A shining gem in the Atlanta theater scene for any serious cinema fan. Youre not going to find the latest record-setting blockbusters or the rowdy crowds that accompany them at this serene monument to film, thankfully. Theres a time and place for both, and plenty of great theaters in town for them. But if you want to crack open a cold beer and experience the world film festival circuits best offerings, in the setting they were crafted for, Tara is your theater.

Best theatre and only theatre that attracts well-behaved viewers. People who attend this theatre are serious movie watchers and stay quiet while watching. It is a small venue, easy to navigate and shows the more offbeat, artsy films. It is the one remaining old theater from the days when going to see a show was an event, not a living room party. I will always love this theatre.

Nice little movie theater with first come first served seating. When I went it was pretty empty so I got a really good seat. The seats aren’t nearly as comfortable as newer theaters though, so that’s a big negative especially since you’re paying the same price as a newer theater.

The theater is clean and the staff we encountered were polite and friendly. My issue is this is an old theater with old style seating. It has not been updated so the screens are smaller and the sound is not as good. The ticket prices are the same as the newer theaters in the area which is kind of crazy. I think the tickets should be less since it’s an older theater.

Nice and clean. Great staff. Got there 10 mins before show time, and there were at least 15 minutes, of a variety, of freakin ads. If I had known, I would have brought a pillow and a blanket till the show started. Just keep screen blank with low soft music till the show begins. Otherwise make my ticket cheaper. uggghhh

The Tara is a long time Atlanta cinema screening films popular with general audiences as well as those that appeal to film buffs. The seats are especially comfortable and the popcorn is passable. Parking is free and plentiful. The theater is easily visible and accessible from the street. Ticket prices (at the time Im writing this) are on the high end compared to other area movie theaters.

I have always loved this movie theater! They always have a great selection of features: foreign movies, off beat independent film makers, etc...The Tara still has the wonderful feel of old time movie theaters. Watching movies at home on Netflix is a lame alternative to the experience of watching a movie on a giant screen surrounded by the darkness and quiet of a real theater!

I bought a pretzel at the consession stand and watched as the same individual who sold me my tickets and handled money, touched my food with unwashed hands. I asked him if he would mind getting me a different pretzel since he didnt wear gloves and he proceeded to put the frozen pretzel he had just touched back into the freezer. He said we dont wear gloves here and then had to call the manager just to locate the gloves since he didnt know where it was. I recieved a pretzlheated in a mircowave, no salt (except thatel which the attendent gave me via stink eye), and no sauce in the end. 0/10 unsanitary/would not recomend

Nice small multi screen theatre. Attracts a diverse crowd of Indie lovers. Nice cafe in the large well lighted lobby. Really good latte. Saw the Miles Davis biopic with Black. Fun to spend time with him, a Davis like look and character. He misbehaved a little but still...I liked the film particularly Don Cheadle in it as Miles and the dark beauty who played his wife. A complex man was Miles. Not a walk in the park but well worth the effort to know him. Were his abuses drug related or something more sinister? In so many ways he was a stand up guy in a time when all Black men were routinely disregarded, disrespected, brutalized and dismissed regardless of their status high or low. He stood tall and took his licks but not graciously. For the woman who wrote Mad At Miles, Im mad at you.

Old school vibe; small theater that is super clean with welcoming staff. Love the selection of films they show, particularly the indie/critically acclaimed line-up. This Regal accepts Movie Pass and the Regal rewards card. If you dont have the Regal Crown Club Rewards, get it (free & you get to redeem points for items at concession or online). Side note - small detail: seats in some (maybe all) do not recline, although they are new and well cushioned.

Great, well - established theater operated by people who really care about movies. Ive been going there for over 45 years and am usually there at least once a week. False advertising on website, wasn’t actually playing the movie we pre-ordered. We get there and can’t see the movie and we were told to dispute with our bank to get the charges refunded. I like this theater for the films it offers that differ from those at other theaters. They dont play the typical blockbusters, but independent style films instead. The popcorn used to be really good here, but lately it has the texture of packing peanuts. At least one of the screening rooms has a horrible odor of musty mold. This was my first visit to a Regal theatre. The daytime matinee was almost $14. Its not a modern theatre with an expansive selection of concessions. But my star rating is not centered around those elements. The customers I encountered seemed if they had never encountered a single person, a person of color...I am not quite sure what the deal was. Yet during the movie they talked and had their feet on the seats.IT WAS A STRANGE ATMOSPHERE.

Just visiting in the area for Christmas and really wanted to see La La Land. This was the only theater around that was showing it and I am glad that I took the time to find my way to their doorstep. It does have an old-fashioned theater field with a little ticket window. There were small touches like an Actresses and Actors signs above their respective restrooms that made it feel really intimate and not a typical big box just-gimme-your-money-be-quiet-watch-the-movie-and-get-out type experience. The seats werent the over-kill deluxe recliners some other movie theaters seem to be overcompensating with, but just simple comfortable cushion seats which just added to its appeal.I wish I had a movie theater where I lived with as much character!

UA Tara is reminiscent of the theaters of old......cozy, only a couple screens, dark, but still full of life. The seating area in the front is a nice touch while looking at the vintage pictures all around the lobby. It can get a little toasty if there are a lot of people but its typically not THAT crowded on a regular day. If you are looking for more mainstream movies, you probably wont find them here but if you like a good indie, vintage, etc type then this is the place. Great date night spot also!

So many of the best movies Ive ever seen I saw here. Movies that you wont see elsewhere. And I would also like to give the people that come here to see movies like me 5 stars as well. The best crowd consistently, friendly, interesting to talk to, well mannered, and never exhibiting the cringe worthy behavior thats become standard at the other theaters. Crying babies, using cell phones, talking instead of whispering, always leaving a negative mark on your movie experience. Never at Tara.

We all have flat panels and streaming services at home. A theatre is only about the experience, right?Well... here are the highlights: stale popcorn, no butter when asked to have some, then waaaaay too much. The wine is $11 for less than a regular pouring, the beer is poured by kids from a respectable bottle into a plastic cup, for each drink youre carded even after getting a 3 drink max wristband.Theres a security guard at the door who I witnessed enforcing policy of checking bags and keeping the peace because of middle aged angry customers who like their privacy rights. Not exactly the escape I look for.

While we prefer Midtown Arts for most of our art cinema experiences, Tara often plays flicks you wont see on any other screen in Atlanta -- and plays them ... and plays them ... and plays them. Seriously, dont rush to see anything here; itll be on one of their four screens for weeks and weeks. The staff is fairly friendly (Jeff, who takes tickets at the door, is a favorite of ours), and the seats are more comfortable than in most theaters. You can still get a pretty good big screen experience here if youre in the right theater, but at least one of the screens, created by subdividing what used to be one screen, is cramped and the auditorium is a bit shallow. If somethings playing you want to see, dont hesitate to go here.
