Adventure Playground is a classic place to play for Berkeley kids. Earn a hammer by cleaning up found nails. Then hammer away until youve made your own Lost Boys fortress. Beautiful beach front, marina location with great park and nature center. Watch the boats launch from a breezy picnic table.

Really awesome experience going to Adventure Playgroud with my 6 years old boy. He use magnetic tools to find the nails, use hammer and other tools, then also work on paints. There is also an amazing zip line and we were lucky as it was for 6 years and old. The small boat in the middle looks fun and he enjoying it. The old piano was awesome addition for music. Everything here is rusty and old but very unique experience and the place is also really cool and friendly.

The highlight of my childhood. pure ecstasy running around building and giggling, scratching that itch for freedom that all kids have. such a rarity nowadays to let kids have objectively dangerous fun, but a necessity i believe and you kid wont wanna come back inside or pick up an ipad as long as this place is an option. god bless adventure playground!

My kids favorite place in Berkeley. They could spend good 3-4 hours easily here. They keep themselves very busy with building forts with boards and also hammering away. Great way to be creative with building materials. A little bit of supervising for safety (using nails and hammers), its a great place for kids to experiment. The zipline there is an icing on the cake! All the staffs & volunteers Ive met are so friendly and dedicated. Ive noticed that they were always very patient with kids. This is one of those places that I would recommend to visit and experience while visiting SF bay area with kids in age of 6 to 13. Its now much harder to find this sort of kids playground in US.

Great for the 4 and up set! Not for the overly protective parent as there are nails, saws and lots of opportunities for splinters:) I liked that they had a system for earning your nails and tools by picking up old nails/splinters you find! Make sure everyone has their tetanus shot;) it was really cool to see the older kids plan and then build something, and hilarious to watch the younger kids saw right through a handrail

Went here with my siblings and I was amazed by how they actually created the place using junk yard materials, my only concern is that I saw many little kids walking around with giant sharp saws and cut pieces of block and hammering nails which were extremely dangerous the painting the blocks and walls were fine but giving little kids saws? Anyways had a great view of the bay and the water and was overall pretty fun. Cool zip line even tried it myself, although wished there was a staff there to give those kids a hand.

Visited for the first time in June 2019. Had a nice picnic at the park, and then took our toddler to play on the playground. Theres also a big tree with low-hanging branches thats fun for the bigger kids to climb. An adventure park on the Berkeley marina. Its a place where kids build things from wood and other scraps. Kids actually get creative by using hammers, nails, and cutting wood... this takes them away from cell phones and movies....The views are beautiful since its in the marina. You can have a nice picnic or use the grills located in the park to grill on the beach. Its a well kept park.

A surreal, anti-establishment playground. The Adams family would have given this a place thumbs up. Walking around it made me chuckle. Clever use of discarded objects. I wish they could periodically rent it out to paintball enthusiasts and taggers to give it much needed color. I gave it 4 stars because some of the climbing areas were repetitive. I could see them getting more creative.

One of the treasures of the Bay Area. My daughter absolutely loves this place. Its somewhat hard to put into words exactly what this place is but children can paint, build, create and explore to their hearts content. Theyre able to earn tools and learn how to use them all in a very open ended environment with little to no preconceptions as to what theyre supposed to do. And while first time visiting parents might wonder just how safe this place is for their children, Im happy to say that in talking profesionally with the folks that run the playground, injuries beyond your normal childhood cuts and bruises are exceedingly rare.

Grandkids loved the play area. Climb the rope nets. Play on and in old boats (smaller fishing boats). Find nails with magnets to earn the use of tools. Parents are kind of useful for helping with the tools. They have hammers, saws and clamps to earn for nails found. Paint seems to be a finger paint watered down. I felt reminded of how we used to build forts in our younger days. Every town should have a place like this for kids. Oh yes, they do have a splinter station and bandaids there too. So play pirates or builders. Parents need to be present and sign a waiver. Thanks to the volunteers that watch over that place too.

Cant believe this place is 100% free! Amazing fun for school age kids. You start by earning tools (hammers, nails, saws, paint) by returning dangerous items like loose nails, wood splinters, or trash. Once youve earned your tools, there are dozens of in progress kid-built forts, structures, and vehicles that can be added to with tons of scrap lumber available throughout the park. Very fun and creative outlet for kids to build a fort or anything else out of wood that theyve dreamed of.

Delightful Berkeley ramshackle fixture. Sign the waiver that promises you wont sue them for anything, then unleash your kids on a playground built of salvaged materials. If you clean-up some rusty nails, splinters or other dangerous stuff, theyll loan you a hammer, or handsaw, or a tub of paint. Take those tools a help build the park. Its wonderful to give kids a chance to explore and live a bit dangerously, all in the spirit of creative, collaborative play. Youll get dirty, covered in paint. The staff is very supportive, helping the kids accomplish their own goals in safe ways. This is one of the most Berkeley places out there.

My daughter (7) was so shocked by the sight of this playground she completely froze. After about 10 minutes of walking around she realised how much freedom and responsibility kids have here in comparison to an ordinary playground where usually kids are overprotected. I knew she would love this place ad she is an extremely creative kid. My son (5) has autism and at first he too was just trying to grasp what is going on around him. Soon he started looking for nails to get some paint (you get tools by trading in lost nails). They happily painted and hammered away for 3 hours. What fun!

A year ago, I took my daughter to this playground. I thought it would be a great experience for Diane, but once we got there, we had to pay, AND sign a waiver! We walked into the park and she went on a slide, and her pants got stuck on a nail. Then, she went on the zip line. While riding the zip line, Dianes foot got caught on the ground, causing her to trip and fall. I tried to argue with the staff, and explain to them that need to have more safety precautions, my daughter never would have gotten injured... this didnt work. They were extremely rude, i was ticked off by the fee, and my son and I left feeling incredibly upset. Do not recommend.
