Old course, short (6000 from the tips) but it was challenging. There is an overall roughness to the course, it could probably a good overhaul. Many of the greens had issues, but it seems like many of the courses around are having green issues. The most egregious infraction had many of the sand traps filled to the rim with water, like mini lakes. Need to work on the drainage. Not saying I didnt have fun and like I said it was challenging with its a abundant water ( not just in the sand traps. They do have a driving range and putting green and the cart person came by several times.

I really enjoy playing at Cove Cay. Everybody at the course is first rate. I was able to get the round in at just over three hours despite getting stuck behind a group of foursomes, which is to be expected when playing as a single. The only other issue was that green speeds were inconsistent due to recent aeration and sanding, a necessary evil. I will definitely be back.

Do Not Rent or Buy here....I rented a unit at 2616 Cove Cay Drive, Clearwater, FL, Unit 502, the building is terrible condition because the property management will not make needed repairs. The unit has moisture problems that caused mold. I started having headaches, my clothes and shoes started to mold. I informed my landlord that water was coming in around the windows and water was dripping from the window seal, I was informed by my neighbor who owns his unit that the problems with the water is an on going problem that most of the units facing the water has water coming in. First time ever writing a review on Google, but felt it would be good for other tourists in this area to know. We only had the ability to play 1 round of golf, and decided on this course... and we regretted it. The course was in horrendous condition, fairways and roughs were the same. You literally had a hard time distinguishing between the two. The greens were all over the place, some were patchy and brown, some were mediocre. The sand bunkers were the same, they were either in horrible condition or they were decent. But there were far more horrible than decent on both the bunkers and the greens. We chose this course as we were going to be on bay, so we figured we would have some scenic golf. While we were on the bay, it wasnt that scenic due to the overgrowth along the bay of trees and brush. That was a little bit of a bummer. The staff were good to work with, and pleasant. But not worth the $50. The only reason for the 2 stars, is because they had electric carts and they were great!

NOT EVEN WORTH 1 STAR. For the past 3-4 years this course has been in complete disarray. Ive only played it once a year due to the horrendous condition, hoping it would get better. The course isnt worth playing, not even for free. The tee boxes, greens, and fairways look like someones back yard. There are new owners within, roughly, the last few years and I had hoped they would whip the course back into shape due to the location on the bay. Unfortunately nothing has changed. In my opinion, the course has actually gotten worse.I WOULD NOT recommend any reasonable golfer to play this course unless you literally cannot find a tee time elsewhere. With so many courses in the TB area, Im shocked the course is in such a terrible condition. If youre someone who wants to pay a delusional price for a garbage course just to get out for the day, then play Cove Cay.If you take any seriousness to golf and are trying to shoot well, this is not the course to do it. Go play ANYWHERE else. I guarantee you will be let down by the condition at Cove Cay.

*Setting the records straight*Let me start by saying I have never left a review on anything before so this is a testament of how strongly I feel I need to let people know what is up with this course. I’ll try to make it short and sweet as possible. This course has come back 10 fold. Yes in the past was it horrible conditions? Of course. For whatever reason, we can all speculate, years even many months ago the course was not up to par. IT IS NOW! Are there some spotty areas? Of course, this isn’t TPC folks. are the greens green and rolling nicely yes. Are the fairways green and lush again yes. Perfect by no means but where it has come from let’s please give credit where credit is due and say thank you to the staff at cove cay for rejuvenating a once lost gem of Tampa bay. I only course with holes and views of Tampa bay!!! Well worth the 30-40$ people. You will not be disappointed. Now to speak of the layout briefly. This is a challenging course. What it lacks in distance is made up by having to place shots in certain locations. I am a scratch golfer and have shot awesome rounds here and rounds I would not like to speak of haha. That is the sign of a good course. Rewarded for hitting your target. Penalized for being off target. That’s golf folks!Anyone looking for great views, friendly staff, good practice area, and a course that is once again green looking and playing good look no further peeps. This is a good one. Trust me. I know golf.

Staff was very accommodating would give them a 5 star. Course layout is somewhat like an executive course with a lot of irons off the tees and mostly wedges into the greens. Even being short you do have think your way around the course or you will get in trouble easy. The course conditions were okay. The fairways were mostly in good shape, the greens and tees still need a little work, the landscaping with the flowers and the pond lilys was very well kept, the view of the Cove was nice. Overall conditions is what you would expect with a course trying fo rebuild things. Price was good and if I am in the area again I would come back and play.

