It’s a great little place to get some birding in, I saw some Great Egrets right away but I do recommend binoculars even cheap ones if you want a closer look at the birds. Gorgeous view of the sunset from the viewing platform. It’s a easy short walk from where you park the car to the viewing platform so it’s great for disabled or elderly which is something I’m always looking for since with my heart failure I can’t do long trails like Oso Preserve to see the birds. I think a wheelchair would be no problem, it’s a wooden platform, it has a tiny part of it unpaved from parking to the viewing deck but it’s really flat dirt. There are no trees or a cover over the viewing deck so in the summer you’ll be in full sun, but the deck does offer benches to sit on. There’s also some signs to read about Timon Marsh and types of birds you will see. The water there is Rincon Channel. There isn’t a lot of parking but it’s really nice and quiet, the cross street is Sandbar Ave. The only downside is hearing the cars from the freeway but it’s really not a huge deal. A big plus is Dolphin park ( great for kids ) is very close down the street if you want to see the beach or check out sea gulls. It’s definitely worth a stop if you are a birder! I found this stop thx to a birding app. It does list lots of different species spotted here! So I plan to be visit again to check more birds off my list especially since a group of ducks took off when I happen to arrive.
