I was amazed by this place! This was the first time I was here and I will definitely go again. I went to a Mix at Six to see Cirque Eloize: Saloon. Phenomenal show! Open seating so it was first come first serve.

What a great theater. All seats seem to have a good view. This theater is built underground so grant park is above the theater. Its also located just around the corner from the Bean.

The Harris Theater consistently brings top talent in the arts to Chicago. Their innovation programming and collaborative partnerships ensures patrons will be able experience some of the best performances in the city. Check out their Beyond the Aria series with Lyric Opera, the Family Series and the many dance and music programs. You will not be disappointed.

The theater is a very nice space and the seating is such that there isnt a bad viewing point. The stage is medium sized and accommodates a production on the smaller side ( I saw an acrobatics Troup of about 9 people. A very nice place.

The stairs and elevator were near each other. The kitchen area was a necessity as well as the different entrances to the stage. There was ample room for the catering food to be held before serving. To see it from a behind and below the scenes, was a fantastic experience for me.

The performance we paid to see was billed as the Elgin Orchestra performing Abbey Road. It would have been great to actually hear the orchestra! Instead, we strained to hear anything beyond the vocals and the drummer - who some genius determined should bang loudly from a position in front of the orchestra! An example of how bad this was, during While My Guitar Gently Weeps, we could barely hear the lead guitar. And then, they brought forward a violinist who, though vigorously working her bow, could not be heard at all! And we were sitting less than ten feet from the mixing board! Very disappointing

Enjoyed their free open house. Even though I didnt see a show, the facility is beautiful and fun

Th
Review №16

January 24th Abbey Road performance was without merit for two reasons:1. Sound was distorted giving drums and instrumentals priority over vocals. Somewhat improved after intermission then reverted back. Violinist solo was not heard at all in row Q orchestra until all other instruments halted.2. Vocalists seemed to be just going through the motions. Robotic, without feeling. If we didn’t have to wait for friends, we would have left at intermission. In the future more rehearsals are needed.

Modern, clean design and fun to descend from the Randolph entrance. Its like being part of a secret club. A light installation follows you on your journey downward and theres a small art gallery in the hallway on the theaters main level. Very much enjoyed my experience!

The music was wonderful, but I did not like the theater, all the way down in the basement. Kind of dark, industrial looking. But the music was wonderful.

Aa
Review №20

The theater itself is very nice - its basically built into the ground so when you enter off of Randolph, you are entering at the top of the balcony section. Its a great setup to have good sight-lines for everyone and still have a building that doesnt impose on the park. Its adjacent to the Millennium Parking Garage so getting to and from the theater is easy. The layout of the theater is fairly typical with steeper seating the further you get from the stage. However, aisles are wider so getting around is easier. Given that one of our group has a wheelchair, it was nice that in laying out the theater theres disabled seating (both wheelchair and transfer types) throughout each seating price-point and not just in the back of the theater as is often typical. The Harris also gives (at least for the performance we attended) a slight price break for the disabled and companion seats. It was a nice nod to the fact that some people have no choice but bring a helper along. While the show we saw was very good and the seating in a nice area, the staff was what stands out in my mind. Everyone we interacted with knew their job, was helpful, and proactive. From e-mailing the Accessibility Services Department to leaving the theater after the performance made it seem like they dealt with extra needs every day - nothing brought a, let me check on that.As an example, when we first arrived at the Harris, we talked with a staff member we needed to go for our tickets. She pointed us to the elevator to go down to Level 1. When we were getting off the elevator, another staff member was there and I heard her say, I have them. They made things easy and that our situation was normal. We dont get to feel like that a lot.At the end of the day, the Harris Theater is a great place to see a performance. Its easy to see the stage, its easy to get around the theater, and the people there are extremely helpful. Youll have a wonderful experience.

My wife and I recently attended a performance from the Music of the Baroque series. It was a wonderful to hear Haydn & Mozart played by such an accomplished and talented group, Allison Balsom was phenomenal! (I only wish she couldve played a little longer). My criticism is that the balcony seats are way too close to each other from front to back. Im 6 and I had almost no leg room, it was worse than being in an airplane! Needless to say, I became very uncomfortable by the end of a two-hour concert. One bit if advice, do NOT forget to get your parking ticket validated at the theater if you drive there and park in the Millennium Park garage (huge cost difference!). Prolly better to take public transportation there anyway...

The Harris is a delightful theatre. We have now been twice to enjoy Music of the Baroque. The theatre itself is easily accessible, with wonderful sightlines for most all of the seats. I especially have enjoyed the attire of the ushers (black with an orange scarf - very classy). Its also great that they come out at intermission to sell beer, wine, and water. The Harris is truly one of the great things about living in Chicago.

Harris Theater is a great multi-purpose facility.A great feature is the on-site parking - completely avoids weather and other logistical issues. However, the on-site parking is priced highly.I gave three stars over four because the talent, though varied, is not always of the highest caliber, and leans a bit too much towards social issues. We attend theater to be entertained, not for exposure to social issues.

Im not really a theater person, but Ive gone to Harris Theater twice this year and have enjoyed each performance. The seating is set up so you can see the stage from every level. The ushers are helpful and in my experience pretty organized in directing us to our seats. The only comment that I have has nothing to do with the theater but more about the parking garages near the theater. You can park near the theater in Millennium Park garage but be aware of the level and space you dock your car as the garage is a bit confusing and does not have many signs that are helpful in finding your car.

If youve never been here before the fact that the theater is underground may surprise you. We were looking for a large building and circled Randolph street a couple of times before noticing the theater. Once inside the staff was kind and helpful. We sat in the balcony to watch an American Ballet performance and every seat seemed to be a good seat. Refreshment were overpriced, $4 for one semi-large cookie. All things considered wed definitely come here again.

The seats that fall under handicap accessible are the worst. Theyre just fold out seats. Review №70

This is a pretty nice theater, I attended several Chicago Ideas Week events here and the sight lines are pretty good. There are a lot of stairs that are hard concrete, and the elevators are somewhat limited. Street level is above the upper balcony level, and the main floor seating is three levels down. Restrooms seemed somewhat small for the size of the venue. Seats were a good width but the armrests are very awkward, too high to be comfortable (I am about 56) and if you bring your elbows into your sides, the armrest is hard and presses into your upper arm.

I really like this space. You enter at street level where the ticket windows are, and the orchestra level is actually down a few stories. There arent any awful seats. A lot of it is terraced, so you dont have to worry about tall people blacking your view, etc. Drinks for sale in the lobby before the show and you can take it to your seat. The ushers were very friendly.
