One of many historic sites in Wyoming. We visited while camping in the Douglas area. The forts exhibits and preserved artifacts are amazing. Ian, the forts on-site host, was friendly and knowledgeable, providing information and cold water to slake our thirst on a hot, sunny day.Make sure to take the self-guided walking tour of the grounds, and enjoy the view from a gazebo above the North Platte river. Keep your eyes on the ground occasionally, because we saw a small horned toads, and found a few old style nails with square heads on one of the pathways. Remember, take only pictures, not exposed artifacts...

Great stop to learn some Wyoming history. Its only open in the warmer months. They have a small gift shop that offers free water and sunscreen! The exhibits there offer a great look into the soldiers life at that time. There is even a nice walk around the fort with markers to describe what buildings were there.

Great site to walk around and soak in the history. The docent had lots of information to share. Militarily, a bad place for a fort.

This is worth stepping back in time for. Put yourself in the place of Soldiers on the plains. Great history worth your time

The location really gives you an idea of how hard it was to be a soldier on the frontier. Bake in the summer and freeze in the winter. Take the time to stop at the fort and let your imagination put you in the 1860s.