I thoroughly enjoyed golfing here. On vacation with family and while golfing at a different course someone recommended we come here and we loved it. True, the tee boxes and greens may still need some work, so dont come here if youre looking for a golf course without any flaws, but for the price it was well worth it. Hole location was well placed and I never had an issue with a putt having to cross a bad spot on a green. From what others have said about the new management you can really see the potential the course has, great holes in a nice environment. People in the pro shop were great, hope to return next time Im in the area and see the course in even better shape!

I have lived in Cove Cay for two and a half years. I played at the course two years ago before the Shivers arrived and I played two weeks ago and I have seen a huge improvement. The Shivers truly have a passion for doing everything they can to improve the golf experience. They even added a weekend golf clinic. There is a science to maintaining a golf course. This is not your backyard lawn; it will take time. This isnt Augusta National. What the Shivers need is support and encouragement not ridicule for a course they just took over. Considering the time they have had the club and course they have made considerable progress. I have not had one problem at the restaurant. EVERYONE has been great. No I wasnt paid to say all of this. Im just a resident who feels if the Shivers can do what Rick Perry did for the marina that this is going to be a premier place in the area not to mention property values going up. Would I like to see things like a Marshall, and cart paths repaired, yes but this will take time. Love the new golf carts.

Arrived for tee time an hour early to hit balls. Range was sufficient like you would find at a muni course. Went off early as the starter wanted us to get in front of members waiting to tee off. Which was nice (kinda) if you get there early enough. Which was not the case for some of our party whom had to go off cold. So, just know that tee times are at the mercy of members, which I hate. Either increase membership fees and keep it all to yourselves or open it to the public and respect the tee times. All the members like to drive their carts onto the green. They post their no cart signs 6 feet from the green so there are no aprons. 1 out of 4 greens had issues and a few of the fairways were just gone. Cart paths are cratered throughout. They should tear them out and put down crushed shell. Lots of potential in a great location. As it stands now Id play it again but only at a great rate.Had beers at the bar and had a good time. Great staff.

The new golf carts are the best attraction on the course. The greens look very rough, but are very quick. Hard and firm. Fairways were lacking for the most part of any good grass. Our grandson recently played a Junior golf tournament here. As is our custom, my husband and I attended and followed along in a cart, which we always do. We enjoy being there and giving him support. Normally we pay around $10.00 to rent a cart. The most we ever paid was a total of $20 at a much more prestigious course than this one. We were shocked to say the least when Cove Cay charged $40 for the two of us to share a cart. For $12 more the two of us could have played a round of golf at World Woods! When we contacted the Jr. Golf organization, they, too, were surprised that it was $20 per person. We were extremely disappointed that the course was so unwelcoming. We have scratched it off our list of courses to try. To contrast, one course his high school team played not only charged us only $6 for a cart but also gave the kids free hotdogs and offered them to us as well.

This place used to be special. Now it is Airco reborn. I keep reading about the new owners turning the place around. Around from what, a nice course to a goat farm. The greens were better BEFORE they took over. I paid $35 to play a course with 11 horrible greens. Concrete painted green, bald spots, and bumpy. Grass around the greens are spotty and impossible to chip off. Sunday round took forever since there are no rangers. How do you not tell players you are punching your greens, and still charge full price? Pathetic example of customer service. At least the old management was honest about course conditions and adjusted the price accordingly. I should have read the reviews before I played. Will never go back.

What was horrible at Cove Cay on 5/25/14 was the condition of the course. I have very rarely been on a golf course in which the conditions were worse. Problems included: The fairways must not have sprinkler systems anymore because they are dirt paths with very little grass. The greens were about as bad as you could ever picture a green being. On the 1st hole and hole 16 they were covered in sand. Hole 2 had a temporary green that was nothing more than a hole in the ground. All the rest of the greens were actually brown and looked like in just a few days they would be covered with sand as well. The horrible service issue was the course not providing any water or other drinks all afternoon. The temperatures reached into the mid 90s the day I was there. Despite the heat they sent the drink cart woman home when we were making the turn. Not one hole on the back nine did the course provide water. Not only did this make the day very uncomfortable (thirsty) but it seems that this could be dangerous. By hole 16 I thought I was in the middle of an endurance test, and I was getting my ass kicked.Until Cove Cay starts advertising that they have removed most of the weeds on the course, that they have turned the greens from brown (or sand) into green grass, and until they have actual green grass for fairways they will not see me.

I love this Cove Cay golf course and the layout, and lately it has been my home course since the Belleview Biltmore on Indian Rocks Road closed for renovations. My problem is that it seems course maintenace has gone way down hill. The majority of tee boxes are in very poor condition, mostly weeds. Cart paths are in rough condition, so carts avoid those areas and then you have major turf damage next to cart paths, causing more maintenance. I understand there are rains several days a week this time of year, so many of the traps were mud. Im one of those people who would gladly pay more to play this course, and would play it more often, if conditions were better.

