First time to this trail. Can see its used by people, dogs, and horses. Spent the morning out here with pups and had it all to ourselves. The first rest area by the lake was very muddy nearly got stuck lol. The next one was much better with rocks and could go further into the lake. Trail winds along the river and some nice shade for rest breaks. Definitely will be back.
Just not exciting. It’s a non-paved road next to the lake. No natural beauty. Non-eventful. Perhaps it’s a great alternative to a 0.5 mile paved trail in the park, but aside from a decent length, there is nothing there.
A hidden gem! You can bring yourself, family even horses! There is a picnic area with a BBQ grill. Plenty of parking for vehicles and trailers
Great hike thats mostly flat. Just over 6 miles round trip. No bathrooms and its pack in, pack out.
This is an awesome place to relax with family and friends along with dogs and horses. I do suggest that if you are not familiar with the lake. Please walk with your horses and dogs before riding through the water on the days that you cant see the bottom. There are some large rocks that cant always be seen. I do also suggest closed toe water shoes for safety.. Bring your camera for all the absolutely gorgeous pictures you will want to take.
Great free access to canyon lake. Tide changes throughout season, so beware. Horses will regularly be there, as it is a horse trail first and foremost. If you have a problem with LOTS of horses in and out of the water, along with manure smell (not bad with a breeze from the lake) then its a nice quiet lake spot with plenty of sun, so bring shade.
Really nice place to take a ride with your horses.
Ok. We didnt get to ride our horses. Next time.
Nice hike, with good water access for the dog.
Pet friendly
I was actually on the water but the view i had was very beautiful
Fun in the sun.
Go early when its cool. Bring horses water. Nice picnic spot. Great place to swim with horses!
Always fun riding near the lake! Great place top go on hot days cause you can go swim to cool off...
Nice peaceful nature Trail walk with my bestie.
Great trail! You can hike, bike, run, or horse ride on this trail. BYOH (bring your own horse). About 3.6 miles one way and over 7 miles round trip.
We visited the trail on 11/23/16. Right of the bat the park gate was closed and we thought that the trail was not accesible. Since the entrance didnt have a sign and was not kept well we almost left. Fortunately we found another entrance and we were able to ride the trails on a MTB and on a CX bike. The trail is not particularly technical. It has about three rocky drops and some sections were the rocks were pretty sharp and rough. There is a rocky spot that is scenic and has a good view of Canyon Lake. The trail seem like it would be a great route for horseback riding!
Dog friendly, warm, clean water
Beautiful views and nice equestrian trails!
