the movie you just saw. I always enjoy my experiences there. I have been going here since 1985.

Its a nice old timey theater. The seats lean back which is a plus. Friendly staff. Groupon has a great discount for tickets.

Older theatre from the early 1950s (1951 to be exact) the way they used to be without fancy reclining chairs , no bells and whistles here its pretty neat :)Super sweet mid century vibe!Awesome marquee !Not very kid friendly in my opinion but makes sense I dont think they do Pixar , limited to four theater roomsNot as comfortable as newer theaters but if you want comfort stay home on the old couch lol

I really love this movie theater. It generally has very interesting offerings that are more arty and different than the other big chain theaters around. Smaller, independent and very good popcorn. Pleasant staff and good seats and sight lines. Parking is in the rear and very easy as well.

This theatre is adorable. Comfortable seats. Unique films you wont see in most theaters. Who ever chooses these films has great taste. If you go and you SHOULD, there is a wonderful kiosk-bulletin board where customers leave their reviews on post-it notes. More often than not, they are hilarious. The Gateway is a remaining jewel of old Fort Lauderdale.

I love the atmosphere and vintage ambience of this theater. They always show good cerebral films that you never see at the large multiplex theaters. There are not a lot of old theaters like this one left, and its a treasure to have in Fort Lauderdale. I live 25 miles from this place but the drive is worth it.

It’s a Classic Theatre with usually better movies where you don’t have to pre select your seat when you buy a ticket.

Finally! An Art House...in Florida! We love this unique theatre. We looked high and low...They have an impressive/great run of films - and staff is friendly - we seek out this theatre FIRST whenever we are in town. Big fans.

The best of 3 stars, if that makes sense. Its not a gleaming new theater but it gets the job done. Screen image and sound quality are better than youd guess. Viewing angle and the degree to which you have to look up in some locations can feel a bit odd. Also, the rewards scheme could be more flexible. And lastly, years ago they used to show more independent and foreign films, which I really enjoyed, but no so much anymore.

Very very nice theater! Very comfortable reclining seats with cup holders. Rest rooms were clean. Plenty to eat at concession stand. Ample parking. Definitely would return here for another flick!

Great experience , great screens and sound system. Some of the best movies . We just came home from Rocketman . It was incredible, and the theater experience added to it.

This theater is clean and has some cool movie posters. This said, I experienced very poor customer service when I had to leave before the movie I went to see even started. The manager refused to give me a refund claiming the computers were down right after they sold tickets to a couple.

Nice theater. Only show a few films so make sure you look up whats showing to make sure it has what you want to see. No fancy recliner seats so dont come here expecting that. Check Groupon first you may be able to find a great deal on there for this place.

This place is so amazing and magical. The auditoriums are fully updated, super classy, between 2 restaurants so, great for events. They always have a great selection of movies, critically acclaimed mostly.Management is friendly and helpful.

Our first option for movies!

I really love going to this movie theater because it reminds me of what theaters used to be like. Its small and the movies they choose are usually the ones I prefer to see. I also enjoy the kiosk with the hand written movie reviews. The popcorn also tastes better there (maybe its my own spin on things that makes it so). There are a couple of good restaurants within walking distance. Its just a different feel than going to the mall. I guess its both nostalgic and urban.

Every time I see a film at The Gateway, it is always a memorable experience. The staff is wonderful, accommodating, the treats at the concession stand are delicious, comfortable seats. I do love the posters and pictures of classic films and of movie stars of yesteryear. Overall, great vibe, and always a great time at The Gateway. Kudos to you all

Love this theatre....it feels like home. Hope it outlives me as Id hate to see this authentic little movie house disappeare. Shows great movies that you cant see in big flashy super theatres. Long live Gateway.

Great way to spend a rainy day. Love that they have old movie star pictures on the walls. They still do the late night Rocky Horror show....bring all the props its a participant show!! Its fun to get up and dance the time warp again!

Classic old theater that has great atmosphere and great popcorn. Chairs recline and are new and comfortable.

Soooo much fun

The seats arent up to the modern standard of stadium seating with recliner chairs, but they have been renovated and are comfortable. The concession stand is also a bit week compared to modern standards, but the popcorn is good.

Excellent Must See Local theaterA classic original theatre from yesterdays past. Regardless of her age this is thought to be one of the oldest and last original movie theaters in South Florida.With Fall coming up Im looking forward to the annual late night showings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show starting on September 2nd, 2017 at 11:45 PM and running through October!!

The classic design of this theater as well as the interesting movie collection featured all contribute to the old school charm. The pin boards outside where people leave comments on the films they have seen are a blast to read. The only thing is that the staff are usually brusque and have a general unhappy vibe.

We are very lucky to have Gateway Theater in East Fort Lauderdale. Its unrepentantly old, a reminder of how movie theaters were before stadium seating and dining changed the big chains, Gateway is still family owned and it shows.But were lucky because Gateway runs smaller, adult films the big movieplexes arent interested in, limited release art films and the occasional blockbuster. Gateway serves a vital role in our community and I hope it stays with us.

EDIT: We are regulars at the Gateway Theater since my original review, and we continue to enjoy this local jewel every-time we visit. Five strong stars from this moviegoer :)Had a wonderful experience at Gateway last evening with my wife. Built in 1951 and fully updated, we are remiss we had not visited for some time but will make it a point to return as regulars. Yes, it is like stepping back in time, but in a good way. Seats are super comfortable, the theaters spotlessly clean and the screens are playing top quality digital movies. The staff is super - not treating you like just another visitor, but rather with personal report filled with smiles and top-notch service. Theres a pleasant quirkiness to the whole atmosphere that makes the Gateway Theater a true classic! Plus, we get to support a local business and one that gives positive character to our fair city of Fort Lauderdale.

Interesting theater. It hasnt been updated in a while so it has a more vintage/classic feel to it. The theater rooms still have the old tilted floor as opposed to stadium seating which can make it difficult to see the screen if someone is sitting in front of you. They also seem to play more indie movies than any other theater in the area.

Beautiful to have it redone and see shows again.

My favorite theater in Fort Lauderdale. Over 50 years old. Seats redone a couple of years ago. Good films and friendly staff. Park in Gateway Center lot.

My date and I had the best time they treated me and my date like a king it is old and historic iReal classic the architecture is really beautiful the people are friendly and nice and theyre very sweet and everybody was in a great mood because its so close to the ocean to Beach it was the best time weve had in such a long time Id recommend everybody to go there

Yikes. Sometimes its nice to appreciate the history with places that have history to them. I was hoping this place would be like that but it is not. This place is not run well, the movie theater is very awkwardly set up where there was a huge pole in the middle of the theater so it blocks the view for people, sound was low, really nothing enjoyable or worth re-visiting. Sorry

Great little theater. It looks very unassuming and honestly it is. However despite expecting a old fashion reel projector and sticky velour seats from the 70s, it was recently remodeled with new seats and nice sound and digital projection. It has a classic feel thats far a few between!

Love the Gateway! Not only does this theater have a great vintage vibe, its clean, well-run, and they show really cool films -including the much-beloved Rocky Horror Picture Show! If you havent yet been, youre in for a real treat.

Perhaps the only theatre in town with any character. Original, not built 2 week ago like most structures in Lauderdale. A jewel- A gem. Love it.
