We were visiting Cheyenne WY and wanted to take our dog Nugget for a walk. We found Holiday Park which has the Big Boy steam engine thereVery nice park with a lake, tennis courts, volleyball, and a kids playground. You can walk around the lake and plenty of places for a picnic lunch. The steam engine is there and it is one of several of the largest engines ever built. One thing to mention is there is parking at the park and across the street. If you park accross the street there is a pedestrian tunnel that goes under the road to get to the park

Very cool to be able to see one of the eight remaining largest steam engines ever built. It is stored in a beautiful a park in Cheyenne. Theres not much you can do other than look at the fenced in train and read about the Big Boy on a board, but still definitely worth visiting if you are in the area.

When it comes to old trains, 4004 is the biggest out there! And as far as static displays of Big Boys goes this one is easier to get to than the one in Omaha. Plus it isnt far from down town so not out of the way to see!

A favorite train of my sons. We were so happy to unexpectedly find this train on a quick trip to Cheyenne. Would have loved to have been able to take pics without the fence, but it was great to see it in such great condition.

They say only 8 of 25 Big Boys built are still around. Heck, I saw 27 on this trip alone and I wasn’t even looking for them. I have one in my backyard. Not in my area backyard, my actual backyard. I stole it, borrowed it, Engine #4999. Logistics were a little tricky, but I was determined to make it work. Don’t tell Union Pacific, cause I’m not giving it back. Neat train display in a mediocre park. My display is better.

The steam engine is in a park near the UP Steam shop and the Cheyenne Muesuem for trains as well. The train is near the tennis courts in side a half height fence, so you cant touch the train. Its huge as most people know. This area of Wyoming has been getting lots of rain so the grass is swampy now. There is an entrance to a parking lot on the south west side. It is surrounded by busy roads. Kids had a great time.

A very important and impressive display of locomotive history located 3 minutes from the heart of downtown Cheyenne. This huge steam locomotive cannot be described with words or pictures in terms of of its immense size and footprint. If youre into steam trains or the role they played in this part of the country, you need to go to Cheyenne and see this thing in person

One of a few remaining 4-8-8-4 steam engines Union Pacific had to move freight over the mountains of the west. Its certainly seen better days but its there and mostly in one piece, although it appears to be undergoing continued restoration and upkeep. Its just off the road in Holliday Park and something to see in an important railroad town.

Union Pacific 4004 Big Boy is worth the visit . 8 of the 25 made are still in existence. This little part of history is well honored here. The park setting is nice and the dog possible enjoyed the situation as much as I did. It would be interesting to get a second engine on display being so near such a major section of historical rail track. Make sure you also see the station, its a beautiful building.

One of eight. . period. Not in known existance just built. . and what a Herculean endevour. . and to think i have accidentally bagged all but half in my travels makes me tingle with delight. . . most bang for your buck is Cheyene wyoming. One 4004 sits humble and magnificent to the elements at holiday park. . while in the hollowed steam shack of UP opperational hub behind the auto parts store is the only opperational bigboy in the world . . the 4014 is a laviathan whose black heart still gurgles with the equivelent steam power of 2 nuculeur reactors. . .and with the challenger- comprise numbe one and two largest operational engines in the whole world! @$!:&? In any language- train nuts come in the know come from all directions to the mecca of mechanical wonderment. cosidering how hard it is to find a welcome way into the nearby steamshackvwithout a friend from highscool who happens to work there, scoffing, see it everyday like he is wearing searsucker onstead of pinstripes- youor luck in the scedule search for depot days for best results comes down to production schedule and luck- the elite and mysterious dream team crew that makes the magic in tgousands if manhours per mile on the one remaining bigboy that runs, and the last challenger, all reside here in thier special batcave in chyenne as headquarters. Romour may have it, there are only five in all of UP . . A shame that these master boilermakers dont have baseball cards or tshirts out to mark the shear respect in wroght-iron-whispering they truely deserve. I. Would print them in German, Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish and Russian fullsized steam dream posters so these beautiful people get the chops they deserve. And bless union Pacific for keepiing this very expensive project on the corperate teet- the british havw come closest in ups mighty shadow- there really is something poetic and beautiful happening here most folks dont understand. . . and well holiday park has a piece if that testimony between the tennis couts and the olympic sized hourse shoe pitch
