Ill be honest, I never understood the fascination people have for trains; That is until I stopped at this little historical gold mine.Douglas Railroad blew me away!!! (And Im from Helper Ut.) It was a perfect spot to spend our afternoon and we did just that!It was so fun taking a step back in time and seeing how it would be to sleep/travel/dine in the 1800-1900 on train. The museum inside had unique pictures and a section decided to train graffiti and being a 90s kid I definitely appreciate that specific tribute.
This was so cool! The amount of artifacts was incredible! You can walk in 4 of the 6 cars (due to needing restoration) and see the stuff first hand! We walked in the caboose, the passenger car, the dining car (which also included the kitchen) and the sleeping car. There is a steam locomotive there as well, but you cannot climb it. We have so many pictures from this place! Then in the depot there, Chris, the lady there was so cool to talk to and so informative. The artifacts in there was cool too! Chris gave us a sticker map of the jackalopes in Douglas to go find, we went and found 5 of 16 stickers! The people here are very friendly too. We would give this place more than 5 stars if we were able to!
Museum is free. Great staff! They are very friendly and welcoming. The museum has oil raidroad cars outside. You can go inside and see how they looked liked. All of them are very well maintained. They transport you to other era.Theres also an exhibition inside the museum. Its informative and has interesting facts about Douglas, WY.
They were closed when we came by but we still got out and walked around. The kids loved it. I was super fascinated by the trains. Very cool to see the huge train engine and all the different train cars. We will definitely have to come by again the next time we are in Wyoming to see it when open!Nice piece of history.
We loved our trip to see the trains! Our grandson was able to see them close up and touch everything. The staff inside even ran the model railroad for us!
A must see for anyone who loves trains. They also have a giant jackalope. How cool is that!?
We stop here every time we are heading North. Nice spot for a picnic and very kid friendly.
This museum was really cool. You get to walk through some old train cars.
Neat railroad museum, you can tour an old caboose, dinning car and sleeper car for free. There is a large Jackalope statue out front for photos....
Pretty cool little train museum, you can even walk thru the old cars!
Cool if youre into trains
Fun to walk through the old trains
Did not actually visit the interior yet, but the grounds & cars are in great shape!
Great place to take a family outing
FUN FOR KIDS
Good place to learn some of the History
I always remember this train from the time I was knee-high to a jackalope back in the early 70s. Back then the cars were hooked together (if memory serves me correctly) and on display in the fair park. Saw the current display a few years back with my own kids. Worth the visit if youre in town. You can make a day of it by stopping here and then also the Wyoming Pioneer Museum just down the road.
Small but still neat. Trains are not unlocked on rainy days, but the train set up inside is pretty cool to watch. Plus, theres several jackalope, which makes my granddaughter happy.
Its not often you get to see old railroad facility cars and big bunnies in the same place! Ivy liked the big inside rail station bunny the best!
There was a cool model train set inside and retired train engines and cars outside. Interesting place, especially if you like trains.
What a fine and outstanding example of public works making a tourist destination out of our places we want to go in our own hearts. These carriages, engine, station, and caboose are in outstanding condition. So sorry if I sound corny if my imagination runs wild to think of them pulled into Chicago for that unfinished Agatha Christie sequal set by a park in the park by my boys state city, the innocence of a state fair that I first danced with a real girl, or to most of you a peaceful, honest, prarie town with beautiful churchloving, roller derby cheering folks with a thing for jackqlopes. Yes they are absolutely real! My boy Arlo, said it best of the exhibits - they are trapped referring to the boardwalk planplanks that cover a shattered splinter of tracks- and I realize I am trapped-like these trains, but magically these doors are not locked Pooof! instant time travel. Yes clearly this is not the Orient Express, or Indiana Jones, but it is musty and full of hope, we walk around in reverant silence wondering if the ghosts will drop us off in another praire in India, a movie set in Los Angeles or a ornate slab of icy concrete in Moscow, (Arlo was hoping for the North Pole talking about the polar Express constantly) good. What a great place to go, and find the dreams that will arrive, not too late, alllllll aboooooard!
My husband loved it
