There werent very many animals out the day we went. Didnt see a Giraffe, Elephant, Lion etc. Mostly saw birds, a few monkeys, one Tiger, that stayed hidden, and if youll look at the pictures I submitted, youll see ALL the animals we saw...the ONLY ones. Also, there were no train rides or tram rides. I understand Covid concerns but as far as the train and tram rides, all they had to do was seat people the were together in one section, skip a couple rows of seats and seat more people. It wasnt a very busy day, so that is just a suggestion to the staff, on the slow days. Even on busy days, it can be done with a little thought put into it on how we can make visitors happy and get what they paid for.

I love this zoo! It not only is close and local, its a favorite walking spot in town. The grounds are impeccable and the plantings diverse and well established. I love that all the major animals are represented and that our membership dues for our family are going towards conservation besides the animals care. I cant wait to see whats in store in the planned renovation of this valuable space.

Ive always loved the BREC zoo. Its priced right for the size. Its not overwhelming, we could see everything in a few hours while taking our time. Really nice bird enclosures, and some birds Ive never seen anywhere else; some of the Macaws can talk. If you go, dont miss the big cats, giraffes, rhinos, pygmy hippo, primates. Great for the whole family. Friendly staff. I could write so many good things. One of the best funnel cakes anywhere. If the train is running, its a fun little ride around the park and worth the extra few dollars.

This place is very fun for children and if you like something that will take a few hours. This isn’t a very large zoo so don’t expect all day to walk through. But it is a little fun extra thing to do. The lights at the zoo for Christmas are fun for the little ones and takes about 45 minutes to an hour to walk through the hole thing. Only a mile. The animals during the day are awesome to see and a great variety of small and large animals. The food is your typical hot dog and nachos food. The price to get in is reasonable and I believe it’s free if they are two years and under. I took my now wife on a date here years ago and we had a lot of fun. It’s something different and outdoors for a date. We now took our son here for the Christmas lights and it was fun. He got to see Santa and hang out with family. All around the Zoo here is not New Orleans large but big enough for a couple hours visit.

My kids had fun running around looking at the animals and learning about them. We were upset to learn how rude majority of the staff is. There weren’t many visitors when we went at all so I don’t believe they were just overwhelmed and being short. I am not local to the zoo so it was disappointing to drive 2 hours for that. It is not likely we will be back. How the staff treats visitors may make a huge impact on the overall visit. Unfortunately, we learned that here. I hope others have a pleasant experience at this zoo and the staff is better with other visitors.

One of my favorite zoos! The atmosphere is just great. Not too busy for the location so you can just relax and enjoy the experience. I love the natural feel of this place. There is vegetation and wildlife everywhere. The animal were so cool and well taken care of. We went around Halloween time and they had decorated and made it very festive. Amazing experience. My fiance and i found a peacock feather and they let us keep it! We went around the bird enclosures and the cockatoo that was back there started talking to us. It was amazing. While everyone walked passed this true gem of an animal we had the amazing experience of connecting vocally with an animal. And it even told us goodbye when we were walking away from it. Broke our hearts. Would love to go back just to spark a friendship with that bird. Truly worth the money in itself

Beautifully landscaped grounds. Nice and quiet. Plenty of shade on a hot sunny day. Several benches along the paths to allow you to rest or picnic. Staff was very friendly and polite. I would suggest the overnight Safari Night stay for familys and small groups. We had a group of 30 cub scouts and they loved it. The scouts saw first hand the amount of attention and time the workers give to each animals. Ive gone to zoos and have seen tiny, unhappy animals. You can definitely tell these animals are well cared for. Some of them are huge! What this zoo lacks in size, it definitely makes up for with the thought and attention that went into landscaping and those extra things that have been added to make each visitors experience special. If youre looking for a nice leisurely stroll at the zoo without thousands of people this is your place. Not to mention that all the facilities are CLEAN. No filthy restrooms at this zoo. We will definely be returning next time were in Baton Rouge!

Wasnt the best zoo honestly the poor animals they did look so sad and depressed, yeah the price wasnt bad but majority of the animals we paid to see wasnt even there. Ive seen more birds than anything and Ive couldve stayed at the house with bird feed and seen just as many birds as I did there then again its a get away from the house. The few animals they did have their habitat look like it went up for foreclosure no upkeep for these animals, seen birds pecking at their bowls with no food smh honestly Ive rather drive the 1 1/2 to new Orleans then come here those animals deserve to be in a better place

And the train is ALWAYS a hit with my little one!Boo at the Zoo is a must for our family every year! Very family friendly and fun for the kids and adults. My family and I love the Baton Rouge zoo. The staff is very lovable and enthusiastic about teaching visitors about the animals and giving any extra details asked. My children adore it. It has a soothing peaceful envinronment. Today we learned they have a petting section in the kids zoo area where you can brush goats and feel the fleece of a real sheep. We got a good giggle at a goat that snatched my 9 year old sons map from his back pocket and ran away with it and chewed it up. We were delighted to be there for the running of the ducks at one hour before closing time. We got to feed them after and even got to pet one of the ducks. The staff member who lead us was so sweet and knowledgable and was delighted to have a lengthy conversation answering my 5 years inqiries about the rabbits and the ducks. She showed us the eggs the collect and explained what bird they came from and let the children hold them. We had a great day at the zoo today and even enjoyed a nice picnic by the Giraffe exhibit where my children got to see the new baby Giraffe. Go to the Zoo! You wont be disappointed.

Long story short, I got confused during the purchase process and thought there was an overcharge. I called the membership number, didnt get an answer, but not even 5 minutes later they called me back. I explained the situation and Ms Julia Black resolved the issue with no hesitation. Really love supporting our local zoo but wish they could get more resources and that they would have moved so more people in Baton Rouge could support them. However- watch out for their “deals” on memberships. We visited and we were told anything we bought in the store would go towards the purchase of a membership. Long story short, we only planned on spending $20 in the store but once we learned about the special we ended up spending like $80. because if I can get $80 of stuffed animals and a free year long pass- I’m gonna live my life to the fullest and take advantage. They sent us to the front where the membership tent was closing up. I apologized to the girl running it and brought her the receipt and explained we needed to redeem our membership. She signed up is and gave us our temporary pass and we left. 20 minutes later down the road the girl that signed us up called me after getting my cellphone number off our membership form telling me she cancelled my membership and we wouldn’t be getting the pass. I called the office and her back - leaving both messages- and never heard back from anyone. So I haven’t been back since. We get Audubon passes now since it’s a bit of a better deal but I’m kinda wish things worked out better and they had better communication so I wouldn’t have to drive an hour out to the zoo. Their playground inside the park is really impressive and will entertain kids for hours.

My nephews came in town and we had a good time at the Baton Rouge zoo. There were not many people there and the zoo is pretty well shaded with all the trees around the exhibits! One of my nephews absolutely LOVES trains so the $2 per person to ride the train around the whole park was well worth the money. You don’t see many of the exhibits while riding the train but it’s a good sit down break with a breeze. Some of the exhibits for the animals are a little sad - the jaguar for instance kept pacing and mentally looked unstable, the hippo had a really small exhibit with no grass and little water...but they’re spending money to build new exhibits for birds. We also enjoyed the petting zoo/barn with a playground in front of it - the boys loved playing on that which seemed to finally zap the rest of their energy before we left the park.
