Free parking in the back, can’t believe it coz’ usually parking on downtown is an issue. There was a super knowable girl in charge the museum that answer all my questions. Museum was clean and open on Sundays. The history of the house is very interesting and well preserved, they even illustrate the kind of food they used to have.

Enjoyed a brief visit here. You just feel the history and I loved having the chance to look further than the exterior. It made my day to go into a building of that age of 1885 and grandeur, what an experience.

Very good example of how life was back in 19th Century Capitol city of Texas. The focus is on local history and families that owned this old house. Friendly staff and food truck parked at the lot and outdoor seating in the beautiful garden made our day. There seems to be a cafe in the back yard soon. I would say, check out this gem in the city.

Beautiful historic home, where Jennifer Cumberbatch has opened a new door to the history of Austin. Ive learned a great deal about Austins development while being well entertained. Ive also met some very interesting people while visiting this venue. Always enjoyable.

Wonderful central Austin museum (older home) to visit. A good way to see how an Austin inner city, wealthy family, lived back in the day, as Austin was growing in the surrounding area.

One of the oldest houses in Austin, turned in to a museum. Great place for weddings and events. Interior pieces dating from the 1850s including Sevres porcelain.

This was the perfect place for our sons Rehearsal Dinner! The venue is beautiful, educational and spacious. We were able to rehearse outside, (huge yard, and many different approaches to choose from)and then hold the dinner for 40 inside their amazing museum. Our Event Manager, Andrea Perry, was so wonderful to work with; she is organized, thinks on her feet, (we had a last minute problem with the bartender we hired to cater - she handled it) and was my favorite vendor to work with out of all the companies hired to help with the wedding. Go here! Its affordable, is for a great non-profit cause, and beautiful.

This museum is small, but packed with interesting history. Within its walls, it gives a visitor a glimpse of early life in Austin through the stories and possessions of the houses various owners. Though the house itself is well maintained and the exhibits thoughtfully constructed, a lack of explanatory material pertaining to individual items limited my enjoyment of my visit here. Also, the gift shop is EXTREMELY overpriced.

Caught it on a free day and Im glad we did as it was worth visiting at that price. Parking is limited so going on Sunday saved some walking. While its old, built in 1850, its history isnt special, nor are the furnishings which are a cobbled together collection of antiques which for the most part are independent of prior occupants. So if you love old houses and antiques for their own sake this is a worthwhile visit, otherwise there are better places to spend your time.

A great place to visit, it provides a glimpse of Austins wonderful history. So many structures are being forgotten and left to ruin.At various times of month there could be a special presentation. This month was quilts of the past and folk painting. Both great to see.Can make an arrangement for a personal tour through history.

We are new to Austin so I decide to do a little sightseeing. This is one of the oldest houses in Austin and it is pretty cool. They give 2 hours on the weekend for a small donation. This house is 1 of the old 4² style houses with 2 rooms in front and 2 rooms and back and also has a second floor. I would recommend people go to see it if they want to get out and see something different

An interesting place to poke around in. Note: the parking lot is behind the building, but they expect you to enter the front. We tried several times and finally found the bell at the back door. The staff was very friendly and answered all our questions.

The house is nice enough, and somewhat interesting. And Its not terribly pricey---a very reasonable $4 for the senior price, which I qualified for by a matter of days. But is not set in all the same historic decade, so you might be misled if youre not paying attention. And theres ALOT of reading if you want to know what youre looking at. Also, we were looking forward to the historic quilts that were a special display. There were 5---yes 5 whole quilts in the display. Granted, they were dated, but there wasnt additional information nor a back story. Maybe they dont know....anyway, its a bit of a disappointment.

Amazing tour! The house is full of colorful history and interesting architectural details. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and went through what Austin was like at the time the house was built, the various homeowners and condition of the house during their ownership, as well as all the interesting architectural details of the home. I definitely recommend this tour!

Theyve done a great job of preserving a time period in this house. You are able to get a very close look at household items from a century ago and read about the goings on at the times. The staff are really nice as well.
