Ive lived by several of the parks in Chicago, and this one is my favorite. Its right next to the forest preserve, so I sort of lump it all together. Its amazing to be able to ride a bike around here and let my kids run around the field.

This is a great park with plenty of open space and is right next to the Northbranch trail. Ive lived near this park for years, and never spent too much time here but I recently brought my son here after we got some snow only to realize this park is ideal for sledding. The minute you walk up to the park you have hills that are steep enough for for kids and even adults to enjoy. My son, my nephews and myself decided to grab our sleds on a whim and had a great time while we were here. If you are looking for a good spot to sled, definitely try this place out or shout out some strong recommendations.

We had a great time walking the path at Gompers today! The park hosted a wonderful variety of water fowl! There were Mallard ducks swimming and diving on one side. On the other side, we saw a small flock of geese enjoying the water. To top it off, we watched a beautiful craine take flight from a tree stump in the water!

Giant trees, 2 ponds and a river. Parking. Rolling hills of grass. Baseball diamond for little league play. Swimming pool and sprinkler across Foster. River goes for miles thru Labaugh Woods, under the Sauganash Trail, and past Cicero. Less than 5 mile walk up 1 side of the river at foster and pulaski, go to Cicero to cross and come back other side. Amazing nature. Always see deer, sometimes coyotes.

A gem of a park with wetlands and a charming pond surrounded by rustic looking bridges and stone paths with a trickling stream. The area is undergoing an ecological restoration. However the fish appear to be gone from the pond other than a single carp I saw. I tried two different types of bait and different areas of the pond and did not get a nibble. The habitat is not great for fish with the lack of hiding places. As others noted it seems like the Park District no longer stocks it with fish and it was probably overfished in the past.

Grew up in the neighborhood. They have done many renovations to the park and continue to keep it well maintained. They hosts lots of different events. Great place for a family picnic. Their field house has many different classes for kids. Outdoor swimming pool is open to the public in the summer.

Review №29

This may not be the park for you if youre trying to take your kids to a large playground (Horner Park does better in that regard), but Gompers has enough of the Chicago River flowing through it (and accompanying wildlife) that its a perfect site for a nature lover. Also close enough to LaBagh Woods that taking a side trip to the forest preserve is both quick and easy.

Great city park, lots of space, picnic area, bike path, swimming pool, three baseball diamonds, two with lights, a full spectrum of youth baseball and softball leagues, playground, sledding after a good snow fall, one parking lot at the picnic area and another by Little Gompers, decent not great street parking in between, a great summer camp program, and a fieldhouse. The baseball fields all flood after significant rain fall as it is designed to do to control Chicago river flooding in the area.Starting 2018, avoid the little Gompers baseball field as it never fully dries out after their latest attempt to control the river flooding.

Ever since I was a kid I always thought this was a gorgeous park. A huge park. It took moving nearby to really realize just how big it is. 39 acres. Thats 1,698,640 sq. ft..or 29.5 fields. Thats a lot of green space spread across and down Foster Avenue and spanning the Chicago River. The natural area is 6.2 acres of some hilly, some wet, some woodland habitats. A fishing lagoon with pier access. Fed by prairie stream water. It does have River Rescue and stewardship opportunities. I love the footbridge over the river. The fishing area is back by Carmen. No canoe launch here - thats at River Park. Places to hike, walk, enjoy nature. Paths with stone. Plenty of room for sports. Baseball/softball, , tennis, a, basketball and a roller hockey rink.Gym in the Fieldhouse. Playground. Picnic grove. All that plus a full range of services & programs. Pre-school. Ballet. Arts & Crafts. Gymnastics include tiny tot tumbling. Conditioning and stretching for seniors. So much to enjoy. Folks do some sledding in winter.Just getting out and finding out what they have to offer was the best thing I did. When it rains everyone knows part of the park at Foster & Pulaski near the Samuel Gompers monument floods. Otherwise there is no downside here. A great park to be enjoyed. Free.

This was a great hidden gem I stumbled upon when I was looking for a nice place for an afternoon walk. The trails are new and quite. During out walk we discovered some deer and were in awe of how close we could get to them. Parking was plentiful and it seemed as if the main parking had plenty of places to relax and have a picnic.

This is a nice park along the Chicago River that offers lots of activities including swimming, baseball, basketball, tennis, and more. Since its along the river, flooding can be an issue in spots. The North Branch Trail starts at the west end of the park and runs all the way to the Chicago Botanic Garden.
