Very interesting, if you are into the time period from 1890-1910. The original houses are well maintained, but go on a cool day, as there is no air conditioning. There is a nice pavilion with picnic tables, so we ate our lunches there. It takes a couple of hours to see the open buildings. The old school was really fun. And, there is a YouTube based your that you can watch on your device.

I wanted to take my class here on a field trip. I emailed the village in January to reserve a date in April and was told it was open and we would be able to go that day. However, when I emailed them to double check on our day in March, the day we had reserved was no longer available as they had booked someone else instead. I was really excited to take my class here and learn about the village, the one room school house, and other things, but we are now unable to as they went back on what they originally said. I am very disappointed in this and hope it doesnt happen to anyone in the future.

My two year old son and I came here on a random Thursday and we were the only ones here for most of our stay. It was nice and quiet but some of the buildings were not open and I would have liked to go in the general store and hotel, in particular. Fortunately we dont live far from here and it only cost a couple dollars to get in. Some parts of it needs some TLC (some of the ramps especially) but for the most part is a really neat historical area! We will be going again sometime when there is an event out there. Its a nice spacious area with lots of neat buildings and antique items.

Our daughter and her family live near Ushers Ferry Historic Village so when we visit, we usually walk down to the Village with our grandchildren. The buildings have been beautifully restored and work continues on the restoration. The sidewalks and walkways are new and special needs accessible. There is a large gazebo in the center of the village. At various times during the summer, special events are held on the grounds of the park/museum. You feel like you are stepping back in time when you wander through the area.

Ushers Ferry was great to work with in the beginning. We booked the venue and we were able to stay on their old contract as they had just updated it. A month or so before our wedding, I emailed our contact and she let me know that she was retiring THAT week. We were not informed of this in a timely manner and all of a sudden has to update someone brand new on everything we had planned. This was quite inconvenient since there was no planning done on their part with this employee retiring. The second person we worked with worked very diligently to make sure everything was ready to go for us and that our event ran smoothly. However, on the night of our wedding, a last call announcement was made by our DJ without our approval; turns out it came from the part time employee that was assigned our event that evening. We had to fight and argue and finally pull out our contract to find out that she didn’t even know we were on an old contract. With that, this venue lacked a lot of communication on many people’s part which caused a lot of frustration on our end. On a good note, the venue was absolutely gorgeous and made for a beautiful backdrop for our pictures.

A great place for a relaxing walk. Historic buildings are well kept. Beautiful picture opportunities. Kids loved to learn about how different life was years ago. They also have a great summer and spring camps problems. Only thing I would love to see the to make it a 5-star place would be a restaurant to buy food at.

Went to a wedding and parking was a joke. Arrived half an hour early to find the lot full and other acceptable parking areas not marked at all. Several announcements had to be made by the DJ about moving vehicles. Poor planning and coordination for an event center that should obviously be anticipating a crowd.

The buildings and the grounds were really interesting and worth a walk through, but the staff was rude and unprofessional. When we arrived mid-morning (during their oddly limited open times), hours after they had opened for the day, the visitor’s center and many of the buildings were locked. The employee eventually showed up, but instead of greeting us she immediately accosted me about my camera, wanting to know how I intended to use the photos I took. She provided no information about the village or anything else, other than expressing how frazzled she was with the demands of the job. As there were only four other visitors present and no other duties other than unlocking the doors, it was hard to empathize. We did enjoy our time once we got away from her, although the numerous locked doors proved annoying. This place has a long way to go to become something people may actually want to visit regularly.

We had our daughters wedding reception at Ushers Ferry Lodge this August and were very happy with the venue. There are quite a few rules that the staff expects you to follow and are outlined in the contract. The staff was helpful in allowing us access to the venue ahead of time in order to plan our decorations and make sure our slide show would work and other details. The evening of the reception we felt the staff member there was more meticulous than we had expected but we were able to get it cleaned to her satisfaction and got our deposit back. Overall we were pleased with our interactions with the staff. Having the reception at Ushers Ferry was one of the better decisions that we made in planning the wedding. We are very thankful to have such a beautiful venue available.

