Ive always been a big fan of this place, from fishing to camping to hiking this place rocks! We try to go up once a week and hike the trails. We tend to stay away from the hidden falls hike because its usually pretty full of other adventurers. The scenic overlook is another awesome destination that few hike to, so definitely check that out as well. You can get a free trail map from the pay booths and the visitor center. Happy hiking!!!

Lake is Nice, the camp sites are clean and well maintained.Beautiful Sunrise and Sunsets! Relaxing and good room between campsites! The two things that kept it from being 5 stars is:Very open, no shade because of very little tree cover! And there is no waste dump on site!Lucky there is a FREE dump site on I-80 4 miles from the Colorado/Wyoming border.

There are several camping areas within the park. This review is only for the Jerres Haven area. The scenery from this area is wonderful but the spots are awful. All rock. No grass. No trees. We had just as well parked on a gravel road. After staying in campgrounds from Oregon to Iowa, these are the most unlevel sites of any camping spot. We had to raise the tongue about 1 1/2 feet just to level the camper not to mention putting about 4 of planking under one side. Very disappointed. We did stay in Happy Jack one month before and was very happy there.

Curt Gowdy State Park is a great place to getaway and relax, even as someone who doesn’t mountain bike or fish which seem to be the main draws I still had an excellent experience here. With a little planning and research you can pick a camping site away from your neighbors with some great views, its quiet, scenic, and theres plenty of hiking opportunities. Plan for wind as always and enjoy! Prices do seem high relative to national forest campgrounds but hey its a state park they’ve gotta maintain. If I had a recommendation it would be to give the bathrooms just a little extra TLC and to change check in from 3pm to 1 or 2 pm. Its a big park so im assuming its to allow time for inspection/cleanup. Check out Curt Gowdy!

Enjoyed a 4+ mile hike today and brought our dogs. Beautiful area and mostly shaded. Park & hike. Please keep dogs on a leash, although you feel yours may be fine off leash its not allowed. Others on a leash may not be OK with a strange dog running up to them causing a fight and knocking the on leash dogs owner onto the ground... Yes this happened today But, it still was a lovely walk. Lots of wildflowers too!

Crystal lake and our camp site was fantastic. Its perfect for Paddle boarding and kayaking. Our camp site was clean and level. The pit toilets were close and clean. The road down from Granite was extreme washboard. Lay some gravel WSP. We were packing up to leave and at 11:07 the chatty park ranger had to stop me and harass me about not being done, and getting charged another day and the next camper blah blah blah. You saw me packing up, and could have skipped the lecture and let me get back at it. No dump station at a state park was also disappointing.

We were greatly disappointed in the Curt Gowdy State Park camping. The high ratings are not justified when compared to their peers in other states. While we loved the reservoirs and the general scenery, the facilities and actual camp sites were subpar. We stayed at the Crystal Reservoir which was 4.5 miles down the worst rutted dirt road we have ever driven. (It reminds me of the Outback of Australia.) It beats the heck out of your vehicle and generates a lot of dust. Most of the campsites are close to the dirt road so everything gets covered in dust in no time. Locals drive fast of the road which makes the dust even more unbearable. We stained our clothes by sitting at the picnic table.Their toilet facilities are really spread out. Also access to drinking water is poor. There are flush toilets and pay showers but only at the reception building when you enter the park. We only found out about the showers on our last day by accident. We did enjoy the hike behind the reservation building. It was well worth taking and much better than the ones we tried at Crystal. For the high fees charged, Wyoming needs to invest in the Park’s infrastructure. Top of the list would be paving all 4.5 miles of poor dirt road. Second would be adding some flush toilets and showers at convenient locations at all reservoirs. We will never come back to this park in its current poor state. It is a shame since the park could be a top showcase attraction for the state if it was up to national standards. Now it looks like a poor cousin compared to Windmill State Park in Nebraska, which even costs less and has top of the line facilities.

Nice location, ease of access from where we live in Colorado. But I felt the fees we paid were too much for the amenities offered or what we could take advantage of. Weather in this area can also be a major concern, as we had to leave early on account of the tent-flattening wind we experienced.

Review №13

Non-residents beware! First time at Curt Gowdy & we loved our campsite, the hiking and the reservoirs to kayak on. However no where in our reservation or on the website did we see anything about needing a decal for our kayak. Coming from CO and not needed it there and no information given to us on our reservation, we were not prepared for the $20 per kayak we were charged by Ts Essential Camping. (camp store) What would have been a great weekend was marred by feeling we were taken advantage of. And please dont tell me about the flashing sign on I25 as you cross the border; who can read any flashing sign going 65 mph up a highway? I would have given the park a 5 star if we would have been informed and ready for the inspection & charges. Not informing visitors before they get to the park about this charge, is really dropping the ball on organization and welcoming visitors. And it put a damper on the weekend.

