Ive had many great times and also many great shows in this cute little district, given that Im a local musician who plays 6 different instruments and have sat in or played in multiple great bands and acts around Cedar Rapids, Iowa USA. The one thing Ill always remember and hopefully fully enjoy about moving here is the wonderfully alive, blossoming, and real talent driven music scene in this great, little, hidden part of our great country! God Bless America!

If you are in Cedar Rapids stopping in Czech Village is a must : antique stores, retail stores for clothing and home decor, restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, etc. Theres also a gazebo and some really cool street/wall art where you can take pictures. Park the car and walk up and down the street. My favorites are Frolic, Moss, and Frolics.

Czech Village has a lot to offer. We stopped by the antique shop and a little sewing place with a bunch of knickknacks in it. Theres also a couple of restaurants down there pretty easy to make an afternoon out of it and just do a little side shopping and then get something to eat, which is nice, since youre already there.

This neighborhood is a delightful destination if you want to shop, go to restaurants or bars, or visit the very interesting museum. Many events are hosted here, year round. As you can see, I attended the holiday market at the museum. The whole neighborhood was bustling with people doing their Christmas shopping and enjoying the decorations. Czech Village is a must-see destination if you are visiting Cedar Rapids!

Cool little spot in CR. Contains local favorites like Lion Bridge Brewery and my personal favorite, SOKO outfitters. Plenty of antique/thrift shops as well. Sometimes its a bit difficult to tell whats open and whats not. Also stinks that the bridge is currently closed, but when that opens back up Im sure itll be an improvement.

I really enjoy this district, it is something that is both unique to CR (Czech Village) but also hipster/big city vibe (New Bo district). I appreciate a mixing of the new and the old. But one should not be emphasized over the other, and right now the connection between the two areas is weak and could be bolstered with more businesses and park areas. I also see more people on the New side and not as many on the old side. I think if they felt more connected people might more easily move between them. With Amazon and so many people shopping online, retail stores are not the type of businesses to be promoting. People now want to leave their homes to get experiences, whether it is food, drinks, or something more adventurous, say a climbing gym. Either way, to build the district there just needs to be more going on down there.

This was a fascinating area. The buildings were unique from new designs to rustic classical design. The street art was amazing. I worked in New Bohemia only for a little while before I decided to make it my home. Ive lived in the neighborhood for a few years now and I feel like the Cedar Rapids I grew up in has matured rapidly (Pun intended) into the the city I now live in and the revitalization of the core districts like NewBo and the Czech village has played a huge role in that growth. Im happy to call this neighborhood home and Im excited to see how things continue to improve in the future.

Im not sure the identity of this district. Is it Czech, is it creative? I know they are trying to grow the area, and lately, the Czech Village side has started to look better. Another thing that I have noticed is that originally new buildings tried to harmonize with the existing vibe of the neighborhood. Now developers have begun to drop in cookie cutter design found in any North American city, losing the feel and flavor of the neighborhood.

The Czech Slovak museum is really great and reminds me of the summers I spent visiting family in southern Poland, right on the Czech border. Its only $10 and has a lot to see. Otherwise the actual village is only a block of bars and antique shops. The antique shops are great, but I recommend visiting them during the week in the middle of the day. Sikoras Bakery is ok, but not the same as the kolaches I ate in Ostrava or the ones sold at the Polish bakeries in Chicago.

Just off 1-380 is a street known a Cedar Rapids Czech Village. One block south of the national Czech/Slovak Museum, a visit here will round out your day. Start your taste at the bakery and grab a fresh baked Kolach or other authentic goods from this generational-owned family business. A stop at the meat market for made-to-order authentic Czech goulash served with hearty brown bread and Czech beer will fill you warmly in true Prague fashion. Use the rest of the afternoon to walk up to the Village fins Czech gift shop filled with beautiful glittering items hand-imported by the owner from Prague and then work your way down through the mixture of local arts and crafts shops, Czech antique shop and the several other treasure shops. Unfortunately, the district is not pure with bars and some inauthentic restaurants, but especially for those with Czech heritage you keep a keen eye you can experience a taste of Prague in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
