Love walking or running the trails at Batiquitos. Dog friendly, mostly flat trail with lots of places to stop, rest, & soak in the peaceful scenery. Plenty of dog bag and trash spots too and they have water dish by the main entrance for dogs. Or, hike the hill trails for more of a challenge. But truly, not too hard, good amounts of shaded areas, great for families. 3 miles total if you walk the main trail all the way down & back.

Peaceful (if you can ignore the freeway noise on the West end) place to get into nature and experience what the coastal environment looked like pre-development (if you squint and ignore the signs of development everywhere). Birders are in for a feast of shore birds and raptors. A great place to go for a run or hike with the whole family.

We love going on the Batiquitos Lagoon hike. Weve been twice already! Its so beautiful and we love learning about the wildlife there. Youll see herrings, a bird that sits on the lagoon, and a wood rat den along the trail. Its dog friendly and Ive seen many kids there. Definitely recommend!!

We love walking our dog at the lagoon. The trail is perfect, the morning people are friendly, and there are plenty of places to rest if we need to. Also, the nature center has a bowl out on the side for the puppies to get a drink of water. The only bummer is that dogs can’t be off leash. It makes sense because of the wildlife preservations efforts, but we just wish our well-behaved pup could run a little more freely. Shout out to Ranger Jerry, though! That guy is the coolest!!

I was pleasantly surprised on how lovely the Batiquitos Lagoon Trail was.The Nature Center is very informative as there are many displays and the staff is more than happy to help you.Starting at the entrance of the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation Nature Center- round trip is 3.25 miles.Though you can hear the freeway, if you can make yourself tune it out, you will hear the sweet music of a large variety of birds. In fact, you will find many covered benches a long the trail which are perfect for birdwatching. One of the things I enjoyed most, was encountering a gigantic Canary Island Date Palm Tree. There were 4 other trees growing out of its trunk. I can only imagine how old it is. You have to see it to believe it.

Batiquitos Lagoon Trails are a great place for a walk or run, and for watching the birds and other activity in the lagoon. Often, it feels far from the urban areas that surround the area. Dirt surface, sometimes with wood chips; it can have muddy spots after (infrequent) rain.Dogs permitted on leash. No cycling (the surface is quite fragile).
