This is part of a large network of forrest preserves with wonderful hiking. Terrain is relatively flat to rolling. There are both long and short trails. Some are paved and others mowed and they link so you can route your hike. Trails are well marked. Pick up or download a map because some are longer than others

Beautiful preserve. We did a bit of the brown loop and the whole yellow loop. About 4.5 miles in total. 70% is in the open prairie. 30% is in trees. Not too many bugs but we did have DEET on. Saw a total of 6 people and a horse on the entire trail on a Saturday AM. Parking lot is mostly open on the west side near the brown loop.

Absolutely beautiful prairie! Less than 1% of the prairies in Illinois remain, and this is one of those hidden gems. Love to hike through the woods to the lake, and go on the bike trail. Nice place to go for walks.

Nicely maintained trails for all runners and bikers. Easy to spot deers in early morning and dusk. Good for a slow walk as well. There are benches every mile or so. Its amazing to have such a peaceful place close to a densely populated community and highway traffic.

Not a lot of places of natural beauty have been bestowed upon the residents of the west suburbs. Just a place to breathe, take a walk. Smoke some weed. Think about your life. And the decisions that brought you here. Weigh out your options. Is it worth it? You know youll be leaving soon anyway. You gave it a shot.

Pretty nice trail to bike on. You can still hear the cars on the road on a majority of the trail, but its not too loud. There are a couple places with splendid views, my favorites are the views of bode lake, lakes in Carl R Hansen woods, and the big open areas connecting to Barrington road. On most days there are a couple people on the trail even during the winter months if the weather is nice

Such a relaxing path and great hiking area. Of course mosquitos were swarming I wish they would spray. Paths are beautiful however I’m always hyper alert and looking over my shoulders in these type of places. I wish there were panic buttons ( like the traffic light changer) throughout the path. Just the feeling of extra safety on these trails would be a great step.

A beautiful, peaceful, little spot to go and commune with God (or nature). You can bring your best friend - dogs allow (your honey and Mini MEs are allowed too. Take a nature walk/bike ride (for rent), a family picnic or just relax. Enjoy, while you stay; please leave it as clean as you found it when you leave! ENJOY!

A day of orienteering in a late-winter setting with a slightly rolling terrain and a bit muddy. Trails seem well maintained and I imagine see a bit of higher use in nicer weather. Do an early morning meditation or afternoon picnic with a group - lot of varied spaces. Only down note is a bit of trash but probably not very noticeable when the green is up.

Its very large with great trails for hiking and biking. Well maintained too. The woods have deer in them so take caution in November during the rut when the bucks have thier full antlers and compete with each other. They are normally timid but during the rut they can occasionally get territorial and aggressive with people but luckily this is rare. Its like anything that weighs over 250 pounds and has antlers-be respectful. Also, never ever try to rescue baby deer you may find in the forest preserve. The does will leave the young in a safe spot to go forage. They are not abandoned. The moment your smell is on that deer the mother will abandon it. Leave it be and walk away. The mother will come back and it will be fine. This place is also clean and very pretty. Access to the highway is just to the north. Do be aware of your personal safety as like any where, unpleasant people can cause issues. This is a big place. Bring a cell phone, make sure someone knows where you are, prepare for the weather and be aware of strangers particularly while jogging early and late out on the trails. Common sense make and a beautiful setting go together.
