Many old Carnegie Libraries such as this are wonderful historical treasures in and of themselves. For some communities, the limited space became too restrictive as the towns grew and they were replaced with bigger libraries. Fortunately, some have been preserved and are being utilized as history museums. This one is fantastic! The collection has been curated well in telling a story of people of area and providing representations of how they lived. Some items are not as localized, but are representative of people identified with the expansionism of the 19th century. One such item is a saddle that had belonged to Kit Carson. Check this place out. Its good for young and old. Its free. It wont take you but maybe an hour to peruse. Then, reward yourself with a burger at the nearby Burger Bar.

A nice historical museum housed in a former Carnegie Library, the Layland Museum showcases artifacts from Native American cultures and early settlers. There were many exhibits designed for hands-on exploration by children. Altogether a pleasant place to visit, including the building itself.

One of the coolest museums I have been to. First off the two main issues one ask with museums is where to park?.... Which there are areas across the street. And how much does it cost?.... and that would be Free. I enjoyed the exhibits including the early day look at the pioneers and how they lived. The highlight here though is they have one of Kit Carsons saddle. If you dont know who he is and what he did then Google him its worth it. The museum is not the biggest but the old theater is definitely worth the time to check out. Put all of this together with a gift shop that wont break your budget.... Magnets are 1.50 to 6.50 depending on how fancy. It made for a nice visit.

This is a very small museum. However, it is a beautiful building with a lot of history. Mr Carnegie would be proud. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, even made suggestions of other places to visit and where to go for lunch. (We went to Heroes and it was fantastic as was the beautiful and unique building. Stop by the candy shop for incredible chocolate and vintage candies.)