Awful. Covecay is in a free fall. The place is in terrible shape. Dont believe me chech the reviews on Golfnow. Those are pretty awful. Greens are the worst I have seen them in 15 years of playing there. There were no Rangers, so our round took FIVE HOURS AND TWENTY FIVE MINUTES. The group in front of us was slow, dressed in basketball shorts and tee shirts, drunk from being served by cart girl, and swearing constantly. We could not hit balls before the round, as the range was closed for a clinic. The starter, an old guy with a mustache was a rude angry old man ill suited for being a courses greeter. The new owners should worry less about painting the clubhouse and more about course conditions. Put some sand in the bunkers PLEASE. Chrt396 you must be good friends with the Shrivers. If you quit playing there because of conditions before, but you find it acceptable now I am baffled. As to changing the publics opinion, lol. Cove cay ratings are falling like a rock on every review board that exists. If this is what the new owners are looking for, count me out.

Ive always loved the layout of the course at Cove Cay. Its a challenging course that can reward you when you hit a good shot and punish you terribly with a bad one. It;s very scenic with lots of water bordering the fairways and on the approaches, plus it has several of those nasty sand traps that act just like magnets to a mishit shot. Its a challenging course. I LOVE the layout!!!I have not played this little gem for years, due to horrible course conditions and extremely rude personnel in the pro shop. It was a chore getting through 18 holes without shaking your head at the chewed up greens, nasty tee boxes and grassless fairways. WE had quit!!! We were DONE with Cove Cay.Fast forward to 03-01-2015. Most Golfers have a short memory and can be forgiving..so we tried the course again. New owners have taken over and poured their heart and soul into this course. The owners are both PGA professionals and have brought their efforts to Cove Cay. The efforts show in the condition of the course. Now...Im not saying that its in perfect condition..but its EXTREMELY playable. The tee boxes...although chewed up a bit by the hackers...are in good shape. They were level...and you could easily find a spot to get good footing. The fairways were in good shape. Not super lush...but still in good shape. The rough was...well..rough!! Very playable however!! There are a lot of pines on this course as well as oaks. If you visit the rough,,you might be hitting off pine straw or oak leaves as your base. But...when my buddy was complaining about it, I simply stated the obvious. Its the rough! Hit it straight..and you wont have to B..ch and complain! The greens were a little sandy...but here is the great part! The greens are fast and they roll true. The sandy APPEARANCE does NOT effect the roll of that ball. I love faster greens..and this course does NOT disappoint. At the turn at 9, we visited the restaurant for a dog and coke..and price was reasonable and the bartender was very pleasant and efficient. I will say...I think there is a corroboration with the cart girl and the black birds on that course. If you have ANY food on your cart..you better hide it..cuz those little ^&%$% will steal you blind! Do they make a shotgun that looks like a golf club? I want one! The big black bird is MINE next time I visit that course. I ate 1 cracker out of the package of 6!!!We finished up in good time. We were a twosome....following a 4some. We were never held up for more than a minute and pace was great. I had the opportunity of speaking with Pat Shriver after 18 and I can tell that she and her husband take great pride in that course and that they are trying hard to change the golfing publics old perceptions. I just want to say, that Im so so glad that the Shrivers have taken over and making such great strides in improving the courses condition. We WILL be back!! LOVED IT!!

The worst customer service of any course I have ever been to, the people are just plain mean. If you are a family man who wants to teach your kid about the great game of golf, this is NOT the place to do it.I have played since I was a young boy and because of golf and the time I got to spend with my father, I grew to love the game and respect the etiquette. The staff at Cove Cay did no get the same lesson. They are uncaring and rude, the man running the pro shop actually used the word bi!ch in describing some of the members whom he said would bi!ch if they saw my son with me. He even named names (will not disclose here) of people he didnt want to hear b!tching from. He all but told me directly that I was not welcome there.Go up to Chi Chi Rodriguezs course on McMullen Booth Rd. They were wonderful and respectful, befitting the man the course is named for, in turn I spent $100 in the pro shop and 50% tips, trust me avoid Cove Cay at all costs.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME PLAYING AT THIS PLACE!!!The new owner, Bill Shriver, is rude and careless of the community. The previous comment is a planted marketing ploy.

Its common sense to let a part of 2 go ahead of a party of 9, regardless of tee time. They would be catching up to you after the first hole anyway.