Cedar Rapids needed another classy event venue and The Lodge at Ushers Ferry delivers! Beautiful venue and attentive staff. From the soaring post and beam ceiling to all the windows looking out to the woods, to the indoor-outdoor fireplace and patio space, we loved the whole vibe of The Lodge. We held a wedding reception there in late spring and it was perfect. Winifreds catering said the kitchen was well laid out and spacious. (fyi...they did a fantastic job!) We had about 200 people and there was room for tables, dancing, a beer/wine bar, cake area, and food stations. The staff was professional and accommodating. Our daughter and her new husband were extremely happy with their special day. I attended a smaller wedding and reception held in The Lodge later in the summer, and it was also a wonderful ceremony and party. The bride and groom were married in front of the gorgeous fireplace, the room lay-out had a great flow, and the feel of The Lodge was just perfect for their intimate event. Again, they were thrilled with how it all went! We know of two more couples happily planning their receptions at The Lodge. We highly recommend this venue!

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Came here for an appointment with my mother to look at the facility for my upcoming wedding as a possible venue. We got to the welcome center where we were told to meet. We were 10 minutes early, we waited till after our appointment time to give her a call to see if she was running late, no answer. While we were waiting two ladies came into the welcome center and we decided to go wait outside to see if Cathy was outside the building. Cathy finally showed up 10 minutes late to our appointment and started chatting with the other ladies that were in the welcome center. We approached Cathy in hopes we could start our tour but she still kept chatting with the ladies and ignored us. We all started walking to the lodge to see the inside. My mother and I gave ourselves a tour while the ladies were still chatting. It took 5 minutes for my mom to get Cathy’s attention to ask about the lodge and once she finally gave my mom the time of day she was so rude! We were so done. We both walked out. It’s so unfortunate because it WAS the perfect venue. I’d NEVER recommend this place to anyone!!

My wife and I had our wedding here and were the last one to before the flood of 2008. A lot has been improved since we went back for a recent visit in 2015. They are open for the public a lot of the time but have specific tours only during the summer. I would highly recommend going when they have tours though, because what they have in each building is a great step into the past. Their website has more details and is worth checking out before visiting. They have special events quite frequently. Never had an issue with staff during our experiences. The lady we saw from 2008 actually remembered us in 2015 and was really nice.

Check the weather! Buildings can get stuffy, no air conditioning in this 15th century era of a Time Warp. Very informative and informational. You can learn about old telephones and primitive electricity. Old school buildings with a big bell outside that rings when the ghost children of the 15th century come to attend.

Ushers Ferry is beautiful and if you dont have to deal directly with the staff who run the grounds, then its worth visiting. We had our wedding there and although it was gorgeous, the staff made it bothersome. They were rude, difficult, and passive aggressive. We booked the grounds well in advance, but was not given a rehearsal time right away. They said they would contact us with that information. It came to about a couple of weeks until our wedding date and still no contact. I finally called them and still didnt get an exact time. She said she would call me back.....one week later. They talked over us when planning with our vendors we hired, and seemed impolite when we did not take their suggestions. Even on the wedding day, the lady would not stop following us around to tell us what to do and where to put things (suggestions, not required places). If you want someone nagging you and putting in their 2 cents worth on everything, these ladies are it.

DO NOT have your wedding here!!! I repeat...do not have your wedding here! They treated my cousin terribly on one of the biggest days of her life. Not only was the staff unprofessional and rude they made all of the guests leave an hour early. Their contract stated they had the place til 11pm and UF said they didnt care what the contract stated and called the police. Who does this?! So when they tried to get some of their money reimbursed they would not give a refund and made up all kinds of lies about their guests. It was a beautiful wedding/reception and they claim it was a drunken brawl. The bride and groom have video of their event which showed none of the events stated. Even the city of Cedar Rapids has sided with Ushers Ferry! Shame on you CR! You ruined this couples special day! I cant urge you enough to find another venue. Dont let this place ruin your day too!

DO NOT HAVE YOUR WEDDING HERE! The staff is rude, they yelled at our guests, lied to our faces, changed rules just days before our wedding and completely ruined our wedding. I spent a lot of money and time planning for over a year for a wedding only to have our day RUINED by this staff. It is so unfortunate, because this place is very beautiful. But my husband completely missed dinner because he was trying to work out details with staff members over our contract. My mother and mother in law missed very important moments because they were trying to deal with this incompetent staff. I have so many complaints, I dont even have time to go over every single detail because I have wasted too much of my time with this horrible experience. DO NOT RENT THIS FACILITY FOR YOUR WEDDING. A day that is supposed to be one of the best of your life will forever be tarnished because of the staff at Ushers Ferry. I am warning you to not believe a word Theresa White tells you when you sign that contract because when I stood in my wedding dress on the day of my wedding holding my contract she boldly told me she didnt care what my contract said, I needed to get off the property. Whats worse is the City of Cedar Rapids takes absolutely zero responsibility. I am beyond dismayed at what has happened to us.
