Would have been 5 stars except the Visiting Center and Museum have been closed since March and Google refuses to list it as such. I have submitted an edit and as of yet has not been updated. I will update this post when that has changed. The good news is you can still park at the parking lot to the north of the dam and walk up to the lookout above the dam which is still pretty amazing... Photos attached!! Update; 10/9/2020 Edit has be accepted and listing has been changed to :Temporarily Closed, Thank you google for your quick response. Upgraded from 3 to 4 stars. You can still walk around the facility and check out the overlook, just impossible to do now if your in a wheel or mobility chair due to the parking lot next to the Visiting Center being closed to the public as well.

Staffs at visitor center are very friendly, nice and helpful. The area is well managed, clean, in orderly maker. There are many parking with picnic tables and clean restrooms...I would rate it 6 star if there is one One piece of advice, you will need insect repellent if you want to go to the over look area of the dam...too many tiny bugs up there!

What a privilege it was to be able to visit the Allatoona Dam and Museum while they were releasing the excess water from the lake! The museum gives the history of the creation and purpose of the dam, and information about the wildlife and recreational opportunities around Lake Allatoona. The museum is located above of the dam, and the bottom of the dam can be viewed from the area down by Coopers Furnace.

A beautiful, fairly short, hike that rewards you with a truly gorgeous view. Always be sure to pick a day with relatively low humidity as even a short hike can make you feel pretty awful on a humid day.
