Only an HR away from Midland but worth the drive. The grass REALLY is Greener a few minutes away from the Permian Basin. Because of the lockdown we have been looking for ways to get out of the house (SAFELY), and the Big Spring National Park was the perfect getaway. Big Spring is a small tiny town and the national park brings an amazing sense of peace to this specific area away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Despite it being the middle of July the weather wasnt too hot and we truly enjoyed the hike. I would personally recommend taking the scenic view first to get acquainted with the area. We made the mistake of parking and hiking without knowing the trail and ended up walking UPHILL for at least half a mile. Although, I will admit it was GREAT cardio! The area also has a playground, restroom, parking and picnic/rest area. It is perfect for all ages. Would love to come back during fall when the sun isnt too hot. 10/10 would recommend.

Beautiful and clean. You can peacefully walk through the trails. Many, many locals walk the loop (even in 100 degree temps), so be cautious when driving.

This is where myself and other folks go to walk the dog and enjoy the nature of the environment. You can clear your head or come up with good ideas or just walk and and talk with your God.

The views are incredible, if the parking at the front is full drive just a little ways in, ON THE WALKING/DRIVING TRAIL and you will see a second parking spot to your right. There is another parking lot at the top of the trail. I walk against the flow of traffic so I can see it. Driving is ONE WAY. Its hot in the summer, to walk the whole trail in the summer you should be in somewhat good shape.

Adjacent to the state park is the Big Spring Vietnam veterans Memorial Plaza. the memorial highlights individuals that are from Big Spring and that served during the Vietnam era. Static displays include 2 helicopter s and a fighter jet. A good place to visit and maybe have your lunch.

Not much to see, as it offers a nature trail that is only .38 miles. Needs repairs, but has a nice ledge view of the town on its road. The Ranger at visitors center was super friendly and one of the best Ive encountered.

We enjoyed this park, but were disappointed by the hype associated with it. If you live in Big Spring, Im sure its a great option because of the convenience. The views are nice and its well maintained. However, if youre traveling to get here, dont let your expectations be too high. Stop by Comanche Trail Park while youre in the area and check out the spring to make your trip even more worthwhile!

No where else in West Texas can you see for hundreds of miles, as you can from the top of Scenic Mountain. I still love the nature trail and to walk all the way around the mountain. There are tiny fossils of sea life at the very top. Intriguing remnants of the Permian Sea. I wish the prairie dog town of my childhood was still here:)

When I visited they were doing renovations of the visitor center so I was only able to drive through and that was about it. Seems like a great little park for Day use, but other than that, not sure what else this park would be used for honestly. It is great if your are local, but other than that, for a brief stop headed out to west Texas, that is really about it.

During a brief trip to Big Spring, I had the opportunity to spend a half hour or so walking the nature trail here. Its short but scenic, and it was impeccably clean; this was a pleasant surprise considering the plastic trash that seemed omnipresent throughout much of the region. The view from the bluff overlooking the city was also unexpectedly nice. Residents of Big Spring are lucky to have such a well-maintained park so close by, and visitors to the area shouldnt forgo a visit!

This is a day use only state park that sits on a great overlook to the city of Big Spring. There was no one to get a pass from at the entrance or in the park office so I chose to not fret over it. Theres a good playground for the kids and a covered picnic area too. The bathrooms are a mixture of normal and chemical. Theres also a prairie dog town near it. Its fun to take a look at but we were unable to locate it this trip.
