Unique view into the history of southern Arizona. Great place to relax under the shade of beautiful trees. Learn about the Slaughter family and their influence in Arizona. Go back in time for a few hours and then you’ll be grateful for modern technology!

Beautiful historic ranch, in the middle if an unexpected landscape. Though Slaughter was a Southern Confederate he seems to have adopted the bold and honorful traits of the Union, as he built a life for himself and an extended family in this remote corner of Arizonas West. A beautiful remnant of the US forts still remain above the ranch almost as guardian to the moral imperatives expected from the less savory elements the Confederates fought for in trying to destroy the Nation. Truly an idyllic spot in the history of the south out West!

This was one of the most amazing, historical places that I have visited. The hosts were very knowledgeable and kind. It is a self-guided tour through the farmhouse, the cooks quarters, etc. There are even farm animals for the children to pet! Looking for a neat place to have a picnic with your family next to the lake? This is the spot!

Visiting the Slaughter Ranch was an extremely rewarding experience. I had some doubts until we arrived and parked our pickup in the visitors parking area. The road from Douglas to the Ranch is a piece of cake. It had rained the day before and there were a few mud puddles, but it’s an easy drive and the road was in good shape.Fred and Vickie, the ranch managers were unbelievable! One of our party had a bad knee, and Fred hauled her around the ranch in a golf cart so she didn’t miss a thing.I especially enjoyed a tour of the livestock. They have a small herd of Longhorn cattleThey maintain as a visitor’s attraction and a couple donkeys, a couple of horses, and goats and sheep. All of these critters are pets. It was quite an experience for this city boy to rub noses with a giant Angus that nuzzled me like a pet Cocker Spaniel. The history of the place is almost overwhelming. So much action took place there in such an important time and place. We are definitely going back when we can spend more time and extend our exploration beyond the ranch on the Geronimo Trail.Norm 12/10/2018

Historic ranch right on the border with Mexico. Originally the ranch spanned across the border. If you want to learn about ranching in Southern Arizona and about the Border, definitely go here! The new owners are lovely folks who have done a fantastic job at keeping the place looking good. They also have some really cute pets.

Beware!!! Sign says open, but lady says shell shoot! We went online to the Slaughter Ranch website to find information for visiting. The website states just come on out and see us! Were open Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm (except Christmas and New Years). So we drove the 1 1/2 hours to the Slaughter Ranch. On our way we passed two brown historic signs that made us aware the Slaughter Ranch was up ahead. Once we got to the ranch there was a sign on the gate that said We are open Wednesday through Sunday just like the website had stated. We arrived there at approximately 11:00 on a Saturday. Once we went through the gate we drove down and parked in the parking area. We got out of the truck and were greeted by a man who said they were closed. He said there should have been a sign put out saying they were closed, we told him there was no sign. He apologized and again said they were closed. We got in the vehicle to leave. As we were backing out a lady came running towards us with tree trimmer in her hands screaming we are closed over and over again. She continued screaming other things at us like there is a closed sign on the gate, didnt you see the gate was closed, thats how people get shot, im calling border patrol on you. We tried to tell her there is no closed sign but she would not stop screaming for us to get a single word in. We left and will never go back. There are way to many good museums out there who treat there visitors correctly to bother with this one. If they do not want visitors they need to change there website or remove it completely. They also need to put a no trespassing sign on the gate. I have lived on a REAL ranch my entire life and i know proper gate etiquette. If the sign says no trespassing, private property, do not enter, closed etc you dont enter. If the gate says we are open you assume they want business. So beware, if you decide to go to the slaughter ranch you may waste hours of drive time plus money on fuel just to be told they are closed by a crazy woman on a power trip who threatens to shoot and call border patrol on you.

RATING IS ONE STAR-- OR ZERO STARS IF POSSIBLEThis occurred on Wednesday, Oct 8th, 2014.We were staying in Naco AZ with an RV group and wanted to visit area attractions. So off we went to the Slaughter Ranch and Museum. We drove up to the gate at 2:58 PM- we followed a lady on a off road four wheeler from the slight right turnoff of from Geronimo Trail road to the entrance gate. She closed it in our face. She had long, curly red hair. She informed us, after closing the gate, that she locks the gate at 3PM; there is to much to see in 30 minutes and she had things to do. We said we would still like to go in and would leave by 3:30. She very rudely and bluntly informed us that I am not letting you in; but you can come back tomorrowWe pleaded with her to no avail. We had driven from Bisbee specifically to see this site; We had heard about it from an article in Arizona Highways Oct 2014. After a 50 + mile drive and 14 miles of dirt road we had no interest in returning. We were quite interested to see the ranch and had only come this far to see this Ranch and Museum.I would suggest to visitors that the hospitality of the hosts precludes a visit . I believe they have only two employees.I will forward this on to their main office in Sun City AZ- and to Arizona Highways.I would not recommend this to anyone.