This was a pretty nice state park to visit. I liked that I could bring my leashed dogs (though they wished they could have gone in the reservoirs, but no big deal). I drove up from CO and liked that it was a pretty short drive to get there. I saw a coyote, which was cool.

My kids and I love Curt Gowdy! We usually take the trail to the hidden falls but, this last time we went we walked around the lake. I love how the camping areas are set up. The park itself is gorgeous! We took an excursion on the Hidden Falls trail, approx. 6 miles round trip.FYI bring exact change of either $6 (wyoming resident) or $9 (out of state) for the day use fee. While the park has a ranger on duty, she was worthless and too busy yapping on her cell phone. She could not make change, didnt have maps, so just sitting on her behind collecting a paycheck.Anyway, its a wonderful place for a family outing, my sons are 4 and 3 and they navigated the terrain just fine.

One of the best parks we have been to. The spot that we had was on a private little peninsula. It provided for a very quiet and relaxing night under the stars. Winds from the West started up around 2AM that swayed us to a deep sleep. The site shown is GP155. RMNP is a fairly short drive from here. We stayed the next two nights in Estes Park and the wife kept commenting how Curt Gowdy was so much better. If we had to do it all over again, I would have booked 3 nights here and skipped our cramped Estes Park stay.

Really wished I would have been informed that they closed the showers, as I would have made different plans. 6 days here with no dump station on site, no water hook up at my site, and now no showers for $35 a night. Extremely disappointed. Seeing that I have had a reservation since June, an email with this information would gave been nice. Nothing on your website, Facebook, or any where I can find that you have shut down your only running water facilities. Ugh.

Gorgeous. Friendly and helpful staff while calling for information. We stayed at one of the 80 primitive sites; show up, claim, and go pay ($9 day + $16 overnight fee, out of state prices). All sites seem to be positioned with great views of the lakes. No swimming but kayaks and jet skis allowed. Ranger drove around several times checking on everyone and shutting off generators after 10pm. New visitors center with very nice shower rooms. On the weekends a man has several trailers set up selling ice, firewood, sodas, popsicles, and camp supplies.

On the upside, this park is conveniently located for a layover, it is in an interesting area of rock outcroppings and has a lot of very nice hiking trails. On the downside, the park does not provide any dump station at all, there does not seem to have been much effort if any to level the sites, and the staff seems evenly split between very nice / helpful and really don’t care.

The hike up to hidden falls was awesome! We had made reservations for our spot nearly 2 months ahead of time. The people before us failed to check out at 11 so we hiked to kill time when we came back some young adults had taken over our spot and when asked to leave they made threats and tried to start a fight. The park was amazing but the issues with our spot caused us to leave before we finished our reservation. 5 stars for the park 1 star for organization and presence of authority.

Really cool place with a ton of activities to do from multiple mountain bike areas, fishing spots, hiking, two reservoirs to take boats/kayaks/paddle boards on. The camping is reservation only though and the spots are quite close in some of the sections but those were mostly RV hookups. They also have a camp store for things you forgot to bring like enough firewood or ice. Family friendly with playground areas spread throughout the park as well.

No ranger on duty, no maps available. Trails are poorly marked and bikers were running people off of seriously narrow trails when there was no where for other hikers to move over. The ranger gave me a citation despite having a disabled veteran plate and no one was wiping down or emptying the fee box. No one who was parked illegally on the road got a citation, just me, a disabled veteran. Thats unacceptable on any day but especially memorial day. Guess you prefer to kowtow to the paying customers and let them break the rules but go after a disabled veteran who had the sense enough to arrive early enough in the day to get a parking spot. A legal one. Considering the proximity to FE Warren Id think youd be more veteran friendly. I would have been happy to show my pass but they didnt have anyone on duty to show it too. You obviously had someone on duty to give me a citation. You should staff that person at the pay station instead of having them going around targeting veterans.

The summer and good weather spring and fall days are crowded and windy. (Especially post-covid.) They have many campsites but most are in windy locations. Fishing is average (good chance to catch tiny trout) but windy. Great mountain biking trails except its always windy. They have a really cool archery range and course but its always windy. There is a somewhat less-windy spot that is usually packed with SUPers (because its the only somewhat sheltered area.) They have a boat ramp but its a tiny lake, so most boaters go elsewhere. The size of the lake is more appropriate for kayaking or canoeing, except its windy all the time. Curt Gowdy is nice, but isnt great.
