Reading Cinemas is a good theater, probably the busiest theater in Bakersfield. The price of a GA ticket is fairly priced, but if you can try to make a matinee showing to save some money. Snacks are expensive, I feel like I am dumping my wallet for a small popcorn, so if your hungry try to eat before. Now for the rooms, they were comfy and and had some space, but if you go see a busy movie expect to move your legs if someone has to pass as their is not a lot of in aisle walking space. One of things I really dont like is having to pick a seat before even going into a theater, maybe some might like this but its not for me. Staff is always courteous and friendly.

If your like me and have a foot fetish youll love this movie theater because it smells like sweaty feet.

I really like this theater. The concession can be long so allow some extra time if you want to grab snacks. The theater is clean and chairs are non reclining but still comfy.

They only block the seats from side to side of your group, not in front or behind you. Not very effective social distancing.

Havent been there in a long time but its changed for the better, as in better snack selection. Staff was great. Place wasnt as clean when we walked in to view the movie

The IMAX theater is really nice. It has great picture quality and sound. Not sure about any of the other theaters as we only visit for the IMAX.

The seats in this place are truly horrible, unless you happen to be seeing an IMAX movie. It’s desperately in need of a remodel. It’s out of date and worn out, and I’m pretty sure those seats are original to the theater. The staff is nice and the snacks are good, and not terribly overpriced. But the seats make it my least favorite theater in town, I’ve seen maybe two movies here in the last year, and I see up to three movies a week.

Hot dogs were cold waited 23 minutes and didnt even get my soda! But the movie was good

Saw Dr. Doolittle and it was pretty empty. One of the worker reminded me of Jack Black. I think its time they upgraded the seating and not to turn on the AC full blast.

It was one of the smaller theatres. Kids were a bit disappointed.

Awesome place to watch movies with your friends, family, siblings, or other. I recommend going at certain times they advertise because of price difference. Movies usually start 10min after they say the movie will start so yup.

Reading Cinemas Valley Plaza has always been a must go theater when I visit relatives in the Bakersfield, Taft area. They always have the latest blockbuster movies in regular or I Max. Friendly employees, good popcorn. What else can a movie goer want? Warning! It gets busy sometimes. A great movie experience!!!!

I went to wacth Bumbo with a close freind and her two daughters. The theatre was amazing the restroom were clean the service was great. What disappointed me about the movie and just about every movie i wacth is that all movies more and more are dark in message in and throughout the movies no sense of joy and peace tranquility. Even this kid movie was dark. Im coming to learn more and more that satan and his demons are behind disney and just about every Hollywood production. Be careful about what we wacth and what we allow our children to wacth. Marvel heroes fantacy movies and cartoons are decieving and can affect our grasp of reality. We only have one hero and thats not superman but the man Christ Jesus who came to save all on the cross. I will pray about this most important issue God bless all amen

The Good: Nice workers, Decent pitcure and sound quality, good concessions and cheaper admission prices....The Bad: Horrible seats the worst in Bakersfield, horrible patronage- The few times Ive gone parents bring babies or young kids and let them run around and play in the isles, play on cell phones and even let them watch movies/tv on cell phones at high volume while the film is playing.... Not necessarily the theaters fault, I guess thats what you get with ther lower admission prices. You get what you pay for!!

Well me and my husband have been coming there not long. It seems to be a great place to relax and enjoy the movie and Munchie. The last three times its been great the workers are so nice and its clean. For those who play games there its not for that its a place to watch a movie. The price is right. We like the seats. The only thing I think the drinks and popcorn and candy is a little high. Too bad they dont have drive ins anymore that was nice and lots of fun. But times have changed so what to do. Just enjoy what we have. I will say popcorn and fries are the best. ( Chicken is awesome ) so over all nice place to relax. We will come back

The theater is nice they keep it pretty clean its frustrating to deal with the staff I ordered my items was told 20 minutes later that the item is not available then waited another 20 minutes I arrived 45 minutes early to walk into my movie 5 minutes before it started this has happened several times they are so worried about collecting the money from the next customer they do not finish with existing customers

Only bright spot was the ticket counter polite and speedy. The theater smelled old and the seats hurt to sit on for the duration of the movie. Other patrons were aloud to talk through the whole movie and at least eight of them were drinking alcohol that they had snuck in. One patron asked them to be quiet and the drunk tried to start a fight with him inside the theater in front of my kids. With definitely think twice before coming back to this theater to watch a movie.

Be a great theater if it had lounge seats. They offer good food with no swing out tables to eat it! No thought behind this.

The prices for a movie are reasonable, theatres are clean and the choices of food are great!

Unfortunately this theater is in the worst shape of those available in town, definitely due for a remodel. Seats are extremely uncomfortable and broken down. Made it difficult to enjoy the movie. Customer service is the only reason I gave more than 1 star. Employees were very kind and professional

Good place to take kids at the mall but seat are not modern as other places.

For the most part good but at 730 pm they were out of 2 of 3 food otems we tried to order. Thats not so good on a weekend night.

Good popcorn, nice people/animals, and cool seats. I made a mouse friend in the bathroom and he told me hes been waiting for Half Life the movie to come out for 20 years now, but is still determined to get the first seats. I pitied him and he now lives in my basement. There is a picture of him below! Anyways they have such amazing seats that even come with their own annoying 5 year old child who should be in the crying room!!! My mouse friends family is still there, so please stop by the womans restroom and say hello. Im giving the cinema a 10/10 would watch again.

This place is huge! Went to a Friday afternoon matinee. Plenty of room, no waiting at concession, or bathrooms. Lots of great, comfortable seats. Family frendly.

