This place is Awesome, Rock-n-Roll music and lots of shots

It’s a great restaurant. There’s a bar next to it so you can grab a drink before your meal. When I went, there was a long line but it was very much worth it.

Great atmosphere and awesome staff! Inside, and outside area, Music for dancing or chill with a drink of your choice.

Weekend dancing is always fun here, though the dance floor is tiny and packs up quickly.

Small & intimate...perfect for the more introverted of New Years crowd!

This spot is a little slice of dive bar heaven. I like The Eastern for a cycling stop on a weekend afternoon. The bar staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and they often have fun, quirky events. What The Eastern lacks in space, it makes up for in character. Truly one of the last east side gems reminiscent of Austin pre-tech bro boom.

The grungiest spot on the East side. Dance floor like your living room but with crappier furniture. Might be a leak in the roof over the bar... pretty sure. Nothing-special outdoor seating area and a cool little side bar. Best thing about this place is the unisex bathroom so when your friends walk out of it you can pass them as you go in muttering They just let anyone go in there I guess...

The Eastern is a great hole in the wall. Diverse dj plays something for everyone. Cheap drinks and boilermakers, plus there is a large patio.

Awesome place with great drink prices. I attended a crawfish boil cooked by Blake with the help of his girlfriend and some amigos. I woyld have given them 5 stars if bathrooms were clean, it like you dont want to touch anything while in.

Awesome dance bar. One of the best bars in Austin, Texas (not just East Austin). Great dance room but also awesome patio space. Bathroom is pretty bad but hey what do you expect.

Its a classic dive bar on the East Side. Same bartender for years. Hes great.The bar used to be a little better - back in the FFF days.

Great place for a dance party. Good place to end up after a night of drinking. Also much less chaotic than 6th street.

Best thing about this place is the cheap drinks. Its a great place on east sixth for dancing. My tip is to go to the hip-hop night on Friday early, start your night there. Also, theres usually a second bar set up near the dance area, go there. Theres never a long line. It gets too crowded for my taste as the night wears on, especially the line for the bathroom, ugh.

Definitely an East Austin spot where all the cool kids hang out. I liked the music selection here-- good mix of alternative, hip hop, and throwback jams. The drinks were average-- nothing special, but the atmosphere is great for striking up a conversation with someone you dont know. Recommended if you are planning an East Austin bar crawl!

If you are into hip hop and a real lover of music I recommend going to the Easten on a Saturday night. There is a great mixture of people in the crowd and the DJ is always on point.

It maybe a little hipster but I love the feel. The hip hop nights on Friday are a great change on the weekends! Great cheap drinks as well. The 40 and a movie nights are a great pick me up during the work week too.

My fave East Austin dive. Started going there when I lived at the Vegas (evev before hotel was a hipster hangout). Still drop into The Eastern when passing through eastside. Friendly staff. Good mixed crowd. Mathew, the owner, is awesome. Great prices and not stingy with the alcohol. Inside, outside and mixed area with comphy sofas and large screen. Occasional unique Austintatios events. Centrally located at of East Austin near Plaza Satillo (yet, they still dont gouge). Please tip well. They deserve it!

As a hip hop head I feel the need to swing by The Eastern if Im out on a Friday night. It quickly becomes nut-to-butt in this little joint but the atmosphere and music out way the sense of claustrophobia. Hit this spot up on a Fuc* Me Friday.

The Eastern is another East Sixth dive bar, this time in the former home of a large Tejano nightclub. With an outdoor patio area, media room, and interior bar area, theres a little something for everyone. The bar area itself is very small, but the bartender was friendly, and seemed to have a goor rapport with the regulars. Another group had cordoned off much of the patio for a birthday party, so it seems like theyre flexible about large groups as well. Overall, a decent place for a cheap drink.

Very divey bar. Great bartender. Great patrons. Great music (ala the great bar tender). The bathroom has a smell that is special something: something I dont want to smell again.

They have awesome djs here on fridays. And the outside patio is really cool and pretty spacious. As for inside, its a little cramped but i love the crowd and the atmosphere(and the bartenders)

This place is like the mobile home bar youve always dreamed of owning. Right behind Ciscos and next to White Horse, its not on 6th directly which may be one reason why it wasnt overly packed with people. In line with other east side bar prices. Also had gladiator movies playing outside, which might be a bonus for you.

Fun dive

Im fairly certain that 100% of my visits to The Eastern occurred because The White Horse had a cover fee I was unwilling to fork over. While it certainly has cheap drinks, your experience at this bar very likely will depend on whos DJ-ing that night. Ive heard some absolutely god awful music being played here. Also, the location of the inside bar is super awkward over in the corner and requires some effort to actually reach when busy.