The movie we saw was great, but by the time we left the theater I felt uneasy. There was a lot of activity outside with persons looking like they were gang members. I would suggest a day movie (before dark time). This isnt the first time I felt unsafe coming out of any of the Valley Plaza stores or movies.

The place is extremely dated compared to other theaters in town. Also, if you ask for a water cup, they give you like a little mouth wash size cup, forcing you to buy a drink. Really needs some renovations.

Pretty common theatre, sometimes you get noisy people and sometimes you dont. Prices are pretty expensive for food but on Fridays they have a special. Location is near the mall so thats a plus if your waiting for a movie to start.

Yaasss this place is the BEST for DATES or with FRIENDS and FAMILY !!! They are so friendly and inside the seating area it is clean and comfortable!! I recommend that you guys come on down because youll love and enjoy it !

The theater was comfortable. The popcorn wasnt fresh. I dont know if it was cause we were at the early show but it was stale.

The kids that were working here were friendly and helpful. The theater we were in was one of the smaller and older ones and really reminded me that there are better places in town now. The seats were old and stained and not super comfortable.

Due to going on a Tuesday morning and school is in session we enjoyed a private showing of the lion king.

I still like the theater, the changes that were made over time are good changes! I dont really go to the theater anymore bcuz its to dang expensive!! Especially when a its a fam of 5 or more..

My wife and I go here for date nights every other Friday or so due to the Student ID (High school or College) 50% discount they offer that comes with Free Popcorn. Additionally, she loves collecting the special cups and theyre worth the $7.25 price tag because theyre unlimited refills of either Drink or Slushy. Other than how much they seem to burn popcorn there, you can smell it when you walk in the doors, its always been a great experience. I personally wouldnt eat real food there because I like to sit down and enjoy my meal, but they do offer a lot more than they used to. Overall, I would recommend.

The staff is great and its a nice cinema, but the seats are so uncomfortable. Overall experience was good.

Make sure you ask for fresh popcorn otherwise theyll have you the old stuff.

I really wish they would have a 13 year old and older hour like every other showing. does not allow children under 13 in. We went to see spider man and the whole time children running around and crying it was awful I did not want to miss any part of the movie so I did not complain. THE WORST PART WAS ALL THE CHILDREN THAT WERE CREATING THE ISSUES GOT IN FREE! I watch movies every weekend at this establishment. I think what needs to happen is the ushers need to make more frequent round to calm that situation down. They will not turn on the lights in a life and death situation but they allow this nonsense come on.

I like this theatre it may not have the most modern seats but at least I was able to go and see Endgame the same day after I went to other theaters and they where sold out.

Loved the IMAX theater, surround sound is awsome and very comfortable seats that hugs you.

I only really go here for the IMAX screen. Its got great picture and an awesome sound system. The handful of action movies Ive watched in the IMAX room were so loud, it felt like every seat was a D-Box seat.

This is the only place I go to watch movies. Tickets prices are reasonable and great concession food. Love coming here at any time of the day.

Its pretty nice. It COULD USE A DEEP CHAIR CLEANING. especially the prices we pay to watch a 90 minute movie , with all the money we spend. I think that they (the) owners should steam CLEAN the seats that we sit on. Also the kids sit on...but overall its ok there.

It Was ok.. They need to keep up more with cleaning.. I was worried do to one of the workers catching the popcorn on fire and smoking up the place . After seeing what waa going i was left uneasy with having to worry about the place going up in flames while we where watching the movie. I understand it was an accident. But still they need to be more careful..

I always come to this theater, when good movies are showing, and Ive never had an issue with the service. The staff is friendly and helpful. But there are some people who go to this theater and act like a bunch of pigs, like, clean after yourself. You dont have to do math to pick up your own garbage, oinkers.

Friendly staff very nice! Seats could be better very outdated and old. Enjoyed the movie with my children. Picked a movie that my kids couldnt get into and they let me change it to a better movie and did so with a very pleasing attitude.

Tickets were fairly priced. It had nice seating. And I LOVED the cutouts of movies that you could take pictures with! The food was pricey but that is to be expected.

This wouldnt be my first choice for going to the movies, but they do have an IMAX theatre. The area itself is sometimes a bit difficult for parking. The theatre has your standard fare at the concession stand. They have a very convenient ticket kiosk in the lobby so you dont have to stand outside in line. There are other theaters in town with cleaner facilities and friendlier staff. Sometimes it appears that the concession stand employees dont listen carefully or pay attention. I would recommend only for IMAX.

Very dirty... The seats arent made for small children .. When my 7 year old would sit back the chair would automatically fold him up Like a taco

The mall is sadly falling into the hole that the East Hills mall fell into. At last count there were four stores that have closed. I ambulate by way of a power wheelchair. Every time I travel from one end to the other, a good deal of the floor tiles I roll over will move or make a sound. I am disappointed with the quality of the stores that have replaced good top of the list stores. The mall is great for womens and teens needs. Men who need professional attire have few to no options. Go to the mall on a Sunday if you want a swap meet environment. So whomever is in charge of its everything, he or she is doing a crappy job.

Why do they not offer buckets of popcorn? Its like theyre told to give you the least amount of popcorn possible. I have never spent so much on such a little amount of popcorn. Its the popcorn that brings me to the movies, and its the food and the popcorn prices at Reading that will make sure I go to Maya or Edwards instead. One hot dog at reading costs 4$ minimum?? 20 hot dogs for that price. Forget this place, go elsewhere.

This was my first visit and I was not impressed. The movie, visual and sound, were fine, seats comfortable as most theaters are. Half the fun for me at a theater, is the food. I ordered a chicken sandwich and Im not sure what I was eating. It did not taste like chicken. It was pretty flavorless in fact. I also ordered a small popcorn and was extremely disappointed in that too. Very bland flavor. Ill pick a different theater next time.
